Rice Man gone! Kyoto under new management? What next? Anybody know what happened? Anybody eaten there since the new management? Do they still have the same odd hours that I can never remember?

I was wondering the same thing about Kyoto now that Yoko isn't there.
As far as The Rice Man, I thought it was a good enough place, despite the fact that it was pretty heavy on the teriyaki sauce on most of their stuff. I am getting so I no longer care for teriyaki sauce, mostly because it's been way overdone and tends to overpower the food it is served with. Everything starts to taste the same. It's like drowning your food in ketchup.

I took my elderly father to Kyoto early in December. He always wants to go there whenever he visits. It has food REALLY changed with the "new management". The cook & the lady working with him were very quiet & only took our order. There was no other dialog. We always love the beef donburi. The food had very little flavor and the beef was extremely fatty and tough. When Yoko was there the beef was very lean and tasty. I will miss Yoko's food but I don't think I will be going back. To bad, it was my favorite.

Yes, they are really under new management. My family ate there over the New Year's holiday. I believe the new owners/workers are Korean.
The food was OK and the service was excellent once I recognized the switch of nationality (and verbally demonstrated that I knew the difference.)
The quality was a tick down, but generally it takes a month or so for a new crew to get "dialed in." We'll be back, but are reserving judgment.
