How long are you looking to rent a place? How much furniture do you have? Do you get along with cats and a dog?

been to social...I get about $555 a month and I have a 7 month old son, that's why I can't afford more than $300. I just need somewhere for like 2 months til I can find a place of my own, get approved for low-income housing assistance, get a job, etc...I LOVE dogs and get along with cats.

How are you gonna work with a baby? It's really hard, but I wish you luck. If you end up totally homeless, I might know of a place for you, but it's really small.

Legally they cannot put you out on the street with a baby. granted your on time with your rent. The law can grant you up to 6 months to find a place. Downside you do have to plead your case in court.

Messy, that'd be great if she already had a home. But reality is, theres alot of single moms with deadbeat dads out there and those moms are doing what is called couch surfing. There is no help for single moms to find them housing. Not up here, not in this county. Period. Just one of those cool Sheriff Department SUVs costs enough to house 4 families for a year. And each deputy has thier own, no sharing them. There is some subsidized daycare. For moms with jobs, and a permanent address only. There are 2 apartment complexes that have subsidized rent. Waiting lists are over a year. AFDC gives a single parent with 1 kid 555. A just over 125 in food aid. IF the other parent pays support, it reduces the AFDC.

I was one of those single moms when i moved back here. when i found my own place after 6 months he wanted to move back in. it was dec. and nothing was available. i was going thru custody and child support issues with sh*thead. my lawyer told me, I could not be thrown out in the street with 3 kids. i could go to court plead my case to the judge and he could grant me up to 6 months to find a place. luckly i didnt have to do that. cause i did find a place.
however; if she cant find a place she can go to court to get more time. i know how hard it is beleave me.

I think Messy means if you were getting formally evicted you could ask for more time to find a new place.

I didn't realize that you were living with your mom, and maybe others didn't assume you were either. Is there anyway you can make the move with your mom and make a new start in Michigan? Could be more there for you than in Oakhurst. Having grown up in Oakhurst, I know it doesn't offer much in the way of opportunity for young people, especially a young single mom. The dating pool is way small, no real means of further education and a employment, well, thats where the education comes in. This is how it was when I was young and I don't think a whole lot has changed. No one is more attached to Oakhurst than me, afterall, this is the last place I saw my father alive, but I had to leave to find a husband and start a future before I came back to enjoy living here.

There's no where for me to stay in Michigan...I can move out there in about a year, once she gets settled and finds a place.

I might have a more permanent room for you with no house limits (except for my room & my bathroom), if you don't mind kids, and outside animals! The rest of the house would be shared. E-mail or call me. We can discuss this more!

Yes, I'm staying with Carree for $75 a week or $300 a month, until the low income housing goes through.

I know this forum was from months ago but I wanted to put my two bits in. I know exactly what Cloey was going through. Im currently living with a family member right now, I have two children, I have a job but it doesnt pay enough to support both my children and pay rent/utilities too. As far as trying to find a small decent place in North Fork is also about near impossible. And I wouldnt like living or sharing a house with someone I really didnt know, for my childrens sake. IT just keeps amazing me every time I read the classifides and it seems that most "Decent" rentals cost $750 and up. Well guess thats where taking on two jobs is going to come into the picture. Anyways, just wanted to say to Cloey, you arent alone there girl.

Take it from me. I sure do love those mountains but there isn't much in the way of opportunities that will eventually get you off subsistence. Focus on getting some education / training in Fresno if you can afford the gas. I swore I would never leave but had to go work somewhere else 20 years ago and I will be back to retire one of these days.
