I think Pink and the Indigo Girls are extremely talented musicians!

The song seems directed at Bush because of the video. But It 's a little off the charts when it comes to portraying what the President is able to do or not do...

Did Bush create the homeless? Can he or any president end homelessness?
Did Bush ban a woman's right to choose? Can he or any president change abortion laws?

Isn't a little ridiculous to suggest that he would hate own his daughter IF she were gay?

I'm glad that musicians in this country can write songs like this, but I'm sad when it's applauded.

I applaud it and ask, whom do you say we are suppose to ask? Where do we start? and with whom????

I disagree. The song "simply" asks Mr President some questions~
Honest and valid ones that speak to the heart of anyone who cares or gives darn about many plights that americans live with, suffer under, and lack in their daily lives.
The beginning of this song asks ~ " Dear Mr President take a walk with me...."
" Lets pretend were just TWO people and your not better than me.."
"I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly...."

I for one, have alot of question I MYSELF WOULD LIKE TO ASK our president regarding these very issuess~ IF I HAD THE CHANCE! I dont. BUT! I know somehow, somewhere, he will HEAR this song !!! Which does a great job in its reflection of the video
regarding the heartbreak of this nation, in most of the ways this heartbreak exists. ~! To ask the questions, regarding these issues, whom do you purpose we ask??? AND if never asked~ Then issues will continue on unnoticed and unassisted and unresovled ! No. There is no easy answer to any of them. However, doing nothing is not an answer or acceptible answer or course of lack of action either.

If it takes something as simple as lyrics from a song, to bring to light issues such as these, then more power to them, because the amount of people that they can and do out-reach to can be incredible !

I would like to ask the president what he "sees" when he looks at the homeless on the streets~ does he "SEE" them or through them? or does he even notice them anymore as they are so common place?

I too have other questions I would LOVE to ask our president one on one~ but I cant, so I applaud someone who will ask him, if not face to face, or through song~ the questions that need to be asked ~ :)

I hear you Alpha, and I too like the beginning of the song. It wasn't until it began to attack Bush in particular, and not just the office of the presidency, that I was annoyed.

But even so-
The president is removed from the homeless, the choice issue, marriage. The only power he has in legislation is the Veto power. So the song would have been more in line by adding in dear Mr Senator, and dear Mrs congressman, and continuing on down to dear county supervisor...

As far as how the president "sees" homeless people, heck, how do each of us "see" homeless people? Do you help every homeless person? Do I? Do we figure out how to get them to sleep in shelters and not streets? ( or even offer them shelter in our own homes?) Do you spend all your extra money on the madera rescue mission, or paverello house? do I? how many people give more than an old coat and worn out clothes to the organizations that help the homeless? What more can be done to help the homeless that the president isn't doing?

that's all I'm saying... the questions should be asked by each of us all the time. We should write , call and visit our legislators...we should get involved. Speak up- Horray, Speak up! Then get up and help make your desired changes happen...

And you can write the president too!

Making excuses that it wasn't taken care of by past presidents, etc. is unacceptable. The issue is that the current president is so blind and/or uncaring, the problems still exist and he does nothing. It is HIS responsibility to direct the Senate and House to do something about it, and that something should be to do something besides conduct their useless, EXPENSIVE, endless studies on the problems and DO SOMETHING! If they're not doing THEIR jobs, the HIS responsibility is to call them on it. Bush is useless. His head is in the clouds, he didn't even know we were facing $4 gas, another surprise to Mr. Detached from the real world.

The Republicans are partially to blame for homelessness. They "freed" the mental patients from care facilities so they could become free homeless with little or no prospect of getting jobs. Now they bail out wall street while the low and middle class lose their homes and get put out on the street. Don't insult my intelligence by telling me Bush is just the President he can't do it alone. Did he need congress to bail out wall street? NO he managed that on his own. Just like the FISA bill Bush had the option to sign an extension to "keep us safe" now he wants to blame the democrats because they refuse to grant immunity to the telecoms for breaking the law. Take off the blinders see Bush for vile pitiful excuse for a human he is.
