* the peace you can find

* the privacy you can have

* the moss that grows on the trees and the rocks

* creeks and lakes when it's quiet

* the way it smells when seasons change

*Not living in a nasty city

*Being a "regular" at a place and everyone who works there knows you

*Yosemite being up the street

*Knowing that if some sort of major crisis were to happen to anyone around here, someone would help

*Waving at people when I am driving

*Wasuma elementary school and the great teachers there

*Six degrees of separation (though sometimes this is a curse)

*Having an urgent care that you don't have to wait at for twelve hours to see a doctor

*The different demographics of the area

*The new bookstore

*That it doesn't cost 20 dollars to see a movie

I love that this is like a little piece of the midwest right in the middle of California.

I love that we almost have actual seasons.

I love the wildlife (animals, not OF members)

I love the fertile soil eventhough Im no good with it

I adore the sunsets

I love the backwood hicks, especially the old men in overalls

I love our charter home school

I love that you can live in a remote area or in a crowded neighborhood and never leave town

I love to tell people where I live

The people

The change in seasons

The snow (enough to play in, generally not enough to cause major problems)

The traffic (you can tell I haven't been down the 41 for a few months)

The people (the teachers & administrators at the North Fork school are wonderful, and the kids are so loving)

The Oaks, The Pines (and all the oak trees & pine trees. How come there's no "The Manzanita"?)

The proximity to lakes, especially the uncrowded ones.

4'th of July Fireworks on the water

The creek down from our place

The room for our kids to play and grow up

And - did I mention the people?

I love the people. It seems to me that the people who live in these mountains are special. Most of the people I know are friendly, generous, kind, honest, intelligent, and neighborly. Most of us are here because we choose to be here, and maybe that makes the difference. Thanks for the thread.

All of the above, plus I love watching the steam rise off the ground on cold mornings when the sun warms it. Oh, and the people. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif
