Where is this?
Is this in the area of Chilkoot Lake on Beashore Rd I called the Pines and they said this is the one that is now 100% contained. They were pulling water from Bass Lake to suppress.

It could very well have been the same fire...since fire in distance is so hard to guage up here as to exactly where one is..... ~ The first smoke of the fire could be seen while climibing the grade there~ CDF trucks and the sheriffs dept were looking up the roads on RD 222 at the top of Chepo and also looking out Cowboy Trail or Lane- Chepo Saddle, Is the top of that small grade ~ after Old Corral Store and before you reach the other side, where the road Y's off into 274 just before the court house ~

Thanks for the info !

Your welcome.
We are really nervous too, its just so darned dry and hot, and the fires take off and grow so fast! Our local fire crews are doing an excellent job of getting right on them and not sparing any and all they have for resources to quickly get the upper hand.

They still deserve our high praise  for the commendable jobs they are doing, ~ and we still have a ways to go yet, before we are out of fire season~ and we can relax a bit .

Isn't anybody worried about the possible arsonist in Oakhurst.
I posted another topic but hardly anyone responded.
We have had 8 since last Monday. All suspicious starts and in the Indian Lakes - Big Oak Flat Road South areas ...

I'm sure everyone is concerned about suspicious fires. And I'm sure everyone is keeping an eye out for suspicious people/vehicles. Not much good guessing as to the next "target" or who might be doing it until someone comes up with some solid leads that aren't rumor or gossip (not saying anything is at this point). Sometimes talking about arsonists too much just "buys" into their desire for the adrenaline rush they get from the fires, their feelings of self importance and the knowledge that people are panicking about their actions. If the fires are arsons, then CDF needs to make that information known to the public. If they haven't, maybe they're already on the trail of the supects and don't want to tip them. In the meantime, we put our faith in a group of very good firefighters.

i heard that the fire on 426 last week was caused by a teen that threw a cig into a dry bush. a few teens were contained and questioned. i think its too soon to say there is an arsonist. just dry shrub waiting to burn. its time to clear the property one last time before winter. we need rain.

Agree with you Ironhorse.
We had our first neighborhood meeting after meeting with CDF.

We definitely have an arsonist and CDF has asked those of us who have met with them at the sites to assist with being vigiliant.

And let me add here... I encouraged folks at the meetings to not assume it is any one type of profile of age, person, etc.... we need to watch all suspicious activity in order not to create a blind spot for ourselves and miss something.

I live in North Fork and Thursday I could smell smoke, then Friday it was stronger. The whole area was covered with smoke but I couldn't tell where it is coming from. Anyone have any info on where it is coming from?

There is a fire in Sequoia that has crossed over into the Sierra National Forest. Here is the URL for the latest information:
http://www.inciweb.org/incident/1473/

"The Tehipite Fire has grown to 2,431 acres according to a mapping and monitoring mission conducted Thursday evening. Of that acreage, 1,852 acres are within Kings Canyon National Park and 579 acres are within the Sierra National Forest.

The park and the forest are working in unified command with shared objectives to manage the fire.

High elevation smoke from this fire is visible in the foothills and the Central Valley. Fire managers are monitoring smoke emissions and working closely with the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

There are no immediate threats to life or property. Firefighters on the Sierra are taking steps to protect the Deer Meadow cabin and the Johnson Meadow cabins. As a safety measure:

* The trail between Simpson Meadow and the park boundary remains closed
* The Blue Canyon Trail is closed at the park boundary

Thanks for the info! I was a little worried. I woke up this afternoon to my bedroom smelling like smoke. I was worried it was somewhere around here. I just hope they can get it out soon!
