The dog agency needs to look past their "contract" and see that the dog was placed in a good home... why would they want it back just to have to feed, etc. again to try to find another home... it had a home...
Unbelievable.

I watched this yesterday. This is very sad. And this agency has done this before. One lady went on vacation and left her dog with a friend to take care of. The agency called and she told the truth. They took her dog. At least she got her dog back.
I hope with all the bad publicity this agency is getting they change some of thier rules and give Iggy back to her knew family.

The whole thing is dumb, as BGW and KK said, all the agency needed to do was go check to make sure the dog had been placed in an appropriate home, instead of breaking two little girls hearts.

I saw the rescue shelter owner on tv yesterday and she said that she will never give the dog back now because of the way Ellen handled it and the media.
I personally think its pretty selfish to the new owners, AND the dog to take it away from a safe and loving home.
Seems to me that the shelter owner thought she'd get some free publicity and didn't expect the negative outcome to fall on herself. What a shame!

The shelter owner must have it out for Ellen or celebrity or something trying to make an "example" of Ellen. I understand a contract is a contract, but on something like this - give me a break! The world isn't always so black and white.

They have this sort of rescue service here, too.., a couple of years ago (before baby j) Cristina was wanting a pug, so I researched Pug rescue centers in this area. I was repeatedly told that I could not start the process, nor adopt on behalf of my daughter, even though she was responsible, blah blah blah... They told me if I was the adopter than the animal would need to stay in my care, or be returned to the shelter. If she wanted a dog she would need to start the process from the beginning and have them visit her home. Apparently they need to visit the home before they even consider the person adopting. Foster care for kids doesn't even seem to go through such a rigorous process....
Maybe knowing this information woulda helped Ellen, she could have possibly returned the dog to the shelter and had the other family go through the process... I feel sad for the kids involved, but I for one am impressed to see that there wasn't special treatment and a bending of the rules for a celebrity. It's gonna hurt, but honestly I believe the lesson learned by the children regarding following the rules is more important in the long run.

It's a sad story indeed. However, I am taking sides with the shelter. Rules are rules and they are in place for a reason. The lady is doing a great thing. She is helping to find homes for many homeless pets. She has to have some rules. Every shelter I have been to has similar rules. Now Ellen thinks that she can use her celebrity status to get her way. I think that's wrong. If this happened to anyone besides Ellen, nobody would even care. The dog has already been given a new home. Now Ellen and the media are making this woman at the shelter out to be this terrible person when she is not. She says now her business may close down due to bad press. How many animals will suffer now? It's sad, but Ellen was the one that didn't go by the rules. I hate it when celebrities think they are the exception to rules.

There are alot of animals that need homes. In cases like this celeb or no celeb, all they had to do was go to the new home. Check it out. Everything would have been ok. No biggie. I agree with KK not everything is black & white. This could have been an easy fix.
And what about the lady I was talking about in the above post. The dog didn't run away, the dog wasn't left by itself. The dog was under someone else's care. What you adopt a pet from them and you can't go on vacation. Pleeeaaase.

I'm just glad that Ellen admits that she was wrong and she broke an agreement that she signed. At least she is willing to admit fault.
However, who is the loser in this situation? The dog has a new home, so the dog is fine. The dog doesn't know what's going on in this situation. It's not like the dog is stuck in a shelter instead of a home. The dog has a new home. I feel bad for the family that got the dog taken away from. But they should be upset at Ellen, not the adoption agency. Ellen shouldn't have given them a dog that wasn't hers to give away. I feel bad for the kids, but they can learn a valuable lesson... you gotta go by the rules. Ellen didn't follow the rules. They can learn to get over it and the adults involved should help them get over it, not make a big issue out of it. That's only hurting the kids. Take them to the adoption agency so that they can pick out a dog and do it the right way.
I agree that perhaps the agency didn't take the time to see if the family was good for the dog, but in the end they are in the right since Ellen broke an agreement. The parents of those children should help those kids move on. Bringing them on TV and making a big deal of the situation only makes it worse for them.
As far as the other lady goes that lost her dog when she was on vacation, the agency didn't think the dog was left in a good environment. But that's a whole different situation. Kids were not involved and brought all over TV. I think it's just awful that Ellen and the parents of those children are putting those kids through this. The law is not on their side and those kids should be taught to respect the law in this case. A signed legal agreement is an important thing to honor.

Some reports are now coming in about Ellen and her history as a pet owner. There have been reports that this type of situation has happened to Ellen in the past. In fact, there may be up to 9 pets that she has adopted and then given away. A few years ago, she was on her show asking people to help her name her new rescued puppy. There was another case of a new dog that she adopted while visiting the Bay Area and named "Oakland". Where are these dogs now? I feel that Ellen makes a habit of adopting pets, only to give them away when she realizes she can't handle the responsibility.
Also, I would like to point out that many adoption agencies have rules in place that they will not adopt to families with kids. Apparently there have been many cases of families adopting a pet, then the pet nips at their kid and they have the dog put to sleep instead of returning it to the adoption agency. They try to prevent this by adopting out to people with no children. You may or may not agree with that rule, but who are we to say what rules an organization can or can not have. This was a rule this agancy had and Ellen screwed up.
Bottom line is that Ellen owes those kids a huge apology and those parents should help the kids deal with the loss instead of encouraging them to fight.

I found it interesting that on the show she stated she 'paid the vet' extra so he would take the puppy home to sleep in his bed, and then told of the thousands she paid for a trainer...didn't seem like she actually bonded with the pup, just wanted to be the rescuer..., which isn't a terrible thing, but she shouldn't of made such an issue out of it when it didn't work out the way she wanted it to...

I understand the need for the rule but they should have a system where the new owners can become approved. Neither the kids nor the puppy benefit from forming a bond and then being separated. This is like the letter and spirit of the law. When I was 18 (pre cell phone) I witnessed a very bad motorcycle accident involving two of my closest friends. One was in critical condition actually had his leg torn off. I went to the closest house when I got no answer I kicked in the door and ran to the phone and dialed 911. The police could have charged me with breaking and entering but they didn't. There is no doubt I broke the law as written but I didn't break the law in respect to its spirit. I did made arrangements with the home owner to pay for the repairs. I feel the same way about this. Ellen wasn't being devious she didn't get the pup to resell it or return it to the person it was rescued from. I think the shelter is lacking in logic and compassion.
