I am looking for suggestions on long term parking while I am gone on vacation to JAMAICA!! I am excited about the trip, it is still 6 weeks away but I am making sure I have all my arrangements clear in my head.
Anyway we are flying out of LAX and we will be gone for 12 days. I was doing some searching online and found some parking places near LAX for cheaper than the airport parking. I am a bit leery about it, but I like the price. I don't walk as well as I used to, so I was hoping to avoid a lot of walking. I have a disabled placard, but i have found that disabled spaces fill up fast in these types of places.
Has anyone gone through this wonderful experience and have any suggestions for me :).
Thanks

Hi Harmony,, I am not sure if you have a disabled parking placard or not but if you do you are all set. There are a few parking lots in the center of LAX that have METERED parking They are next to the multi level parking structures and are on ground level parking lots. You can park there and hang your placard and not have to pay a cent. Other people would have to pay about $26 a day to park that close. We parked there for 21 days and did not have to pay a cent. At any airport in the USA if you have a diable persons plackard you can park for free. Hope this helps
I just re-read and noticed that you have the placard. I have never had a problem getting one of the metered spaces because many people use them to pick up arriving passenger and they leave. but it is always good to have a backup plan as Chem101 stated below. It is just nice not to have to pay the parking charges if you can avoid it. Have fun.

Harmony,
I always use the airport lot "B" off of Aviation Blvd. As I recall, it runs about $8.00 per day. It's easy to catch the LAX airport parking shuttle and it's far enough away from the airport that you won't have to fight airport traffic. A lot of the airport employees use this lot so that should tell you something.
Have fun in Jamaica mon.

Thanks Newcomer and Chem for the tips. I will go with plan A, then lot B for plan B. Thanks for the great tip about the placard, I wouldn't have known to do that!

I travel alot. Whenever possible I stay in a hotel either befor or after my flight. I chose a hotel that offers FLY AND PARK. You get to leave your car at the hotel for free. They load your luggage, take you to the airport, unload your luggage. They also pick you up at the airport load your luggage, take you back to your car and then unload your luggage. It's all included in the price of the room. The drivers know just where to go and dropsyou off as close as possible. I have always been happy with this service. For me it's piece of mind, knowing that my car will be looked after, and that I will get where I need to go easily and on time.

I hope the hurricane spares your destination and does not trash it to badly. Me and KK spent our Honeymoon many years ago in Cozumel a week after hurricane Hugo went right over the center. The place still looked pretty good and we had a great time. we had the place pretty much to ourselves because so many people cancelled their trips.

From what I hear, the hurricane missed Jamaica by about 50 miles and no damage was done to the resort we are staying at :).
Back on the parking note... I was just looking at an FAQ on LAWA.ORG and found this...
"Do vehicles displaying disabled placards or license plates have to pay for parking now?
Yes. People parking in the parking structures must pay for parking at the posted fee."

How long ago did you park there for free, newcomer?

Harmony, The parking lots that have meters are not covered parking, they are uncoverd lots in the center of the loop that have meters. We always park there. Unless things have changed which I think they have not I think you are still ok in those uncovered lots. I park at the metered parking at Fresno and and never have to pay either. On your papaer that came with the placard it states that you can park at ANY metered parking space for free. Have fun

According to the LAX website's "Guide for Disabled..." Metered parking is no longer available at LAX.
Due to my low post count I cannot post links to websites, but it is easy to find by googling Los Angeles World Airports, going to the LAWA site, FAQS and look under the pdf file for the travelers with disabilities brochure.

I always parked at "WallyPark" - not too far from LAX when we lived down south and had to go on biz trips. They shuttle you over and back.
Wallpark has all kinds of services - self park, valet park, they'll wash your car and change your oil too for a price... what ever you need.
www.wallypark.com
They have a coupon section - hit that button -it says you'll get your first day "FREE!" if you sign up. Maybe an idea?

The "Parking Spot" has web link for coupons. They will valet park and wash your car as well. They were very courteous to us - provided newspaper, bottle water, and door to door transportation. Believe that the parking was 20.00 per day with coupon. Parking is undercover so the car is clean when you get back if you do not have them wash.
The web is easy to find if you google "parkingspot" - good luck and have fun in jamaica
