Looks the Oakroom finally sold. There is a liquor license tranfer notice in the window listing Timberline Ranch Inc. (out of North Fork) as the new owners. Current owners say the transaction will be complete in 70 days. Will wonders never cease??

Hi,
I'm one of the new owners of the Oakroom, and I just wanted to thank everyone who's come in and said how happy they are with the place in just the past week we've taken over. Its really overwhelming how nice and complementary everyone has been. We've been having a lot of fun, and from everything everyone has been telling us, you have been too.
In answer to a few of the questions we've been getting a lot, I'd just note that 1) yes, we are keeping the name 2) yes, we do have some changes planned such as improving the bathrooms and the parking lot lighting and perhaps some other things if we can get the county to give us permits 3) yes we have been cleaning at a furious rate and still have further to go 4) yes we have changed one rule - no drugs.
Thanks again to everyone! Our top priorities are that the Oakroom is a clean, safe, and fun place to enjoy.

It was great to meet you on Friday night Nas. The Oak Room is already looking a whole lot better and their was a great crowd of people on Friday. I think you will do very good. I'd like to encourage everyone to stop in.

I, too, had a great time Friday night. It was nice to meet you and your wife, Nas. Gotta say, the service was great, and being able to see out windows was nice, too... The patio looked like a different room since the fixtures have been cleaned/replaced? Looks like y'all are on the right track... keep up the good work.
So, tell us Nas, what's the plan for the Yarn Barn?

I am planning on going to the Oak Room tomorrow (Friday) night. An old friend is in town and we are going to go out for drinks to catch up. She moved away from Oakhurst a decade ago and this is her first visit back. Come on out to the Oak Room to see all of the improvements. :)

Sandman & Dodgergirl it was nice to see you last night; hope you had a good time. It was a pretty good crowd, a good mix of guys and gals, and everyone seemed to be having fun.

I saw a flyer for St. Patricks Day last night. Is this a public event at the OR? details, please...

Since the Oak Room has changed owners and many changes have been made, I have reset the poll that is attached to this thread. Please only vote on this poll if you have visited the Oak Room since the new owners have taken over.
Also, The Oak Room is having a potluck today. Come on by and join the party and have a green beer.

I just wanted to say that I stopped by the Oak Room for a beer last night and the place was packed. Even though it was busy, I got quick and friendly service as soon as I walked in the door. Many locals are realizing that the Oak Room has changed a lot and this is the place to be if you are going out to have a few drinks. The prices are fair, there is no cover charge and it's a fun place to be on a Friday or Saturday night. The locals go to the Oak Room. The tourists go to the overpriced bars. Many locals switched to the less expensive and fun alternative. If you visit the Oak Room, you'll see why. So stop by the Oak Room tonight if you are looking for something to do. You'll be impressed.

You will see a few familiar faces behind the bar. Eddie and Sheila are still there. Other than that, it is mostly a family owned and operated bar. The entire family is great! One of the owners is there at all times. They now have video cameras setup for added safety. It's kind of cool... you can sit at the bar and watch live reality television. It's cleaner, safer and all around a much improved Oak Room. It's a nice place to stop for a cold beer after a long week of work.

Tonight we tested out playing Wii games at the Oak Room, and it went pretty well.
The folks who played enjoyed bowling, tennis, & baseball. It got a little crowded at one point, when we had a group playing shuffleboard (which we've moved inside recently), another group playing darts, a few dancing, and some playing pool all in the same general area; but, everyone had a good time and made accommodations for one another. At other points, it wasn't so crowded and those who had never played the Wii before seemed to get a real kick out of it.
A number suggested "Guitar Hero" as a great possibility, and I agree.
Bottom line, I will be doing "Wii Wednesdays" again, and will keep doing so as long as it goes well. There's some logistics - - such as making sure the remotes don't get lost / damaged, making sure it doesn't get too crowded in one area, and determining a fair value, etc. But as long as folks have fun and desire it then that's a good thing.

Ok - I never saw a fight at the Oakroom (although many I know say they happened all the time.) But, I never became a regular there - just wasn't my crowd. But did go a few times prior to the new ownership... especially if Stone River was playing there.
But... last night, after a wine primer at the Queens Inn, we decided to stop in and check out the band... my first time in the Oak Room in gosh, probably 2 years?
It has cleaned up nicely and seemed like a good crowd.
The thing I most hated about the Oakroom still exists! Why is there no door in the woman's bathroom to the stall? At least put a sheet or curtain up on a sliding rod - that wouldn't be difficult! 3 ladies in the bathroom when I walked in and one on the pot! And the when the main door is open, men standing in the hall can see in at you... and worst, a man (which I did see happen) can walk in any time and see you on the pot!!! Just disgusts me. I won't do it - I just won't!!! :)
We had fun for a little over an hour. But, I can't stick at a place and DRINK DRINK DRINK (which I chose not to do since I knew I wouldn't be able to use their bathroom) for an extended period of time with no place to go to the bathroom (cuz I won't use that one without a door to the stall!) Had to leave to find a place with a private bathroom stall! :)
I know - TMI!

It might shade towards TMI, but everyone deserves bathroom privacy.
I've noticed, and since then tried not to notice, that one of the ladies rooms at the Met Theater is a bit too open to the lobby. Immediately after a movie lets out and there is a lot of in and out traffic through the door, it's almost like the door is not there.

The bathrooms are in the process of being remodeled. Unfortunately, in order to remain handicapped accessible, we'll have to have one toilet in the ladies room without a door - - there just isn't room to build walls and a door and still have the required turn around area for a wheel chair. The other stall will have a door, however.
Currently we've ripped out the floor and replaced with tile in the mens and ladies, added a new lavatory in the mens, with one on the way for the ladies. The floor in both rooms was aweful, with layers upon layers of plywood and linoleum tile and particle board and more tile, and more plywood, etc. from years and years of the previous owners putting down a new floor. And all the layers were soaked with - well, I'll leave it to your imagination. Just know that they actually smell clean and fresh now.
In other news, we're in the process of building a website. You can preview it in its construction phase at http://www.oakroom.biz

We'll have a Disc Jockey at the Oakroom tonight for anyone who has started to get cabin fever from the last few weeks of rough weather.
No cover charge (we have never had a cover charge).
Actually this was scheduled for last Friday, but the weather was so bad that night we rescheduled it for tonight.

Stepped? Better than falling!
I didn't realize you'd posted that you'd be at the Queens Inn shortly before I posted that we have a DJ tonight at the Oakroom, but maybe I'll stop by for a quick imported beer at the Queens before heading home.

Cool. Gotta go pick up my date, then we'll be at the QI in about 30 min, followed by the OR at about 9 or 10. Hope to see you Nas.

Robb, we have your Sugar Pine Pizza $25 Gift Certificate that you donated for our Nuts & Bolts party next Saturday proudly displayed right in the center of the back bar.
I'm guessing that since another pizza company in town is running a national advertisement on T.V. is not helping you this week.

I'm definitely coming to the Queens Inn. This should be beautiful from there (this is from National Geographic (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/01/100129-biggest-full-moon-2010-mars/)):
The biggest full moon (http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/space/solar-system/full-moon-article.html) of 2010 will rise in the east tonight, and it'll appear with a bright sidekick: Mars (http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/space/solar-system/mars-article.html) will cozy up just to the left of the supersize moon.January's full moon is also called the wolf moon, according to Native American tradition associating this month's full moon with wolves howling in the cold midwinter.
The 2010 wolf moon will appear 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than any other full moon this year, because our cosmic neighbor will actually be closer to Earth than usual.
The moon will be at its closest perigee—the nearest it gets to our planet during its egg-shaped orbit—for 2010 at 4:04 a.m. ET Saturday, reaching a distance of 221,577 miles (356,593 kilometers) from Earth.
Then who knows, maybe I'll even stick around to enjoy the DJ at the Oakroom for little bit afterward.
