Dozens of people lined up at City Hall on Tuesday for municipal identification cards, the first city-issued ID cards specifically designed to bring illegal immigrants out of the shadows and give them access to community services.

The cards, available to New Haven's entire population, are meant to help anyone without a state- or federal-issued ID open a bank accounts and use other services that would otherwise be inaccessible. Advocates argue that if immigrants can open bank accounts, they will be less likely to carry large amounts of cash, a practice that makes them easy targets for robbers.

I think this pretty well covers it. Seems to me this guy feels it will give him some type of legal status, circumventing federal law. Unless they're running background checks, fingerprint checks and the whole thing, the ID cards are meaningless, because any name/identity can be used. I'm willing to bet that when the ICE team does more raids, they won't honor these cards. They're useless. If you can't enter legally, or refuse to have used the numerous amnesty programs there have been in the past 15 years, then what are you hiding from??????? I'm against ILLEGAL immigrants, I believe they should have to return home, and I don't believe the "anchor baby" policy should exist, where illegals have a baby here, it is automatically a citizen, so that gives them a possible leverage to be allowed to stay. If the parents are illegal, the child is illegal. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. If they aren't willing to work LEGALLY to become legal, and not expect it to be handed to them, regardless of the laws they have broken, then what does that say for their character???? I've seen too many amnesty programs, to many chances for them to change their status, it's time to end the farce. They have no right IMO to DEMAND their rights, what rights???, they're here illegally, they have no rights to demand citizenship. having working 20+ years in law enforcement/government jobs, I know what the cost is to this country caused by illegals and providing services, costs that the advocates don't talk about. If you're not born in this country to legal parents, citizenship is something to be earned. Off my soap box, sore subject.
