By Released to The Madera TribuneAfter nearly 20 years of dedication to saving lives in Madera County, Sgt. Chuck Bump is retiring. He leaves behind a legacy not easily matched.
When you realize all that he has managed to accomplish, you'll understand why Sgt. Bump will be sorely missed," Sheriff John Anderson said.

Born and raised in Chowchilla, Bump is affectionately referred to as the city's native son. He was recruited from the Chowchilla Police Department and hired in November 1989. It didn't take him long to adapt to his new role and go after units that piqued his interest like SWAT, the Dive Team and the Search and Rescue squad.

Bump spent the first nine years patrolling the valley floor. Then he was promoted to sergeant and quickly moved up to the Mountain Division in July 1998. In February 2003, he was in charge of the dive team, took over boat patrol and assumed search and rescue operations.
