I love Round Table Pizza, I have always had good experineces there, I'ts amazing to me that the kids who work there (quite a few of them) Look like hoodlems, but are very nice and do their job well. That gives me hope for my own kids. hehe. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/pleased.gif It also shows you can't judge a book by its cover!
Anyhow, The only thing I would change is to have them deliver. I bet they'd get at least twice the business.

I often go to Round Table Pizza in Oakhurst and have yet to run into any problems with the quality of food or service. In fact, the food and service is always great! In my opinion, Round Table Pizza has the best pizza in the area and I will encourage all of my friends and family to support them.

My favorite Round Table pizza is the Garden Pesto one with a thick pan crust. I order it with extra chopped green onions on the top. Yummmmmmm

Oh, lets be fair. Hoodlums? In whose book? The younger generations always looks like hoodlums but the fact is they wouldn't be employed there if they were. Especially in Oakhurst! Every generation has their own "look".

No we are not going out of business but we are changing owners. It is in escrow right now and should be done by October. The new owner has 3 other RTPs and seems to do a great job with them. His is going to get rid of a few items like breadsticks, calzones, and giant pizzas. I'm not sure about the beers he only has 4 on tap in his other location.
We have been planning to sell after our middle son graduated high school which he did this year. We opened a Curves 2 years ago and are planning to move to run that business. We have been running RTP now for 10 years and are ready for a change.

Thumbs up to the new owners!
We took Max and a few friends last Friday night for his b-day. It was the first night under the new owners and the food and service were great. I was bummed to hear there will be no more pesto pizzas, as they are my favorite, but there still are the good breadsticks with the parmesan and garlic. The only 'fumble' we encountered was the boys were sitting at the booth next to us adults and two of the employees had come over quite a few times to see how we were doing, see if we needed anything (good job on that ;0) but another employee I guess, assumed the table had been vacated (boys were playing video games)
and cleared it. 5 peices of pizza, 4 drinks and 3/4 an order of breadsticks. I did mention it to the owner/partner/manager and they apologized and gave us new plastic cups but no offer to replace the missing food, though...
The food was great and besides what I feel was a bit of an error in customer service, the employees were great and on top of things.

I ate in there Friday night they brought back some of the good beers. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif But they come around and bug you so much they are going over board on being nice. By the time I got my pizza that was wrong crust and had no sauce I just wanted to get out of there. Beside it took about 50 mins to get our pizza. I never waited more than 20 mins before the change of hands and it was always great. I would say thumbs down to new owner. They are tring to hard on customer service and not on the food they serve.

Tried out the "new" RTP a few weeks back.
Not good. Zero sauce and the cheese tasted different/unusual.
Every other RTP franchise's food tastes the same... consistantly. What's up with Oakhurst?
Anyone else have the same experience lately?
I figure I'll give them one more chance in the future.

We went to Round Table last month for one of my son's birthdays...
Had some issues with service and efficiency which hopefully for their sake was incidental and not a regular occurrence.
One issue I'm not so forgiving about is their all-you-can eat salad bar service standards. The salad bar looked fresh enough, so I do not doubt the safety of the food preparation with regard to it's appearance and quality. However, it is their policy that a customer recieves one salad bowl for all-you-can eat salad...meaning a customer may bring an already eaten from bowl back to the salad bar to refill. This is a very unsanitary practice...when customers have free rein with the serving tongs and utensils. They may be touching their individually contaminated bowls with the utensils and then placing them back in the containers for others to use. There are nationally recognized safe food-handling standards and rules in place for public salad bars and buffets..."all-you-can-eat" requires that a customer acquire a new dish each time they revisit the self-serve buffet or bar.
I think RTP owners and management should check into Servsafe http://www.safefoodusa.org/servsafe.htm.
Not just RTP, but all restaurants should educate themselves on safe food handling and service practices and train their employees accordingly. People get sick from all-you-can-eat buffets because of unsanitary practices like this.

Very good point. I also wondered the same thing about that. Also salt & pepper shakers and such, I bet they are hardly ever whiped clean before the next patrons use them. Think of the germs on them and dozens of greasy hands that have ben handling them (this goes for any food establishment) I know Todd's has individual salt & pepper in paper packets which is probably a good thing. Also entrance & exit door handles/panels should be wiped down regularly. I am not a gremaphoebe but I like to see an establishment at least trying to do there part. RT for the most part seems to be pretty clean and trying but they should change that procedure of going back with the same bowl to the salad bar.

I am agreed w/ you Newcomer and have other issues on this line of thought...things like how often servers was their hands and the amount of restaurants I have worked in that have no sink (as required by the health dept) in the server stations or a sink very near by with easy access for the server. Those w/out sinks in the stations are also sadly lacking hand sanitizer dispensers. I always carry a small bottle in my apron. Though it does help keep the customers healthy; I also stay healthy and at work.
As a server having to touch glasses, silverware, plates, and napkins with god knows what blown or coughed inside of them is just gross and a virus waiting to happen. The amount of people that blow their noses into cloth napkins instead of going to the restroom or even out side is disgusting. Sharing mucus with the restaurant staff ....YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am wondering if we need a food prep health and safety thread. Or maybe a "things that gross us out" thread?
oakhurstleaf

I don't believe any restaurant can even be open for business unless they have specific sinks with sanitizer and antibacterial soap dispensers accessible to servers and food handlers. I'm sure there are some restaurants that may not have their sanitizer/soap dispensers loaded and have a bar of Dial sittin' there...I could see that. Health Dept., unfortunately, doesn't carry out too many random inspections up here and cite 'em. There's no grade system displayed for the public...unlike in L.A. County and Orange County. Lots more pressure down there to be safe and sanitary which is a good thing...not only does it enforce who's running a high quality operation, but it also boosts consumer confidence in those restaurants that do run a high quality operation.
Anyway...the RTP salad bar is just a hotbed for cross-contamination. If they don't offer or even allow all-you-can-eat patrons to have a new dish for revisits to the buffet, then that is not a buffet you should go to. Contaminated (already eaten food) should NEVER be anywhere near "clean" food.
Think twice before you send a half-eaten steak back because it was too rare or whatever your complaint....it should not be going back in the kitchen to be re-handled. If they do it with your food...they've done it with others. It needs to go right in the trash....and they need to start over FRESH, always. Be sure that is what happens, for your own safety.
Not to sound like a germ phobe...but bare-handed cooks and food handlers is another concern. Do you know how many germs are harboring under fingernails? I don't like the idea of a cook peeling back a slice of cheese with his fingernail...ewww. I guess it's almost a "what you don't know won't hurt you"...but I feel a lot better when I see restaurants following safe and sanitary methods...like wearing disposable gloves when handling food...and finger cots over cuts, not just band-aids.
Can't sterilize the whole restaurant top to bottom...but you do want everything going in your mouth to be as clean as possible. Perhaps this should go in a new thread...I could definately go on and on.

I know that when the Health Dept does their yearly check, they want to see our ServSafe certification. It's an all day class and then a test that must be passed and the cert is good for 3 years I think. I believe it's a requirement that any business that prepares food have the certification by a cook, manager or owner.
I was speaking with the Health Dept guy and it was scary hearing the stories about a couple local restaurants!

Yes, it's a requirement that at least one person owner/operator/manager who literally works the restaurant be Servsafe Certified. So there's no excuse for not knowing safe food handling and service practices...unless they just don't take what they've learned seriously or care.
Todd's gone thru Servsafe Certification a couple times (and is certified)... It was a "requirement" only as recently as 2000. He already is a tad obsessive-compulsive about germs in his own right and has been for years...but the things he learned in class, well, they just reinforced his beliefs! And of course, he passes all his knowledge onto me... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

The new ownership sucks, the pizza is not good and the salad bar has lost half of the toppings, 80% of the beers are gone and a lot of the games. It takes forever to get your pizza the old owners only took 15 to 20 min. most of the time. The new owners take at least 45 min. I was actually told if I didn't want to wait I could go over to Me & Ed's. I bet the new owner doesn't know they are telling customers that. So, now I have to get Round Table from Fresno when I want a good pizza. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/embarassed.gif

I have only eaten at Round Table twice since we sold it. I didn't think the pizza was as good as when I was there. Molly one of my old employees is one of the manager. She is nice and is very competent.
One of my old managers is now a manager at Me & Ed’s, so for my fist time tried Me & Ed’s pizza, it was ok but not that great. We went on a Saturday night so it was pretty busy but I thought it was strange that at 6:30 they closed the salad bar.

Mona VIe Im sorry that our salad bar was closed at 6:30 we have days where we need to deep clean and defrost our major equipment..If that happens again let me know we give you a salad bar on the house..I'm Not sure what you were saying about hiring a manager from round table we only have family fully involved in our buisiness. For instance our manager is our aunt she ran the Los Banos Me-N-Ed's for years and our dough roller is our uncle ..My husband and I are always there..and my daughters and cousins now work there..we just couldn't find people who really cared about our product or to manage our store were pretty picky..the only person we hired from round table was our ovens guy and he's really good..come on in and say hi to Art or myself love the FYI

So. Round Table. Yep. A few months ago I had been ordering Take and Bake for 12 bucks or so every friday. Needed a change from Pizza Factory. I always got the cheese breadsticks too.
Today I decided to order one. No, two. I figured at 12 bucks I should get a couple, maybe make one for lunch/dinner Sunday. So I ordered what I usually got before. It was 35 bucks. The breadsticks? Nope. They don't have them anymore. So I ordered one pizza, no breadsticks. 19 bucks. Ripoff!
The pizza was only ok. When I ask for extra pepperoni at Me and Ed's or Pizza Factory that is what I get. When I ask for sausage I get more than 5 pieces. And I get it delivered to my house, cooked, hot, and in a timely matter. Except for Me and Ed's which refuses to deliver less than a mile away from Goldside (hello?? Me and Eds? You're losing customers! Pizza Factory at least meets people at Neufields if they live farther than that, and deliver up to your door if you live closer than that!! )...anyway, where was I? Oh right, so yeah, forget about RTP. Not going there again.
Ever.
(Unless they get my breadsticks back and make their take and bake the same price and value it was before)

Ha Ha, I love this small town atmosphere. "I had someone who used to work for you but then worked for me and now works with you again". Anyhow, as for pizza I always like Pizza Factory = consistently good, although last week I got a turkey sandwich from RTP and it was excellent. Still need to try Me & Eds. They're probably all good, though. One big plus for Pizza Factory is their entertainment during the summer months - Thursday nite Yosemite Dixieland Jazz! why all the fuss over a pizza? Everyone has different pizza tastes. I prefer thin crust.. RTP and Me n Eds are about the same to me. Both are REAL pizzas. better than those "fast food" pizza chains.

I had the BEST gourmet veggie pizza from Round table today, ordered it for a gathering I was having, along with some other pizza's as well, and the Veggie was a HUGE hit, even with one in particular person who doesn't like Round table...She wil be eating that pizza from RTP from now on~!
