A little bit of Cabo in Fresno? Soon, there will be.

“Cabo Wabo”, Sammy Hagar’s costal Mexican cantina, will open its doors in just a few weeks.

If you've driven by the “Granite Park” development near Hwy 168 and Ashlan, where "Cabo Wabo" will be, it's evident that construction is moving right along. But getting to that point hasn't been easy.

“Given the complexity of it and how big it actually is and how construction works, it has had a couple of hurdles we've had to overcome”, said special events coordinator, Alex Costa.

“Cabo Wabo” will feature more than 170 tequilas, three bars, a DJ and a dance floor.Chefs have been brought in from all over the country to develop the menu.

“Common is not good enough anymore and they're trying to stand the social and culinary landscape of Fresno on its head and provide something that hasn't existed in this city before,” Costa said.

The restaurant and bar will employ about 150 people, most of those local hires.

Costa said the idea is to create a place where people want to work and spend their free time. “Really this about community, it’s about development of relationships and building something lasting that everyone can come and enjoy, regardless of the times.”

But, it doesn't stop with “Cabo Wabo”.

Right next door, scheduled to open in September, is a place called “Memphis Blues”- a Cajun seafood house, featuring jazz music

Then in October, a Russian themed restaurant and ice vodka bar called "Red" will open.

A theme park is also currently under construction. It will feature more than 30 rides, including a roller coaster that used to be at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

That part of the development is slated to open sometime in the spring of 2009.
