Is it the regular winter doldrums or the continuing affect of the Ferguson rock slide that have "closed" signs popping up in more and more businesses downtown. No matter the reason, really; closed is closed.
Late last week, the Red Fox restaurant on Highway 140 at 12th Street, just closed. There was no going out of business message. There were no warnings to customers or even the landlord, apparently. The restaurant just stopped operating.
"When a Mariposa institution like the Red Fox closes, it indicates something is seriously wrong," said Roger Biery, who serves on boards of both the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the Tourism Bureau.
