I have the opportunity to rent some space in an established business, in Oakhurst. The place is a restaurant so excellent food will be available during certain hours
I was thinking a gaming shop is something sorely needed up here.

I would like to include the following gaming options. Please let me know if you are in the area and would like to see this happen, as well as any ideas you have for me.

Computers for rent by the hour for, gaming, internet, graphics, sound editing.

Much cheaper than elsewhere, couple dollars an hour for gaming. 1.50/hr for internet - Free usage with purchase of food items.

tv's with PS3 and Xbox 360 for rent by the hour (few dollars an hour)
A very large screen DMP (Imagine Halo 3 with 3 buddies on a 300" screen)

Space for table top Role-playing games (Dungeon's and dragons, etc) Magic, Pokemon, yu-gi-oh, Other CCG, Sorry no sweaty men pictures (sports cards)
I am a Magic player and can get DCI certified we need a second judge but i can find one if there is enough interest so we can host Friday night magic or just a sanctioned tournament

While I do encourage having a safe place for kids to play, This will not be a daycare center (IE: I dont want to have to take care of your kids, they will be supervised, but im not a baby sitter) I was thinking age 12+ without a parent...

Please note parents that I greatly encourage you to get into some of the games that your kids are into... Especially the imagination based games (magic, pokemon, D&D, etc)

These games are an excellent platform to interact, encourage growth, and create intellectual stimulus. While spending time with them and having fun.

I am currently wondering if the investment will be worth it. IE do i spend all the money and then have to close up shop? Is this something that we would like to see in our community?

Please Email me with any ideas that you would like to see in a Gaming store

--**Edit**--

Parental involvement is a major thing for me, I wouldn't want my kids going over to a friends house to watch tv or play a game i didnt think appropriate.(dont actually have any but you get where im goin) Its hard to keep tabs on your kids these days. I will be checking with parents before allowing kids to play games with age restrictions, myspace, etc etc etc.
Myspace not ok with you? no problem. I simply block any sites you feel are inappropriate for your child. (Pornographic / illegal & questionable matter - will be blocked anyway)

A note on school work: Something I hadn't even thought of. Absolutely...Great Idea, School work is cheaper than general internet usage 75c/hour if your doing school work
(free with food purchase)
I was already going to use headphones for all the sound (in the back section of the restaurant so we dont want to disturb anyone)
But having systems specifically for that purpose is a great, thank you

Depending on what elements we have, Gaming computers and xbox 360/PS3 are the biggest investments. I am also trying to encourage as much intellectual gameplay as much as possible: magic, pokemon, D&D, yu-gi-oh, chess, risk, games that require some mental cognizance. I am a gamer myself and i know the addiction of video games first hand, so its something i am very conscious of in others (im kinda split on the video game thing. Im considering it only because its a much better option than drugs or trouble making)

Which im willing to make, I just dont want to spend $10,000 have no one show up, and be stuck with the coolest living room around. The main idea here is trying to create a cultural center. Its something I don't see around. I miss it (been in Portland for the last 14 years) and would like to see a place for nerdiness to happen and be encouraged.

Dodgergirl or anyone who knows: Do you know whos planning the gaming store? I would rather combine efforts than compete. Pooled interest = better shop for everyone.

So it will be completely a gaming place. for them to get together with there family or friends and play games. not to get online and chat and sign in on myspace (for the parents who do not let there child have a myspace) or get on sites they are not allowed.

For gaming that would be cool. would you make games available to purchase for our kids. as in guitar hero and such at a good price. to get food and game I like the idea. A clean place for kids to get together and hang out after school, weekends and such. they could go there and hang out on a rainy day during vacation.

I like the idea but I am not hot on the subject of my kids hanging out in Oakhurst though. would you have a area for kids to work on reports and such. or just a game place? Alot of people have computers that crash and need to get there child on a computer to finish there paper.

I can't say to invest all that money or not to in case they shut the doors down. but I would go around and talk to people in town and find out.

I would like to see a place open up in Oakhurst and Coarsegold. but make coarsegold smaller one with computer games and tv games if they want the big screen they have to go to Oakhurst.

I just wouldn't want the drug sceen to take over your store and become a major problem if that makes sense.

that is my thoughts on it.. kinda on the fence about it.... more on the yes side though...

I think it's a great idea, teenagers need a place to go and interact in a positive way. I know another gaming store is planned in the area, so it looks like this is a hot idea currently.

I wish you the best of luck. We do need a game store up here.

We are planning on doing a gaming night here at Oakhurst Computers.. but that will not start until spring or summer. We will have computers setup for rent and people can bring their own PC in. We will probably do this Saturday evenings to start... perhaps Sundays also. We have a lot of people interested. We will have very high end liquid cooled gaming computers available.

We considered having a gaming section, but we just cant find good wholesale prices on games to make it worth while. That may change by the time summer rolls around. We do have the space for a gaming section. It's just a matter of finding a good supplier. As soon as a good supplier comes around, we'll be getting into the game business.

How about a used game and game supply section? Kids connection does this but perhaps a computer store would end up with a better selection? I just spent lots of dough at the Game Stop in Fresno for my son's birthday this weekend ...
