CANBERRA, Australia (Reuters) - A contestant on the Australian Big Brother television show will not be informed of her father's death while she's taking part in the program.
Raymond Cornell, 53, was buried May 21 following his death from cancer. But Cornell asked that his daughter Emma, 24, not be told of his death until she left the sealed Big Brother house either by eviction or eventual victory.
Like its foreign counterparts, Australia's Big Brother TV game show makes a point of isolating its stars from the outside world.
24 year old Emma Cornell has been in the Big Brother house since the show started a month ago.
At the request of her family, the producers have decided not to tell Emma until either she wins the show, or she's evicted under the rules of the competition.
Critics say the decision is wrong, and that decency demands Emma be told as soon as possible.
But the producers say they won't reconsider.
