At long last, a Chinese food restaurant that is authentic and delicious. Hopefully not just beginner's luck, their food surpasses similar restaurants in the area. With all the people in there tonight, perhaps they will find themselves buying out one of the other two places. Not a water chestnut in sight, and they were sold out of chow mien noodles.

Good luck! We've been there three time and havent been served yet. We've waited no less than 20 minutes each time and I think we might have gotten a greeting from a bus boy once. Maybe we'll wait until business dies down a little.

I went Tuesday after work with a friend of mine, around 4pm. the place was about half full and we ordered and got our food in about 10 minutes and the food was great! I loved it!
I'm heading over for lunch today, I'm going to call in my order ahead of time, just in case they are crazy busy at lunch.

We only waited about 10 minutes from order to food also - very good food! Was really pleased. their service will need some polishing - ie., no silverware was given, we had to ask... bus boy brought only one straw for 2 people... that kind of stuff they'll need to learn... But the FOOD - WAS PERFECT!

My hubby and I had lunch there today, and it was fantastic! We ordered from the luncheon specials menu ($7.95); I had the Cashew Chicken which came with soup, fried rice and an eggroll, hubby ordered the pork chow mein (we shared and made great combo plates). We were there at lunch time, and they were packed. We must have been very lucky; a parking place right in front, very quick and friendly service and the best Chinese food that I have had since Chef Lees in Monterey! Loved everything!!!
When settling up our bill the owner took care of us and explained that she and her family operate the restaurant and all live together now; she said that she used to own a restaurant in China. She inquired as to whether we were locals, and gave us a 10% discount card for our next visit. A++++

Hi Iris,
I honestly wouldnt have noticed you if I'd seen you, because I have no clue what you look like. LOL

Me and a friend came in for lunch and sat at the table closest to the bathrooms...that's the only way I can explain it. LOL

Hubby and I are hopeless addicts... We went to town this AM for haircuts, and decided to pick up some pork chow mein, vegie fried rice., etc., etc. to go with the babyback ribs that he BBQ'd last night... WE REALLY MUST STOP THIS... :D

Tonight was the night, it was wall to wall people but the service was quick, the staff was friendly (and we got forks without asking for any, lol) and the food was pretty tasty. I'd definitely go back, but in the meantime got lots of fried rice and sweet and sour tofu that we brought home and Gar brought home the rest of his egg foo young.

Had to go to the grocers and to get gas today (sold my oldest son to pay for all of it and they still made me sign an IOU!) Picked up a DVD player too at Radio Shak cause I've been going nuts with no TV and no way to watch movies since my DVD crashed and burned. Anyway, all that spending money made me hungry, so stopped by Taste of China to try it out. LOVED IT! Had the lunch special of sweet and sour pork with fried rice and egg roll. It was excellent, meat not too lean and dried out like some of the Asian restaurants have gotten to be. Liked the sauce and the soup too. Got some plain fried WonTons for dessert, LOL. And best of all, found that they sell boxes of the tea that I love and hadn't been able to find since the Village in Madera went out of business. Will definitely be going back, ate every last bit and am still so stuffed I'm not sure I'll be able to eat any dinner, which isn't a bad thing, LOL Oh yeah, and the hostess saw me hobbling up to the door (arthritis) and rushed over to open the door for me! Don't get that kind of service many places, in fact can't remember the last time a restaurant did that for me. She, the waitress and everyone there were sooooooooo nice.

A couple of us grabbed a bite at The Taste of China restaurant yesterday after seeing Sex and the City. We had all heard rave reviews so we had to check it out.

It was good, prices are fair, I will eat there again. But to be honest it was pretty standard as far as chinese food goes--better than some worse than others. I do agree with Ironhorse about the taste and texture of the sweet and sour pork; it was not chewy and dried out.

Let me put it this way---if I were on vacation and happened to eat there...it would not be one of the most memorable places I had eaten while on holiday, but a place that would have made me happy/satisfied.

To be completely fair though---a lot of the things I like to order at chinese food places were not on their menu, and I did say I WILL eat there again.

Well, I have only eaten there one time so far. I would go back, too, but not because I found the food to be memorable. The service was great and I was very hungry, and while the food was nothing like what I expected, it wasn't "bad." I will have to try a few more dishes to make up my mind, but for a quick, small, late-afternoon bite it was okay and I am sure I will like my next meals there. I will save my raves, though, for Lee's Garden in Marina as the absolute best Chinese food I have ever had, by far. And best prices, too! But that's at the coast, not here, so.......no sense raving about it.

I just ate there today. I was there about noon and it was busy. I had my food within 10 minutes of entering the door.

As others here, I found it to be the standard fare. Nice, but not memorable. The sweet and sour sauce on the pork was the standard that comes in a big plastic bottle... which is kind of what I expected. One thing though; there was more pork than veggies. I found the portions to be just right, the service fast, and the prices fair.

I'll be going back.:2tu:

What a change. We have been to Taste of China 3 or 4 times. The first couple of times, we were waited on my teenagers that actually wrote our bill in Chinese, which I don't read. Today, the waiters were older, wrote in English & did a fantastic job. I have been in 5 star places where the waiters were less attentive, helpful quick, accurate and pleasant. They never let our glasses drop below half. The order was correct & hot. By the way, do try their lemon chicken. I still miss Rice Man's crispy fried rice with green onions but theirs was very good. When we left, every employee including the cook's thanked us profusely & requested our return.

I was told that these are the same people who owned the Szechuan place up the road and were forced out by high rent payments. I was told they just re-located. Is there any truth to this?

No it is not the same people that owned Schezuan. Though the rest of that, the rent stuff, is spot on.

Nope, not the same, I recently talked with the owner of szechuan and she told me that they aren't go to reopen anytime soon, because of the economy.

The people who own taste of china are my neighbors, they recently moved here from Nevada. Very nice people!

I've been to Taste of China several times and I always enjoy myself. Love the service! My favorites are still the Sweet and Sour Pork and the pot stickers.

I do take out for lunch often. Main dish, rice, soup and a egg roll for 6 or 7 dollars - a great deal and taste great too. I love the sweet and sour pork, and the broccoli beef. Will try the lemon chicken next.

I just wanted to post that I hadn't been there in awhile, just like most, I am not spending a lot of money to eat out these days,
But last night I didn't want to cook,

So, I called in my order, it was ready in about 10 minutes, the staff was super friendly and For less than $30 I got a full meal for 4 and have leftovers for work today and still lots left in the fridge for when I want more!

It was sooo yummy! Even my daughter raved about how much she liked it, and we all know how picky teenagers can be, especially vegitarian ones.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Is that the one in von's shopping center or the one on 41?

Mysteefied

It's in the Vons shopping center, next to Round Table Pizza

We like it too, food is good and service and staff are very nice. That one on 41 on the left going north is just terrible. No cars in their parking lot. The people who were there before were very good, lost their lease. I heard these people who opened up were the holders of the lease from SF and they opened their own restaurant. Not sure if that is true or not. I know the old restaurant owners were very upset and sad to leave.

We ate at Taste of China last night. Food was excellent as always, and now they have beer and wine. Don't expect too much from the wine list, but the beer selection is good, and the Korea beef was killer!

Haven't been to the Taste of China since it had changed hands, but "The Jade" in my opinion is really good. Enough food for days!
