I was told that there was a parking area near Fish Camp where families could pull over for snow play. Where is it?, and is it an official Sno Park area where you need to buy and display a permit? (and if so, where do you get the permit, and how much does it cost?)

What kind of snow play: hills for sliding, tubing, toboggans, sleds, skis????????

Thanks! Grandchildren on their way this coming weekend.....

The best place is the Goat Meadow Snow Play area - north of Fish Camp, just before the park entrance. You'll need chains/4wd to get up the road. Big parking lot where people set up to tailgate, sledding hill, trails. Get there 'early' before the lot fills up and the sheriff starts directing traffic. No permit needed.

There are other places that people pull out and sled despite the NO PARKING ANY TIME signs. You'll see them. I think some people play in the meadow across from the Fish Camp store, but it's pretty flat.

Go way past Fish Camp. There will be a sign directing you to turn right. It's about a half mile back. Not much there though.

I don't recommend the meadow across from the General Store as there is a pond there and it could be dangerous for little ones. I also don't recommend pulling by the side of the road for the same reasons. The snow play area is a great place to play with sleds, etc. There are no facilities such as food, etc there. I think there may be porta potties though. There's lots of snow so right now is a perfect time to go. Have fun!

Oops

Goat Meadow is our favorite place to go, anyway. There's a dumpster and portapotties and a decent hill to slide down. There will be a lot of people, but you can get away from them by walking for five minutes.

We have two great-nephews and their parents visiting from the Bay Area next weekend. They are 7 and 9. We wanted to take them out to play in the snow Saturday.
They came up last year at this time and we took them up to Thornberry off Rd 223-Teaford. It was their first time in the snow, and neither enjoyed it all that much because they weren't dressed well for it and got cold and wet quickly, plus we didn't have any real sleds (Oakhurst was sold out!) Mom is supposed to have gotten them some better gear, and we got a couple of 'cheap' saucers from True Value.so we're hoping this year they might have more fun.
We were thinking of going to Goat Meadow, but have never been. I found this thread, which is helpful. I went and bought some cables for my car today... Does anyone have anything else to add? Or any other suggestions of where to go? What's the deal with Badger Pass - their website says $15 for a 2 hour session for inner-tubing, starting at 11:30 or 2. But it doesn't really say whether that includes tube rental...
Any info, advice or suggestions are appreciated!

I think it does include the tube rental and we had a blast a couple of years ago, took my 6yr old and 9yr old daughters - they loved it.

I phoned this morning and it does include the tube rental. Parents who are not going to tube do not have to pay. Now we just keep an eye on the weather I guess!
