Ok, I get to go to Monterey for 2 nights next week. We get to stay at the Monterey Bay Plaza & Spa. Going to do wine tasting during the day. Who knows of good restaurants for dinner near there? Any wineries I must not miss?

We went to Bubba Gump's in Lahaina. Wasn't too impressed. It may have been an of day for them, though. I'm looking for a steak/seafood place with a view and nice wine list.

Speaking of pubs, there is a British pub on Alvarado Street in Monterey, The Mucky Duck, that has half their wine list comprised of premium Monterey County wines. I think it's been mentioned here several times before. (?)

People who like the Monterey Bay area and wine should sometime toodle on down the River Road Wine Trail. It winds around from Highway 68 down to the western edge of Salinas Valley. There should be around 10 winery tasting rooms along that corridor by now, with more on the way.

My favorite Fisherman's Wharf restaurant was "Wharfside," where I would order a great, saffron-accented seafood bouillabaisse. But it is now a new place called Isabella's. Haven't tried it yet .. I am still pouting.

Lately I have been haunting Old Fisherman's Grotto on the wharf, but last time I had dinner at the coast it was at The Fish Hopper in Cannery Row. Had some great calamari and clam chowder. They feature steaks and locally-caught seafood.

Yummmmmmmmmm
