I was sitting here thinking of things my brother and I used to do when we were growing up. One of the things that came to mind was flying kites. Kind of a hard thing to do most places up here, because of the trees and all, but still something to enjoy. So many different kinds of kites exist, from kites shaped like birds, to planes, to dragons, to box kites. I remember going to a kite flying event in San Francisco once when I was little and seeing all the different kits, from store-bought to home made to professionally made for special occasions, to those imported from overseas. It was as much fun as going to a hot air balloon gathering and seeing all the different hot air balloons. The one thing I never understood was the "fighter kites" where people would actually fight with their kites, which were built for that purpose and try to knock each other down. Now why would someone want to knock down a perfectly good kite from the sky? Anyway, just something from my "memory box" as my mind wanders on a summer day.

I also remember flying kites as a kid. I spent the early part of my childhood in southern California and we would often go to the beach. I remember that we would take a kite with us and we would tell friends and family that would meet us there to look for our kite to find out what beach we were at.
