Oakhurst Computers will be located under Round Table Pizza, facing highway 41. This is where the old cigarette store was previously located. Although we plan a soft opening in November, our Grand Opening Celebration will be in January. At that time, our store will be fully stocked with merchandise that you can now only get in Fresno.

PC Repair: You will be able to bring your computer to our store for repair and upgrade services. We can speed up your system, get rid of viruses and adware, diagnose software or hardware problems or boost the performance with a memory upgrade.

Custom Computers: Buy a used or new custom built computer in Oakhurst at an affordable price!

Accessories/Parts: Buy new accessories, components, software, hardware and more computer related products!

Also, Oakhurst Online will be located at Oakhurst Computers!

Web Services: Get a top notch website from our team of developers. Get it hosted on our ultra fast and high bandwidth servers. Promote it with the search engines and on local area websites.

Internet Services:
Through our partners, we can sign you up with Internet connectivity services... Dialup, DSL, and other options to be announced.

This means that Yosemite Area Online/Forums will have a new home. We plan to host events in the store, the first will be our Grand Opening Celebration in January. I also plan to install a deadwood webcam and another camera aiming north on 41. Eventually, we will also have a weather station. All of this will be accessible via this website.

Oakhurst Computers is owned by Corky Stanton and Scott Cockerham, long time Oakhurst business owners and very good friends and business associates of mine. Oakhurst Online is basically it's sister company, owned by myself.

Together, Oakhurst Computers and Oakhurst Online will help you with all Computer and Online needs, from our Oakhurst store.

Yes, we will have laptops new and used for sale. :)

We signed the lease and have the keys. We are in the process of remodeling the store.

Our telephone number at Oakhurst Computers will be (559) 683-GIGS. That's 683-4447. Oakhurst Online is already in business and can always be reached at (559) 760-4077.

Here is an update. We have our business license, insurance, DSL, telephone, some inventory and we have the keys to our new store. We are getting an alarm and video surveillance installed this week. Right now the store is being completely remodeled. If you were in this store previously when it was occupied by another business, you will no longer recognize it when you visit us on November 1st!

We will be utilizing all of the windows and both doors since we have leased two stores side by side. The previous occupant only used one of the two stores for window displays. When you first walk in the store, you will be reminded of being in CompUSA or another leading computer store. We will have full displays, computers to demo, walls to hang products with software, hardware and a lot more. We are building a wall to separate our office and repair area. A full service counter is located towards the back of the store and a desk will be setup in this area so that we can sit down with clients to discuss a website or custom built computer. Our desks and repair area are located in the back of the store.

November 1st is our soft opening. At this time, our store will not be fully stocked. However, we will have many popular items in stock and will be able to order anything for you. Most items can be shipped in just one business day. Our repair center will be fully functional on November 1st, as will Oakhurst Online web services.

In January, we plan to have our Grand Opening Celebration! At that time, our store will be fully stocked with over 50k worth of merchandise. No need to go to Fresno, shop local. :)

Get a preview of our Yellow Pages ad at www.oakhurstcomputers.com (http://www.oakhurstcomputers.com) and our full website will be up soon. Eventually, you will be able to order online or just come into the store. If you do order online, you will have the option to pickup in the store or have your order shipped to you.

At some point, we plan to have a gaming center that will allow our customers to come in our store after hours to play network games. Perhaps that will be ready in the spring.

If you need immediate computer services, call Oakhurst Online at (559) 760-4077 and Corky Stanton or myself will be happy to assist you. If you can wait a few more weeks, stop in our store on November 1st.

Another bit of info... we will not support Windows98 or later since 98 is a decade old. We will only support WindowsXP or Vista. Microsoft no longer supports 98, so neither will we. If you don't have XP or Vista, it's time to upgrade. Oakhurst Computers can upgrade your computer for you. :) We will be an authorized Microsoft dealer and you can purchase Vista at our store.

Also, we are PC only... no Macs.

Everything is coming along nicely. Corky started working on a website. See http://oakhurstcomputers.com/ to see what we have so far. Eventually, the site will feature an online store. We may push the Nov 1st opening day back a week or so. I'll let you know when we are open.

We are not open, but today I had my first meeting at my new office. My new oak desk should arrive tomorrow or the next day. For now, I have been using another desk at the office. Tomorrow morning I will wake up and drive to Oakhurst Computers where I will work on a few websites. It feels nice so far. The construction will be complete this week. We will stock the store next week. We'll be open for business very soon. :)

Once we are open, I will be sending an email to all members of this website to announce our new home. That email will include a special coupon for a free computer diagnostic. We will test your hardware for problems and recommend upgrades to speed up your system.

Oakhurst Computers (www.oakhurstcomputers.com) will be opening next week. It's a soft opening as we are not yet fully stocked, but come on by and check us out. We can fix any computer problems your having at an affordable price. Also, we can custom build a desktop computer or order you any brand laptop. If we don't have it in stock, order it and pick it up the next day custom built to your specs and warrantied by us, as well as the manufacturer. We already sold a few computers and have very happy customers. (559) 683-4447 is the number to call.

Thanks for the compliments on the website. Corky designed that one after we discussed what we wanted, but it will evolve over time.

I have several laptop options for you. Feel free to stop back by the store next week if you want. We'll be here Mon - Wed & Fri from 10 AM - 6 PM. After that, we'll be here Monday - Friday from 10AM - 6PM, plus Saturdays. We may adjust those hours but we will have our hours on the website. Scott is the person that you want to talk to. We just sold a brand new laptop with warranty yesterday and it was right around the price I quoted you the other day.

Sandman

I confirmed this with Corky and Scott...

The store will be open Mon-Fri 10AM-6PM & Sat 10AM-2PM. We will be closed on most holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

Come on by and visit us!

We may adjust these hours after we are open for a few weeks.

Oakhurst Computers

If you would like the convenience of local computer sales, same-day service and repair you're in luck! Long-time residents and local businesses owners, Corky Stanton and Scott Cockerham, opened the new Oakhurst Computers on Monday.

Scott has many years experience building and repairing computers. In 1996, Corky started SierraNet, the first local number Internet service in Oakhurst. He taught computer classes at Yosemite High and started SierraStar.com.

Mathew Sands, General Manager, worked with Corky at SierraNet and started his own web company, Oakhurst Online, in 2002. Oakhurst Online web design and hosting services are also provided at the new store. "Stop by Oakhurst Computers if you're interested in purchasing a new computer or need some help with your existing PC. While you're here, you can pick my brain about websites," said Sands.

The new Oakhurst store has holiday specials on new laptops and desktop computers. Also check out their inventory for great deals on external hard drives, memory, iPod accessories and more. Their repair technicians can remove spyware and viruses from your computer, making your computer boot faster and perform better.

They will also offer computer pick-up and delivery services, as well as on-site services. Senior discounts available.

Oakhurst Computers is located at 40034 Hwy. 49 Suite A11 in Oakhurst. (Below Round Table Pizza facing Hwy. 41). Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Call 559-683-GIGS (683-4447)

I told my husband and son about your new store and they were in there on Thursday (two big guys). He was very impressed with the help he received from you regarding his questions about our old laptop and your knowledge of what could be done with it. Thanks for your help. We wish you all great success with your new venture. We know how hard it is to keep a business going. We use to have the Bible Book store in town, but had to close it last year as we didn't get enough support from the locals in town to keep us in business. We wish you God's Blessings. He will probably be bringing in our loptop on Friday. We are glad you are here. We like to support the local stores and stay away from Fresno as much as we can. Good Luck and God's Speed.

I took my computer into Oakhurst Computers today because we had somehow downloaded a virus and needed to have it cleaned. Corky took the computer off of the counter before we even had the paperwork completed and began working on it. I then went to Vons and before I had finished my shopping I received a phone call explaining what I needed and was given an estimate. When we were in the shop earlier the quotes were clearly posted, and we discussed pricing, but my problem was worse than we had initially thought.
Although we are friends and have known each other for quite some time, I was impressed with the professional manner and prompt service offered by both Mat & Corky...
Since it was a learning experience for my older son, we contacted another local computer repair service, they quoted us over twice what was posted at Oakhurst Computers.
I looked for the poll so I could voice my opinion, but do not see it... I felt I couldn't say much before but now that I have actually been a customer at Oakhurst Computers I think my opinion is valid.
Check them out...

(I'm on Davy's laptop and it has sticky keys, so I won't be on much until I get mine back, this took waaaaay too long to type)

Thanks for the feedback Dodgergirl!

We have 12 repair workstations in the back of our store. When a customer brings in a broken computer, we put it on the counter right away. We don't set it on the floor and let it collect dust at our store. In fact, sometimes we are able to fix it while you wait. Unfortunately, Dodgergirl's computer ended up needing a complete overhaul and some parts we ordered, so it has to stay overnight. It'll be back home tomorrow.

Although we are friends with Dodgergirl, she didn't get any special treatment in the customer support we offered her. We will go out of our way to make sure each and every customer leaves our store with a smile.

I fully appreciate the wonderful things that home computers can do for us. I can instantly contact friends in Birmingham, Ala., or Birmingham, England.

I don't have to remember who played Bottom in the 1930s movie of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," I can just Google it. I can look up restaurant menus, find out the chemical composition of table salt or the best way to remove ticks from my dogs without having a personal library the size of Rhode Island.

But I want to turn the thing on and go. I don't want to know how it does what it does, or program it to do something special. When it doesn't do what I want it to do, I don't want to have to fool with it.

That's where a place like Oakhurst Computers comes in. The business opened late in November in the Old Mill shopping center on the lower level, the spot everyone describes as under Round Table Pizza in the Vons center. It's the brainchild of Corky Stanton and Scott Cockerham.

Stanton was the founder of SierraNet in 1996 and has taught computer classes. Cockerham has many years of experience building and repairing computers.

For their general manager, they picked Mathew Sands, the man behind Oakhurst Online.

These guys know computers so I don't have to.

And Stanton promises that a real person will answer the phone when you call.

The guys do free checkups, Web design and hosting on fast servers and they have 15 computer repair stations. They're also planning seminars on how to use Vista, the new operating system for Windows.

They'll custom-build a PC for you, do virus removal and upgrades and they sell software, parts and accessories. They'll even pick up and deliver your machinery.

Check them out at www.oakhurstcomputers.com (http://www.oakhurstcomputers.com/) or call (559) 683-GIGS (683-4447).

Well, I was finally able to vote in this poll and add my comments here.

I visited Oakhurst Computers yesterday to get some raffle tickets, the staff was friendly and helpful, my husband came with me and had questions about his computer. Corky was able to answer his questions (in language we could understand) and even gave us an estimate of what it would cost.

Today we went back in and brought my husbands computer with us. Mat was very helpful and friendly and answered even more questions and the staff there got my husbands computer woe's fixed. YAY!
Oh, and it didn't break the bank.
Thanks guys!
We'll be back

My dad took his computer in on Monday I think it was. We had been having some problems with it, trying to load new programs and such. The Ad-aware program had not been working right and I guess the computer was full of spy ware and such, according to my mom. Anyway, my dad said the person he dealt with was very nice and helpful (might have been Corky), and my mom said the person she talked to on the phone was very nice and helpful also. They'll be back if they have any more problems. Thanks!

Question? Are you set up to handle warranty repairs? Not those done through individual stores, but actual manufacturers warranties?

Sandman
Apr 11, 2008, 05:19 PM
Not at this time. You need to contact the manufacturer if it's under warranty.
