My wife and I were in Oakhurst last month on a three week vacation. We needed to wash our cloths and found THE WASH HOUSE on the main drag..What a disappointment..we had not used a coin laundry in 28 years and were shocked to see $3.00 for a load and 30 percent of the dryers being out of order and the ones that were in order were not working properly..we really felt bad for the people that needed this service every week.. We really wish for those people locally , that someone would take it upon themselves to report this situation to whoever could do something about it. The cost is excessive and for what it cost the service should be above first rate. But we found the place dirty, excessive in coat and the machines to be dispoportionatly out of order. Haven't been in there, but I know in California rents are high and unfortunately, for a business like that, probably a lot of damage and vandalism to deal with too... probably why so expensive.

That sounds to me like someone is about ready to sell their business for a good price. Might be a good opportunity.

Being a local, and having to use the only coin laundry in town, " The Wash House" ~ I agree! When they first bought it several years ago, they improved the place, cleaned it up, put in some nice green plants for atmosphere I guess? anyway and added newer machines etc. but have since just let it go to (excuse my french here) hell ! in a hand basket . My hubby had to go and wash his work clothes a couple of weeks ago. He has to wear white Tshirts to work. The only dryer available that was working had a sign on it that simply stated ~ "dryer gets hotter than the other dryers" ~ He thinks ok, It wont take as long for them to dry.....wrong! It SCORCHED ALL OF HIS T SHIRT TAN !!! Ruined them!!! I was really upset needless to say~ Half the time the machines dont fill completely with water etc. or are filled with dirt and crud... Its always a hassle to do laundry in town here... and I dont feel like the laundry is clean after spending a fortune to get it done....

the people who own it are the same people who own the sign shop accross the street from it. perhaps someone should drop off these comments.

I believe it sold about 6 months ago - I saw it listed on the MLS over summer...

 That would explain the deteriorating conditions, "slum lord" is one that comes to mind ~
I wouldnt mind dropping off the comments, if I knew who or where the owners were!
Evidently they dont read the "comment" cards left either

I just went back through the MLS and I don't see a sold for this business. But I could swear I remember hearing it sold.

In florida all I have do is is ck the tax appraisers office and put in the address to get the owner.. maybe someone could the info that way.. but I wonder if there is a state public service commission in ca.. that checks to see if the dryers really run the amount of time you are buying and at a set temp.

I am really glad to see that someone locally cares about this.. lets get something done about this..

Ownership is public record... I bet if you looked in Sierra Star, they have to do a DBA public notice sometime right? Then you'd see who the "owner is"... But doesn't tell you how to get ahold of them or does it? If a corporation, then its filed with the Secretary of State...

maybe we should get the police and mayor to do a load of laundry there.. that would solve everything.. I did search the chamber of commerce and TWH was not a member..

We don't have Police or a Mayor. We are not an incorporated city.

Has there been any updates on any improvements? I used to be able to wash my clothes at my parents house, but their washer broke. I need a place to wash my clothes. I gotta be carefull with my work clothes. I am kind of chicken if their washers and dryers are in poor condition.

We were going to stop in there today and just *look*, ( our washer just broke down this last week.) ....
( I would almost opt for washing them in the creek at this point in time, since they ruined so much of the laundry last time we were there!)

If I see any VISIBLE! improvements I will let ya know! but we wont be doing laundry today.......

Cool! Thank you. I have been washing my clothes by hand, but they don't get as clean. I really need to use a washer and dryer.

Isn't there also a laundry mat behind McDonald's?

If there are concerns about getting your money's worth for a service - would the County Weights and Measures people be the ones to contact? They check scales, pumps and other measuring devices, why not timed units? Just a thought... Concerned1

I used to use that one. I never had any problems with them. I wish they were still in business!
