I have a sure fire spot that always does well for me. Head north on Hwy 41, turn right when you see the large pine tree on the right, About 8 miles before you reach the end of the dirt road make a left and head down that road until you pass where the old Johnson place used to be. Go about 300 yards further and then down to the creek, You will see a rock at the creeks edge. I have done well there http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

I think finding a legal gold panning area is getting harder all the time. There are claims all over the place, private property issues, etc.

There is a place along Hwy 41 just north of the Campora Propane facility on the right hand side where I see many people during spring and summer panning. I think it is allowed there. There are places to pull off the side of the road and park. That is about the only place I know of. I have a neighbor that dredges and pans all the time but he is member of a club that allows him access to various claims that the club owns. If you want further info I can get it for you. And don't listen to Yosemite Sam who posted above, he is just a bitter old man who has been mining these hills for years. He says he has a 10 pound nugget to everyone but no one has ever seen it. He tries to mislead others that come looking for a quick find.
