My wife and I frequent Bass Lake (have a house there) and wonder if there are any hiking clubs in the area. We have done Goat Mtn, and Lewis creek, but would like to hike with a group of people. Any idea's?
Thx

There is a group that has mention in the Sierra Star every week of where they hike. I've never joined them, but it sounds like what you are looking for.

The Sierra Hiking Seniors. Don't let the "senior" part fool you. The Friday hikes are easier than the Monday hikes. They still hike fast though. Nice people. I've hiked with them several times. They are mentioned in the papers around here. Just show up and hike. No membership involved.
I'm thinking of starting a hiking club - Saturday, Local Only Walkers, or SLOW. I like to hike slow and smell the flowers. Hiking fast only gets you to the end of the trail sooner. I don't want the hike to end sooner. The trail is my goal, not the end of the trail.:D

Sign me up! I've learned a lot of great hikes from a friend who has been up here forever... I go mostly on Monday or Tuesdays, but that will change when school starts in a couple weeks... sometimes I have my grandson with me (he has his own walking stick) and we not only stop and smell the flowers, we stop and examine all sorts of things. I think the favorite so far was the ice plant near Lewis Creek, or the odd stone markers up in Wawona.

It seems I'll have to get off my rear and get that club started. People just hike to fast. If you want exercise, get a tread mill. rolleyes: I want to be outside, enjoying nature, meeting new people, trying to ID a new flower, or trying to remember the name of an old one. If you rush along the trail you'll miss just how amazing and awesome nature really is.

Thanks for the replies. The Senior group on Monday sounds great. I like to "smell the flowers ( and look at mushrooms too )", but I need the exercise. We like a moderate pace. I spend too much time on this computer. My hind quarters has the shape of the chair (and it's not pretty sight lol!. We hike with a senior group here in San Jose (55+), but some of those people can hike 7-10 miles without a problem at a good clip. No matter what the speed, people who hike are interesting. We're in our late 50's.

They are good people. If I remember, one of the younger guys is a Marine. Did you meet up with him?

Where did you go and what did you see?
When is the next mosey-type hike?
Thanks
