I would love to see an OF team put together. Since being recently diagnosed with Cancer, I still have alot to learn. The relay was such a great experience for me, I hope we can make this work!

I'd love to do it if it would work around my crazy work schedule!
I gave at my work to this - and writing out a luminaria in honor of my Grandfather who died of Lung Cancer.
But I'd love to sponsor the Oakhurst team next year. They people at work got to me first (about 2 months ago) this year - I'm sorry!

You can count me in. I have been signed up with the survivor team in the past, but I would love to walk with OF.
I got a big hug from Nascar at the event this year! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wave.gif

It would be really cool if we could be possibly a Silver or Bronze sponsor and have the OF name put on the survivor t-shirts.

It would be really cool if we could just do good things for others without
having to run around telling everyone about it.

Thats right Myst! And I think that when we do something for someone, and we are just floored by the persons response, comments etc.. we just have to share with others. Warm fuzzies are ALWAYS a good thing!

I understand Electro's point as well....but right now as far as I'm concerned any idea Nascar has with this thing is a go.

In this case, the point of telling everyone about it is to raise money for a cure ...

If I may put in my two cents, I think there are a couple of different interpretations here concerning what "telling everyone about it" means.
One way of looking at it is to just get some publicity and awareness spread around so the fund-raiser will be more successful. I would venture to guess that everyone on these forums would think that is good.
Another way of looking at it would be to say that yes, the publicity for Relay for Life is a good thing, but is it really necessary to have Oakhurst Forums recognized on a tee shirt? Or really, to even form an OF team?
It would probably be just as effective, fund-raiser wise, for any OF members who are interested, to join up with already existing teams or maybe even just volunteer to help behind the scenes with set-up and clean-up, sign-ups, etc., or donate money, food, bottled water, whatever.
Maybe it would just be a lot more fun to get a team together and have yet another OF "event," but then you have to think about what is the real motivation there.
I am all for encouraging people to work for a cause, but I can also see that it really doesn't need to be an OF group project with the usual newspaper articles or tee shirts, or whatever public recognition the forums would get as a sponser. It just seems sort of like, "Hey, everybody, look at us and see how great we are!" What did Yosemite Wolf call it ... "warm fuzzies"?
But then again, I do not have a group type of personality, so perhaps I just don't understand the appeal of doing everything as one unit. I do a lot of helping and donating but there are ample opportunities for me to do such things on my own. I don't like the recognition because it isn't why I help or donate and being praised for selfless acts makes me very uncomfortable.
Having said all that, I do realize that my views on the matter are no doubt very unpopular and that is fine ... majority rules, eh? It just seems that everything tends to turn into another OF group thing.
My unpopular attitude is no big surprise when you stop to think that my life is (by choice) a lot like the Green Day song lyrics, "My shadow's the only one that walks beside me."
Have fun, tee shirts or not.

Yup, it is amazing that a group of people got together online & like each other enough to want to participate together in events like this...
I don't see anything wrong with (well, since it was planned on OAF) a group coming from OAF and creating a "team".
The beauty of it is, if you don't wanna participate, we'll still accept you for who you are... alt ID's included...and love you just the same.
We had a group camping trip last year, it was just a bunch of friends getting together, but those friends met on OAF. We can't pretend like it isn't here... That would be silly.
As for T Shirts, I'd much rather donate the $$ to the cause, but I am a sucker for a T., we'd most likely get them donated by a sponsor who has already allotted $$ to the cause.
Oh, and wait until you see the Official OAF car for the Derby this Sept...

I'll add that I think the locals may be more generous to a group with the town name on it. If I wanted recognition, my T-shirt would say "Kim is walking" and I'd EM Cindy Suryan at the hospital and have her film me as I did interpretive dance during water breaks.

what I've noticed at Relay for life is that the teams form, they raise money for the cause, usually the teams wear the t-shirt for RFL and they have a booth set up, with their name on it, the different teams, sort of challenge each other and have games and that sort of team, it's just adding a little fun to the event and doing it for a good cause, I see no harm whatsoever in it.
