Closed signs abound in downtown Mariposa

Is it the regular winter doldrums or the continuing affect of the Ferguson rock slide that have "closed" signs popping up in more and more businesses downtown. No matter the reason, really; closed is closed.
Late last week, the Red Fox restaurant on Highway 140 at 12th Street, just closed. There was no going out of business message. There were no warnings to customers or even the landlord, apparently. The restaurant just stopped operating.
"When a Mariposa institution like the Red Fox closes, it indicates something is seriously wrong," said Roger Biery, who serves on boards of both the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the Tourism Bureau.

If you read the full article...

"The Red Fox employed around 10 people, some of whom said that Fausnight told them he would be closing due to an illness."

This has more to do with their closing, I bet. The story sounds so speculative. Unfortunately when one has a private, personal crisis (illness or more serious) and they have a public business...it's very hard to remain private. I expect the inquiring public wants to know...and perhaps, they should know. Perhaps the employees were told to keep mum.

The Red Fox is a town favorite and hopefully will reopen soon.
