KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - Tammy Faye Bakker Messner, a former televangelist who helped lead a huge television ministry before its collapse in a sex and corruption scandal, has died, her Web site reported on Saturday.
Messner died on Friday at age 65 after a long battle with cancer. CNN's Larry King, who interviewed Messner on his "Larry King Live" talk show on Thursday night, said her family had asked him to make the delayed announcement of her death.
"She died peacefully," King said on CNN's Web site.
"I believe when I leave this Earth because I love the Lord, I am going straight to heaven," Messner told King in the interview.

Interestingly, back in the 80's when I was into the drug lifestyle, I can remember my mom having the PTL club on TV every day as I was getting ready for work. I can remember joking that Tammy Faye was a speed freak because of her mannerisms. She would do the 'finger rubbing with her thumbs' and a lot of fidgeting... BUT I can say, and always have said amidst all of the jokes, hearing their show in the background everyday worked in ways I have yet to understand, but was one of the underlying factors in my admitting myself into a rehab and getting clean.
People tried to make a joke of her (and many succeeded) but what did she ever really do that was criminal? Yes, you can argue that she ripped off millions, but all I see her guilty of was doing whatever her husband told her to... and when that got to be too much for her to handle, self medicating to get over the pain.
I do believe in God & I know He uses what He can for His purpose. I didn't see the interview, but the photos online were enough. I believe Tammy Faye is in heaven with her God, the one she never denounced.
Rest In Peace Tammy Faye
