Hubby and I are going to Vegas (YooHoo!) after the restaurant closes and are thinking of checking out the Valley of Fire one day. Has anyone here been?

When I read this post I automatically thought the Valley of Fire you were referring to was the San Fernando Valley which is on fire right now - and where I am headed tomorrow! In fact I had relatives that had to evacuate last night. Anyhow, this place sounds interesting - what is it all about? It sounds familiar. More info please?

The Valley of Fire is near Lake Mead in Nv.

I believe it gets its name from the color of the rocks. Not because it's on fire all time...like l.a.....lol

I've only been thru there once. I do remember it being very pretty. We didnt stay long being we were just passing thru.

Have fun on trip Monkey.

Well, we went and had a great trip. The Valley of Fire was beautiful. About 1/2 hour drive from Vegas and it had stunning rock formations. If in the area, I highly recommend taking the time to see it.
We stayed Halloween night at the Golden Nugget, downtown on Freemont Street. There were great costumes everywhere, many quite inventive.
My favoirte time of the trip was swimming in the Golden Nugget pool which has a shark tank in the middle of the pool and a tube slide that goes through the shark tank. It was so fun!
