It won't go away! I connected a new mp3 player and the computer thought it was "new hardware" and now that "Found New Hardware MTP Device" box will not go away. Restarting Windows did not help.
Any suggestions?

Never mind. I ran my registry checker, and some anti-virus software, turned the darned thing off for a half hour and things seem to be OK..... for now.

Ah, I am just curious as to what type of MP3 (Digital Audio Player) you have. I noticed you said "MTP" so it'd either be a Zune or an iPod.
If it is an iPod... Sorry to throw this out there, but didn't appear in the forum rules, but you could get rid of the iTunes dependency by either using iPod Linux or Rockbox (Which I prefer). They are both open-source firmwares for the Apple iPod
When you connect the player to any computer, it shows up as a normal hard drive and you can drag and drop your music and play it. Without it being stuck on there forever.
=]
I personally have an iriver h340 (80GB HDD now) with Rockbox, I absolutely love the thing, it gives you more codecs like Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, APE, WavPack, and has a much better equalizer and database, oh and themes.
You can see if your player is compatible by looking at the top of the page.

I got a Sansa Sandisk 200 - Refurbished (http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3402959&Sku=S153-7014).
I like it so far. 4 gigs for $60! Movies, photos, and MP3/MP4.

That's what I've learned to do. It's much faster.

I just wanted something cheap to listen to books I download from librivox.org (http://librivox.org/). The books are free. They're all "public domain" which means they're older, but it's time to listen to all those classics again.
