Hello and welcome to our online community! Every August, members of this website plan a camping trip to Mammoth Pools, so we have some members that are very familiar with that area. You can use the search feature above to search for "mammoth pools" and you will find some of our topics that have useful info for you. Also, scroll down to see the "Similar Threads" linked below. I'm sure others will post some helpful info, as well.

Take road 200 east. There will be signs leading you to Mammoth Pools. Roads have alot of curves drive slow and enjoy the views. Thier awesome.

I'm not familiar with the area. Is road 200 off of 41, and is it near Oakhurst or Bass lake turn off?

Road 200 is off of route 41. As you are travelling north on 41... you will come to a passing lane and the sign will post the O'neals turn off. Turn Right and that is 200. You will pass thru O'neals and then by NorthFork before heading up to Mammoth Pools.
OH.. and if you are behind a jeep with an arm hanging out of the back... DON'T tailgate her!!! LOLOL  :)

We most likely will be setting up a topic soon for the 2007 Mammoth Pools camping trip, but it looks like the dates will be on or about August 8th thru Aug. 15th. For those of you who plan, it helps to be able to request some or all of these dates in advance with employers.

You an also get to road 200 from the Bass Lake area. Head toward Northfork.

I've been asked by a few people in the past couple of weeks about the Mammoth Pools camping dates.
I'll be there August 10th thru 15th. I'll be heading up early on the 10th & leaving after breakfast on the 15th so I can get to work by 3.
Some people are talking about going up on the 8th and leaving on 12th, which is cool, too. For those of you who haven't been to one of these trips, a little info...
*We set up in one big group, with a main campfire centered in the middle. People (families, etc) come and go during the week staying as long as or as short as they are able.
*We have day trips to the lake, and if we a have a boat, it makes it so much more fun.
*Families (or individuals) usually pick one night for the family meal. This way we don't have 10 people having to cook, we have one person responsible for bringing that meal, and everyone pitches in to cook (and usually clean up, too..)
*Everyone who comes up after the first group arrives generally brings a few extra bags of ice. We usually have anywhere between 10-15 ice chests lined up, kind of a community kitchen...
*For the most part, animals are left at home, that way we don't have dog fights around the campfire...
This year is gonna be extra fun because the Meteor showers are projected for the early morning hours of the 10th & 11th.

Ill prolly only come for fri and sat nite since I can't bring any dogs. Its hot and I don't want to leave my dogs out in the pen for more than that.....Hopefully I will be off of work august 10 and 11. I would love to bring my Lab... he and Sammy could wreck havoc all over Mammoth Pools. (I promise to leave the everlicking Pitbulls at home... but they will be PISSED!) But alas, Ill be there for one, maybe two nights.

OK now im cornfused
We have had it set for the last 6 months for us to go on the Tue 8/14 thru the Sun 8/19
We have several people that have set this date and have taken off work and we have rearanged Dr apointments for this.
I do think Messy has the same date set to go.
Dodge where did you get the 10th?

The past two years we have gone on whatever weekend the 12/13th falls closest to. I know I would never agree to going on a camping trip that close to school being back in session (Aug 16th & 17th are teacher work days, this calendar has been effective for over a year)and school starts on Monday... Pops & I discussed it a month or so ago, guess we'll see what happens...

I merged the 2 most current Mammoth Pools threads that deal with camping...not that it effects me as I will be camping at Bass Lake all summer anyways...reading all the posts might help settle the date debate.

Read back to page 1 of this thread (thanks for the merge BG, I wouldn't have thought of that) Really don't think posting the yahoo transcripts is appropriate.

Yeah I am not sure what happened I looked at my calender from home and the store and they both say August 14-19,2007 and we schedule Baby Surfy and Baby Pop's Doctors appointments and pellet deliverys are schedule around the trip. We also have approx 15 people that have schedule those days off to go camping. one couple are bringing a 13 man party barge and there are 6 of us bringing quads and of course the Tail Gate BBQ. So there is no way we can change our days.

Yeah, we'll miss y'all, too... it's a bummer that you guys planned your family camping trip so close to the OAF (YAF) dates, thats probably how you got mixed up... Maybe you should write in the 2nd weekend in Aug on your calendar for '08 so theres no confusion next year.. : )
As for me, I plan on hanging out from Friday on & staying up really late on Sat & Sun to view the Meteor Showers, gonna be kinda cool.... should get some great photos... gonna bring that new digital, Sandman?

I'm sorry you guys cant make it the same time we will be there.
:cry::mad::(
We started planing our dates this winter. Messy was here working at the shop and we worked it out so we can have OTHER non OO friends come also. As of now we have over 15 people coming up with us and bringing lots of water and land toys.
I'm sure we showed Dodger it has been written on our 1 year wall planner at the shop for over 6 months for we have some weddings to go to and other family stuff happening around the week before the camping trip.
I did not know that the OO trip was officially on the 2nd weekend? i'm sure we changed the dates last year or maybe it was the year before because of some conflict.
We only go camping once a year so our family trip is the OO trip

I always thought the camping trip was 1 week not 2 or 3 days. The week would start Aug 10,11 Fri or Sat and end the 18, or 19 Sat or Sun. It's only 2 1/2 hours away. I don't mind staying til sunday. Being home by early afternoon to get the kids ready for school on Monday.
Last year and I'm looking at my calender we left on Aug. 8th Monday (I came up on the 9th) and stayed til Aug 13th Sunday.

There are people in your life who've come and gone
They let you down and hurt your pride
You Better put it all behind you; because life goes on
You keep carring' around that anger, it'll eat you up inside
I've been tryin' to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it's about forgiveness

I just wanted to bump this (merged and edited) thread to the top for everyone to remember that Mammoth Pools camping is right around the corner...
The poll above shows the dates that Yosemite Area members will be going. Choose the dates that best works for you.
As far as the dogs thing goes, I'm bringing Kato. I'll keep him tied up near my tent, about 50 feet away from the general camp. When I go to the water for the day I let him run free. I don't see why others can't do the same. Not sure if that's still an issue or not anyways, but just thought I'd mention it in case it was an issue for someone that wants to come along. If you have a dog, just keep it under control. That's required up there by law anyways.

Yes, I imagine everyone would be free to choose if they wanted to bring their own pets & look after them. I may have overstepped in the first post, (re: what to bring) but as usual, I'm always watching out for the kids... but my boys are big enough to know not to play with other peoples pups... (just gotta keep them away from the neighboring campsites teenage girls)
The first year I chose not to bring Elvis because I knew there were gonna be little children around & I can't always trust him around the young'uns... and, and that is a big and, I didn't particularily wanna be watching my dog whilst I was off partying...

Camp with the group or get your own spot
Bring your boat if you have one! Otherwise, bring a raft. ;)
Also, the meteor showers will be at it's peak this weekend!!!
So talk to your friends and family and get out here and camp with us before summer is over!
I will be cooking dinner on Saturday night for everyone that responds saying they will be there. If you want to be in charge of a group meal, let me know what meal you'll be preparing and I'll let you know how many people to prepare for.
This camping trip happens every year and you are bound to run into a bunch of people you know up there.</td></tr></tbody></table>

A couple questions....
Will my cell get service there (with a pregnant 19 year old and an 85 year old grandma with an irritable heart I need it) or should I learn to send smoke signals?
What is a good thing to bring for dinner that keeps a few days?
Sandman

Verizon works at the store so you could check voicemail as often as you would like. No service at the campground but the store is walking distance.
Chili? Stew?

According to the poll above and going by what people have told me... So far I think the weekend of the 10th will be:
Sandman
Dodgergirl
Keith
Kim (Epic?)
Jberetti
broken
skaterdave may be there
Corky may come up for a night or two
I'm sure a few other forum members will jump on at the last minute. I'm sorry if I forgot anyone. I'm just going by what my brain remembers right now.
Plus I sent out an invite to my friends on myspace and many people have expressed interest in coming. This may include my friends David, Vannesa, Jay, Jeremy, Sabrina, Marlo, Brian, Marty, and a bunch of others. Also, all of these people may invite more of their friends.
I believe Brian and Jeremy are going to bring their kite board setups and give that a try out there since it gets so windy in the afternoon. We also plan to have boats for wakeboarding.
No matter who and how many people show up, it's sure to be a blast and we'd love to have you come along if it works out with your schedule. We will be camping in the campgrounds so your RV would work well and they usually have space available without reservations but I do plan to go up early Friday and can save enough space for everyone. I may even head up Thursday just to be safe to get a spot before the weekend travelers.
Remember, it's also the meteor shower weekend. :)

I have friends that were going to go up there over the weekend and when they saw how low the water was they turned around and went to Redinger. If you bring a boat up there, be careful for rocks just below the surface. I may be headed to the ocean instead...
