I was wondering what people think of the new anti-drug commercial where they show the drug dealer complaining about lack of business due to kids taking their parents drugs.
I personally am sick of all the regular drug companies ads. The country has a fit about JJ's 1/2 second flash at the super bowl but it's ok to have viagra commercials on tv all day and night. How many of us have had to answer questions from young children about what viagra is for? I'd like to see all drug company commercials taken off the air. Maybe drugs wouldn't be so expensive if we didn't have the cost of all these multi million tv ad campaigns that just get passed along to us in the cost of the drugs. Why should alcohol commercials be illegal but drug commercials not. I think all the same reasons they took alcohol ads of the air apply equally to drugs.

The drug commercials I hate the most are those stupid Enzyte ones with the grinning meat-puppet "Bob." Especially the Christmas one, when the announcer made several innuendos that were tacky and inappropriate for general viewing audiences. The reference to Bob's "chubby Santa" really was sleazy. I am glad I don't have any kids asking questions about stupid commercials like that.

Madscot I had to answer those questions. First they just started airing those at night. Then it was all day. All 3 of my kids 10, 8, 7 asked about that one particular commercial and yes I was peeved. How do I answer that. I said some men feel they need to take that medication when they get older. My 7 year old says well whatever it does it sure makes him smile big. Didn't know if I should be madder or laugh.
And the new one with the man running out of business ...what can I say to that. All these drug commercials irritate me. They should be something your Doctor explains not your TV.

Enzyte is not a prescription drug but a "dietary aid" and so restrictions don't apply to that one as they do to others.
I wasn't aware that alcohol ads were illegal; I sure do see a lot of them.
As far as prescription drug ads go, I'd prefer to see drug companies reined in, the fact is, all other companies that sell things get to advertise and participate in the free market. It really blows that people have to tell their kids what ED is at such a young age, and I don't look forward to that when I'm watching the baby, but hell, the answer of "You're too young to know now" worked on me and worked with my kid, and it'll have to work in the future.

What bothers me the most are ads for "homeopathic" and other items that are obvious frauds. Those pads that started being advertised a few weeks ago - the ones you put on the bottom of your feet to draw out "toxis" and "heavy metals." I don't see how they can get away with stuff like that. There is absolutely no way those pads can work yet they advertise them and people buy them. I guess it's all about caveat emptor; let the buyer beware.

I was wrong the ban on hard alcohol ads was a voluntary one instituted by the networks. Cigarette ads were banned in 1971. It used to be law firms couldn't advertise on TV but that law was changed.
