I still see no change in gas prices in the mountains, in the last three weeks gas in the Bay Area has come down 10 cents, but still no change in Oakhurst or surrounding areas, I'm now paying $2.03 a gallon in the Bay Area and Oakhurst Vons was $2.26.
Except there is one place within miles of Coarsegold and that is the only place in the mountains that offer a fair price for gas at $2.04 but most don't know where it is http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif

I think he's talking about the ARCO inbetween the ROad for Children's HOspital and where the 41 traffic light turns into freeway vs highway... coming from the mountains, you turn right at the light like you are headed to Madera, then flip a left on the frontage road heading towards Fresno - its on the right... I stop there on the way home from work for gas sometimes...
Gas in Fresno at Union 75 Nees/First was 2.14 - Shell on Blackstone by Home Depot/Costco 2.11... yesterday...

Coming home from San Jose yesterday I filled up in Manera for $2.059 a gallon. There was one other station at that price and it was right across the street.

I paid $1.99/gal a few days ago. I took advantage of the price and filled up. I always fill up anyways I guess unless the prices are outrageous.

While coming home from San Jose I saw gas prices ranging ranging from the 2.05 I paid , up tp 2.27 a gallon. The independent station were the cheapest. The company stations were all much higher which is probably why Texaco and Chevron made record profits over their last quarter.

It won't. Last night on the news (I just caught the tail end of it, so don't know what "event" will cause the rise) they said prices will be going back up again. Then they said "maybe" the prices will start going back down again after the "summer traveling season". Duh!! So what else is new? http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif

Usually I hear the explanation for higher gas prices (or groceries and other merchandise) up here is that the stuff "has to be trucked up here," and that is why it costs more. Hmmm ... I wonder how other places in California get THEIR gas and merchandise delivered? Somebody could argue "Well, it doesn't get trucked as FAR as our stuff does," but are we really THAT remote and isolated? I don't think so.

Im my buisness the Fresno Stoves stores Sell at a higher price that we do for the same product. on average $200 over list price. Go figure.
But we do pay $45 -$75 more to get stoves sent up to us because it has to be interlined through the local trucking company.
Conway western is the only trucking company that comes up here with out interlining but the cost is the same.
Now if something cost me up to $40 less in Fresno I will not drive down to get it because it cost that much in gas and a lot more in my time.
and the cost of a Bullit proof Vest.

Just got off the phone with one of my suppliers in Western Canada she said gas is .85/9 per Litter Canadian dollor.
that works out $0.6385 US per liter.
there is 0.2642 to a liter
3.785011355034065 liters make a gallon
Canadian Dollor to US is 0.7512
so that makes Canadian gas about
$2.42 per gallon.

British pound = 1.8225 US
$1.4945 Pound to US converts to $1.4945 Per litter
there is 0.2642 to a liter
3.785011355034065 liters make a gallon
so that makes Berry's gas about
$5.64 per gallon US$.

Oil prices keep on rising
Light crude and Brent set fresh record highs on strong demand in China and a U.S. refinery fire.
August 13, 2004: 1:45 PM EDT
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Oil prices set fresh new highs on Friday, underpinned by fresh evidence of strong Chinese demand, worries about sabotage in Iraq and fears of unrest in Venezuela, where President Hugo Chavez faces a referendum this weekend on his presidency.
News of an explosion at BP's Whiting, Indiana refinery also helped push U.S. light crude above $46 a barrel, a new all-time record high on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
U.S. light crude for September delivery jumped to as high as $46.35 a barrel but at around 1:15 p.m. ET, it backed off slightly to trade at $45.96, up from a record close of $45.50 on Thursday. The prior intraday high was also set in the previous session at $45.75.

If we all bought Hi-bred cars, we wouldn't need so much gas, then they'd have surplus, and they'd lower prices... but then they'd just stop producing so much and price gouge again...
Go solar!!! Then we don't have to worry about it.
BUt then they say we'd ruin the foundation of our economy ... they need the gas to keep flowin...

why are gas prices going lower while the barrel at its highest peak????
MSN:
First off, U.S. gasoline refiners have been operating at near-record levels -- nearly 94 percent of capacity -- in recent months, so gasoline stockpiles have easily accomodated the demand.
We had such great prices and great (profit) margins for refiners that they ran as hard as they could in the second quarter and produced a tremendous amount of product -– one of the strongest quarters ever,” said Jacques Rousseau, an oil analyst with Friedman, Billings Ramsey & Co. in Houston.
Higher gasoline prices earlier in the year also damped down demand for gas. Now, with the summer driving season winding down, gasoline dealers have lots of gas to sell, which is helping to forces prices lower. The nationwide average price of a gallon of regular unleaded has fallen from more than $2 per gallon in May to an average of $1.80 to $1.90 per gallon during the past 6 or 7 weeks.
The big build-up of gasoline inventories isn't likely to continue. For one thing, the huge profits margins that spurred the surge in production -- and reaped big profits for refiners -- are begining to narrow. For another, refiners can't operate flat-out for long without having to shut down for maintenance. And by late summer, refiners typically begin diverting more capacity to build up inventories of heating oil to get ready for winter. (Those inventories are at about average levels for this time of year.)
Those factors, coupled with the recent, sudden run-up in crude oil prices, could halt the trend of declining gasoline prices.

I paid $2.06 a gallon at the Mobil Station next door to the $1.97 a gallon Arco Station on the 41 frontage road...
For the convenience of no one else at the station (my pick of the pumps) and credit card at the pump (didn't have to walk to the inside, be tempted by all that candy, stand in line and no trip to the ATM later in the day) ... but I didn't realize til I was pumping it was more than a 3 cent a gallon difference... ok - so I paid $1.35 more for the convenience... it was worth it. I'm in a hurry in the mornings.

“Oil nears key $50-a-barrel mark
Fresh violence in Iraq has seen oil prices surge to new records, nearing $50 a barrel.
New York light crude reached $49.27 a barrel for the first time in European trading, following reports of a new attack on an Iraqi oil pipeline.“
“Analysts warn that prices could go much higher still.
"Oil at $70 is entirely conceivable," for example if "there is a big supply problem and Iraq and Venezuelan oil came off the market", said Bruce Evers, an oil expert with Investec.”

No problem here ....lol
Look at California house bill AB 148 .....
a summary until I find the link ....
They want to lower demands in California for Gas...So the first proposal came in and was voted on ...
A 50 cent a gallon gas tax ... plus a 2 cent a mile tax on each mile driven not for business purposes ...
The same author of the bill proposes ... a 43 cent a gallon tax to cover all Californians in insurance ...
Wow ... you think we have enough business flight now ???

Some mucky muck dealing with fuel supplies in Washington on the news last night said that prices should start going down soon (yeah, where have I heard that before) and that the prices now are too high and don't reflect what's going on with the market, or something to that effect, gee, do ya think? Big gas price surge soon? and we saw it coming..
Report says pump prices could shoot up by about 25 cents a gallon in coming days to new record.
March 4, 2005: 8:11 AM EST
Gasoline prices could rise by about quarter a gallon in the coming days to new record levels, according to a published report Friday.
USA Today, quoting energy experts and analysts, reported that a gain of 24 to 28 cents a gallon is possible as stations scramble to keep up with recent increases in oil and wholesale gasoline prices.
An increase of 24 cents a gallon would put the average retail price of a gallon of regular gas at about $2.16 a gallon, according to the Energy Information Agency, the Department of Energy unit that tracks prices. The EIA's survey put the average price at $1.928 in Monday's survey, up 2.3 cents from a week earlier.
The EIA's earlier record of $2.02 a gallon for regular was hit in May of 2004.
Oil prices hit $55.20 a barrel in trading Thursday, which was within 47 cents of record intra-day levels for crude oil. But prices retreated about $2 a barrel since that high. Gasoline futures set a record at $1.5450 a gallon.
The paper reported that even higher prices could be ahead as increased warm weather driving pushes up demand.
Tom Kloza, senior analyst at the Oil Price Information Service, told the paper that retail gasoline prices lag increases in wholesale prices since Christmas by about 25 to 28 cents a gallon. He says he believes the record prices won't come until the latter half of March.
But Peter Beutel, president of energy tracking firm Cameron Hanover, said a spike of 24 cents a gallon could happen in the coming days.
"It's going to be brutal, horrendous," he told the paper.

VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Seeking to cool market sentiment, the head of OPEC on Sunday said the organization is "concerned" about stubbornly high prices that defy what he described as a well-supplied market and adequate crude stocks worldwide.
The statement by Sheik Ahmad Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah, OPEC's president and secretary general, was issued as a clear attempt to dampen speculative buying that last weak briefly drove prices above $55 a barrel. Prices settled by week's end to above $53.
More bullish oil was poured on the fire on Saturday, when Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said that OPEC countries could fix a price for crude in a range of $40 to $50 per barrel, adding that low petroleum prices were a thing of the past.
Chavez's comments came ahead of a crucial OPEC meeting in Iran later this month. Some analysts are expecting the cartel to cut production to boost oil prices, which have skyrocketed over the past year on supply worries.
Al-Sabah, in contrast, suggested present prices were too high, considering market fundamentals.
"Increased investment in commodities by speculators has caused further sizable upward pressure on prices," said the statement, issued by OPEC headquarters in the Austrian capital.
Other factors for the surge included the late winter cold snap in the Northern Hemisphere; unexpected outages downstream at wells and port facilities; expectations of continued strong demand, "and ongoing concerns about the slowdown in the pace of growth" by non-OPEC suppliers, he said.
"OPEC is committed to maintaining stability and ensuring that global markets remain well supplied at all times," Al Sabah said.
When OPEC ministers meet March 16, in Isfahan, Iran, "we shall review the prevailing market outlook to ensure market stability at reasonable price," he said, adding that the organization's present spare capacity - at 2 million barrels a day - will reach a daily 3 million barrels by year's end.
That comment clearly was geared to counter concerns that there was little unused output capacity at a time of generally robust world economic growth.
Crude oil futures settled at $53.78 on Friday, and analysts said global supply tightness is likely to persist through the year due to economic expansion that so far seems only marginally slower than in 2004.
It was unclear whether OPEC's comments would affect the markets Monday.
U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow, in an interview Sunday with the ABC television show "This Week," described the high prices as "attacks on the economy."
While the American economy has ridden the wave of surging prices, "clearly these energy prices create headwinds," he said.
The record close on the New York Mercantile Exchange was set last October at $55.17 a barrel, although prices would have to surpass $90 a barrel to meet the inflation-adjusted peak set in 1980.
Because crude sells worldwide for U.S. dollars, and because the currency has lost 8 percent of its value against the euro in the last four months, OPEC nations have signaled support for higher oil prices as a hedge to ensure their buying power in Europe does not fall too much.

LONDON (Reuters) - Oil fell to a seven-week low near $50 on Wednesday, after the U.S. government reported a ninth straight weekly rise in crude inventories, and a build in gasoline stocks ahead of summer.
U.S. crude oil futures slid $1.26 to $50.60 a barrel, deepening Tuesday's 3 percent decline and hitting the lowest level since February 22. London Brent was down $1.08 at $50.90.

Fresno-area diesel fuel runs short
Prices near $3 a gallon for critical harvest season.
By E.J. Schultz / The Fresno Bee
(Updated Tuesday, August 9, 2005, 7:17 AM)
A major diesel terminal in Fresno ran dry last week, sending area diesel prices on Monday to a record high $2.97 a gallon on average and bringing more pain to truckers and farmers who have been reeling from higher prices for most of the year.
"It's like the perfect storm," said wholesale fuel distributor Scott Cain. "You've got demand at seasonal highs, you've got refinery problems, and you've got $63 [a barrel] crude oil."
Supplies have been cut statewide since a July 20 fire shut down portions of a Chevron Corp. refinery in El Segundo.
"Ever since then, diesel has been skyrocketing," said Cain, vice president of West Hills Oil in San Joaquin and an economics instructor with the University of Phoenix in Fresno.
A year ago, diesel prices were $2.25 a gallon on average, and as recently as a month ago the price was $2.65 a gallon, 32 cents cheaper than today, according to AAA. Regular gasoline cost an average of $2.63 a gallon on Monday, a jump of 10 cents in the past month.
Diesel was flowing again Monday at the Fresno terminal, but Cain still was worried.
"Are they going to run out again Thursday — who knows?" he said.
Located near the intersection of Maple and Central avenues in southeast Fresno, the terminal is the only independently operated diesel storage facility serving the Fresno region. It is owned and operated by Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, one of the nation's largest pipeline and terminal operators.
Company spokesman Rick Rainey said nothing is wrong with the terminal, just that shipments have declined, he said.
Rainey could not comment on future diesel availability at the terminal because refineries "don't tell us what the status of their refineries [is]."
Chevron expects to have the El Segundo plant in Southern California at full production in about a week, according to a company statement.
Chevron does not supply diesel to Fresno from El Segundo, instead using supplies from a refinery in Richmond in the Bay Area, Chevron spokesman Michael Barrett said.
Indeed, Fresno gets most of its diesel from Northern California, said David Hackett, an industry consultant at Stillwater Associates in Irvine.
But the problems at the El Segundo plant caused shortages here because Bay Area facilities began shipping more fuel to Southern California, he said.
"Fresno is essentially the end of the pipeline," he said.
The supply shortage and rising prices couldn't come at a worse time for central San Joaquin Valley truckers and farmers, who are in the middle of the peak growing and shipping season.
"It's a major, major problem," said Ross Siragusa, president and CEO of the California Tomato Growers Association in Stockton.
Siragusa said 10 million tons — 400,000 truckloads — of tomatoes are trucked from California's tomato fields each year.
"The canners have a huge problem," he said, because they generally pick up the cost of moving the tomatoes.
With the Fresno terminal short on diesel, truckers who deliver fuel to growers, dairies and trucking companies have made runs to Bakersfield.
"It really puts a bind on us and it puts a bind on them," said Ray Turner, who drives a truck for distributor J.C. Lansdowne of Visalia.
Turner visits the Fresno terminal about two or three times a day to fill his truck, which can hold 2,000 gallons of fuel.
In the past two weeks, the terminal has been dry three times, including Friday, he said.
"Usually this time of year is not a problem," Turner said, as he waited to fill his truck Monday.
Tight supplies have led to "panic buying," said California Energy Commission spokesman Rob Schlichting, adding that some companies in recent days boosted fuel purchases by 50%.
He expects supplies to recover soon.
But other forces could keep prices high, including rising demand and higher crude oil prices. The price for a barrel of crude oil increased $1.63 on Monday to a record $63.94.
"The big picture is that worldwide diesel demand has been strong because of the strong economy," Hackett said. "In many respects, the economy is diesel-powered."
Golden Key Express of Clovis uses diesel to fuel its fleet of six trucks that haul vehicles coast-to-coast for people who are moving. Clients include doctors and executives.
With the job market improving, "we're busier than we've ever been," said owner Harold White, speaking from a cell phone as he drove back to Clovis from Los Angeles. "They seem to always be moving to get a better job."
So far, the company has passed fuel costs along to customers. The price to move a car across country increased by $200 in the past year, to between $1,000 and $1,200 a car, White said.
But if the economy slows, the company might not be able to continue passing along costs.
"If the demand slowed down, I'd basically just have to park the trucks," he said.
Truckers and farmers aren't the only ones affected by the high prices. Consumers with diesel-powered vehicles also are feeling the pain.
Robert Johnson filled his luxury motor home with diesel at a gas station in southeast Fresno on Monday for $3.05 a gallon. He watched the pump ring up $277 for nearly 91 gallons.
"It's more, but what are you going to do?" he said. "It's just the way it is."
Bee staff writer Dennis Pollock contributed to this report. The reporter can be reached at eschultz@fresnobee.com or (559) 441-6637.
Ray Turner of J.C. Lansdowne in Visalia waits in line to fill up his truck with diesel fuel at the Kinder Morgan terminal in Fresno on Monday afternoon. In the past two weeks, the terminal has been dry three times, he said.

While most of these are common sense, the list below may contain a helpful money/gas saving tip or two.
Top 25 Ways to Save at the Pump. Hope this is helpful to you (My biggest gas saver has been to just slow down. I tend to run late and end up driving like a bat outta h*//)
Find the places near you that offer the cheapest gas and shop there first. (Resources: Cheap Gas, Gas Buddy, Gas Price Watch)
Check your tire pressure. Under-inflated tires require more energy to roll. The placard on the inside drivers door is where you'll find the correct tire pressure (usually about 28 PSI). Consider replacing worn tires with Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) tires.
Fill up on weekdays—because prices usually rise on the weekend. The cheapest times to buy gas are typically Tuesday midday or Wednesday morning.
Fill up at night because pumps deliver more gas when temperatures are lower.
Buy gas from busy gas stations. Stations that are consistently busy have their tanks refilled regularly, which means the fuel is more likely to be fresh. Fresh gas has more power than gas that has become contaminated by sitting in infrequently used tanks.
Avoid gas stations near freeways, however, because prices are often higher there.
Don't overbuy. Unless your owner's manual says you must use a higher grade (which very few cars actually do), buy regular gasoline. Costlier high-octane gas does not improve the performance of your vehicle.
Avoid topping off. When you purchase just a bit of gas at the gas station the pump doesn’t have enough time to really activate, resulting in short bursts of fuel that may short change you from the amount of gas that you are purchasing.
Avoid running on empty. You may think you're using very little gas when your car is on empty, but you're actually using more gas because your vehicle is running less efficiently as it tries to accelerate and decelerate in a normal fashion. The best time to replenish your gas tank is when you have half a tank or less left, or when you find a gas price that you just can’t pass up.
Carpool whenever possible. Carpoolers often share the cost of gas, and the wear'n'tear on your vehicle is reduced as well.
Combine trips. Several short trips taken from a cold start can use twice as much fuel as one trip covering the same distance when the engine is warm.
Choose your vehicle wisely. If you own more than one vehicle, drive the one that gets better mileage whenever you have the option.
Choose your route wisely. Take the route with the flattest terrain and fewest stops. Try to avoid traffic jams and stop and go traffic.
Slow down. Driving at posted speed limits saves fuel and lives. Each 5 mph over 60 mph is like paying an additional 10 cents per gallon. Use cruise control to maintain your speed.
Avoid sudden stops and starts. Erratic acceleration and braking can waste up to 50 cents a gallon.
Avoid idling. If you have to sit in your car for more than one minute, shut off the engine.
Limit air conditioning, which consumes fuel. At lower speeds, open the windows or sunroof to stay cool. At higher speeds, use the car’s fan instead (open windows create drag that reduces mileage).
Park in the shade. This minimizes fuel evaporation and helps keep your car cool in the summer.
Lighten your load. Don’t carry around items you don’t need. For every 100 pounds of weight in your car, fuel economy decreases by one to two percent. Put heavy items in the trunk instead of on a roof rack, which creates drag.
Keep your gas cap on tight. Tightening the gas cap on your car will prevent gas from evaporating and escaping into the air. If you've lost your gas cap, buy a new one ASAP.
Change your oil, spark plugs, and air filter on schedule. And go to a repair shop if your “Check Engine” light comes on—a faulty oxygen sensor could be the cause, lowering your mileage significantly.
Use the recommended grade of motor oil, preferably one with "energy conserving" on the label. Gas mileage could improve 1-2 percent.
Get a tune-up. A simple tune-up on your car can improve your gas mileage by an average of 4.1 percent.
Look into discount gas card offers. Shell, Gulf, BP-Amoco, Exxon-Mobile, and others have rebate programs that offer as much as 5-10 percent off the gas you buy.
Track your average mileage and have your car checked if the average decreases. To calculate your mileage, note the odometer reading and number of gallons purchased each time you fill up. Divide the number of miles traveled between fill-ups by the number of gallons purchased.

$3.25 at Von's and Chevron just now, and $3.47 at Kwik Serve. Didn't go up the road to see what the others were yet. Kwik Serve is as good as price gouging as far as I'm concerned. No wonder there's never anybody in there. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif

It was 3.199 a gallon for regular unleaded at Vons Gas today. $30 for under 10 gallons...what a crock! Only 1/2 a tank. I remember when I could fill my tank for $10...back in the early 90's.

I'll bet people's work-related mileage allowances don't go up, when they have to use their own cars on assignments. It's entirely possible that a business person could end up losing money while working.

And just think of that FINE re-imbursement that you get for jury duty, if you get picked for the jury. I sent an e-mail to the court and the BOS that now, more than ever is a reason to stop the crock of sending people down the hill for jury duty and valley people up here for jury duty.

I hear everybody is tacking on fuel surcharges to compensate for the insane price increases.

Yep, almost every vendor is tacking on a $2-$3 surcharge. Kinda makes me crazy when I am ordering tens of thousands of dollars of food/liquor/etc every month.

Yup, I can't tell you how many people have been yelling at me this past week at work, I don't control the shipping prices. The prices to ship something have gone up considerably. Unfortunatly me and my co-workers get yelled at for it, I seriously have anxiety going to work. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/bonk.gif

What's strange to me is I have a friend in North Carolina who said gas prices have dropped .13/gal to $2.77 this week. And in Chicago, ILL, another friend said gas dropped .10/gal to $2.89
