Tia Thomas of Coarsegold lasts into the finals but misspelled "zacate" last night in the 2007 National Spelling Bee.

Tia did a great job. I was really pulling for her. She should be proud to make it so far.

No matter how you spell it, a Coarsegold 12-year-old's fourth trip to the National Spelling Bee can only be described as a big success.

Thomas, who attends Mountain Home Charter School in Oakhurst, won the eastern Madera county (http://www.topix.com/county/madera-ca) regional spelling bee in March, which enabled her to advance to the nationals, taking place May 30 and 31st. via KSEE-TV Fresno (http://www.ksee24.com/Story.aspx?type=ln&NStoryID=6875)
