From the PLC website: www.plcoakhurst.org

"There is one Life and one Power in the Universe and that Power is God.
God speaks through many teachers, East and West, ancient and contemporary. God doesn't have a religion, but is in all religions and spiritual paths. The laws of the Universe work through love... All splendor is revealed through the discovery and release of that which is within each individual... What we give, whether it be love, talent, time or dollars, circulates back to us. Freedom belongs to everyone. Everything and everyone is sacred. It is possible to live together, to advance together, to synthesize our differences and reveal Oneness."

Anyone actually interested in researching the PLC and its relationship to Emersonian philosophy, just check out the website - you might like it.

I love many people at PLC and attended there for a period of time. For the most part, it sustained me at a period when there was NO other spirtual place I was willing to attend. That said, it is not for everyone. I recommend anyone that is interested should read what is said on their web site.

But, If you want a few personal observations, here are mine.

From week to week, there are different speakers. This is both good and bad, depending on your own beliefs and that week's speaker. Sometimes I heard messages that were directly from the bible and would be exactly the same as what you would hear at many traditional churches. Other times, I would squirm through a talk from someone that believed in (for example) Tarot Card reading. Over all, most weeks I was comfortable with most of what was said.

That is more than I can sometimes say about many traditional churches are now preaching a politics of exclusion and right wing judgements. But, that is a different subject and I know many people will feel differently. My very traditional mother attended PLC with me once and bolted for the door as quickly as she could, never to return.

Where I broke from the PLC was when I felt there was too great a a tendency toward positive thought bringing material acquisition. (I forget the exact terminology, but those that attend regularly will know what I mean.) After a time, I was starting to think it was sounding more like a group of investors using positive thinking more to add to their wallet than to help them spirtually. There is nothing wrong with getting rich, but I would rather save that for my investment club and tend to my spirtual and fellowship needs on Sat or Sun morning.

I know this may sound too excessively negative, and it not meant to be. I still would consider stopping by occasionally. One thing I firmly believe is that we must all follow our own paths. Just because our paths are different doesn't mean either of us have to be WRONG!

Ron, I think that is a fair and accurate assessment - good information for those who are looking for a personal recommendation from a trusted friend and want a little more than the website. Thank you for commenting.

so does that mean that there is no wrong path?

Are all paths equally correct?

A reminder that this thread is entitled POSITIVE LIVING CENTER and endless debates about a particular "path" that always seem to circle back to the path of one's own preference belong on another thread. Thank you for your courtesy. I will stay out of your pond and you can stay out of mine. Further discourse on the matter, despite the tasty nature of the bait, will be assiduously avoided. rolleyes:

I really, really want to bite, but I have lost enough (one) friends with religion talk. I learned my lesson.

PLC does seem pretty new age. I would be open to going, just to go, but I am not religious, do not believe in Tarot Cards, or candles and sage. But I like speakers, regardless of the topic, because I like to think. Thinking outside ones comfort zone-- that is the key to being open minded and learning.

I find positive confession to be a trap. (negative confession being the snare)

I have found the positive living center to be a very comfortable place for me. I personally have not heard any talk of Tarot card readings, perhaps I missed that.
but these are the reasons I really like PLC

1. EVERYONE is friendly, hugs abound!
2. Everyone seems genuanly happy to be there...not like they were dragged to church
3. I like that I get to hear different speakers, and yet there is but one pastor.
4. I am not being preached at; I am being talked to, in words I understand, and never talked down to.
5. It's close to home
6. Turns out I know quite a few people who attend church there.
7. I like the music

There are more reasons, but I'm getting tired.

I'm glad the PLC exists. I've never attended but know some fine people who do. I'll have to make it down there sometime.

I think the trueness of a path is the heart you follow it with more than the shape of the belief.
