Hahahahahaha........ and let's not get into the racial issues of Tom and Jerry. They mostly edit that stuff out now, though.

I let them watch Popeye, too, so you just know they are going to grow up and try to smoke things out of pipes.

Our kids were watching Tom and Jerry on the way to a birthday party in Fresno yesterday. You know, just to get them riled up.

Good thread idea. A few endless debate ideas from me:

1. All gratuitously loud motorcycles should be banned immediately and permanently. Destruction of all such motorcycles should take place in small portable crushers of my own design which amplify the sound of the crushing to unbearable levels. The crushing will take place over several days in the motorcycle owner's yard. People who prop their bikes out in the driveway on Sunday mornings for no apparent reason or those who perform the ritualistic "wave" at other cyclists they pass on the road should also be crushed.

2. People who throw cigarette butts wherever they feel like should be sent organic farming forced labor camps for a period of no less than five years.

3. Abortion sucks.

4. String theory is a bunch of overly complicated mathematical nonsense that provides tenure but not truth.

5. Statistics don't lie.

6. There are measurable average performance differences between groups of humans with distinct genetics, as measured by cluster analysis.

CJ, this is the page you are seeking... it began as a facetious response to some circular discussions (see "Mountain Christian Center," thread or maybe it was "Positive Living Center" thread). That's not important now, as there seems to be a tacit agreement to avoid political and religious disagreements for as long as any of us, individually or collectively, are able!

Some other people had some good fun arguments on this thread - here's a classic for instance...

Who would win in a fight... Mighty Mouse or Superman?

This particular idea has been discussed before, but only briefly, and not to my complete agreement or satisfaction.

Welcome to the forum, CJ!

I've always stuck with Verison because I think they have better cell phone tower coverage up here in the mountains. But, if I ever hear someone else covers the area around where I live (near Bass Lake) better than Verizon, I'll change in a flash. It get's old having to go outside, standing on one foot and rotating to try and get a better signal.

I actually go through boost mobile. I got my phone from radio shack (no bells or whistles just standard flip phone w/ no camera) and my first months service for $96 including the tax. I have the unlimited minutes plan, so unlimited minutes anytime to anyone and it is $52.10 a month including tax. It's a no contract cell service kindove like Cricket. No annual contarct no extra fees or anything. if you don't pay they shut you off, then when you do pay they turn you back on. I'm not a big texter so I didn't get that plan for $60 a month with unlimited text messages, but it is free to recive text messages and 10 cents to send. I get better service on it than I did with my verison pre-paid phone. I don't get srevice in Bass Lake, or past Sierra Sky Ranch, but I do get it on Jackson Rd. & Cedar Valley. If your a no contract kind of person it is just perfect. Only down fall is Boost doesn't offer local numbers you have to have a Madera or Fresno number. It works well for me tho!!

We took both a Verizon and an AT&T phone on our 6000 mile road trip last winter. Verizon had better and more service hands down! We dumped the AT&T phone as soon as the contract was up and use only Verizon now. I wonder if AT&T left the area due to a lack of subscribers?? You may want to consider changing companies. I have a very basic plan. 450 minutes 250 text and insurance because I am a natural born klutz--$50 total

dancingqueen
Nov 12, 2008, 02:03 PM
Thanks so much for the info. The road trip sounds like it was a wonderful test. I thought my subscription was up the end of last month but that was just when I could get a free upgrade. I can't change companies until February. Wish it were now, I am jazzed and ready for a change.

dorseygirl
Nov 12, 2008, 02:28 PM
With Verizon you can do the upgrade every two years, and a lot of times if you pick the phone with the free upgrade, you get a free phone - doesn't cost you anything. I always like the every two years - because I certainly take advantage of getting my free phone. Go to Sierra Tel Business Center, next to Von's - they have all of the new style phones.

If, in the Courtship of Eddie's Father TV show, what if Eddie's father had actually gotten married... would Eddie have acted out and if so, how?

Also, didn't Eddie's father later become the HULK? So, that meant that character was "inside him" all the while, waiting to get out! So, maybe Eddie had a little HULK in him and THAT would have been his "acting out."

Just thinking. My daughter is on the bed doing her spelling sentences, so I have a little extra time to ponder.

Just to clarify, STI does not sell cellular phones or service.

Sierra Tel Internet (STI) sells Internet service

Sierra Tel Business Center (STBC) sells copies, paper supplies, etc like Kinko's

Sierra Tel Business Systems (STBS) sells cellular phones and service, computer networking, alarm service and monitoring, etc.

Sierra Telephone sells land line phone service, phones, and additional phone services such as voicemail, call waiting, etc.

I got my phone from Verizon at Costco. I've heard from others that things are cheaper from the Verizon store in Fresno than from the telephone co. They don't charge $10 to add another line or to change your phone over from one to another

I laughed and said I bet I have not watched a soap opera in 30 years. She laughed and said, oh if you turned one on and watched it for a week you would be all caught up, THEY PROGRESS VERY SLOWLY. I have been traveling and away from the forum for a month, and I can say for sure that there are threads on the forum that have not progressed an inch, they are exactly as they were a month ago. I like that analogy a lot: some visitors want to understand each glacial advance & retreat and how it shapes the result. Some just like to enjoy the view. Some note how little it has changed since the last time they visited. And some get vertigo when they get too close to the edge!

2. I may have been guilty of this prior to moving to kindlingville Ca, so I deisgraa then, but agree now!
3. Yes. This is indisputable. Even those that dispute it know better.
4. I have a bone of contention with this one, I have not yet accepted this as gospel, however it solves many, many problems, however, it does indeed bring up several more. Before we get into a unified theory, I think we need to decide if fossil fuels are actually fossil fuels, or some good goop the earth makes for us, this can be solved much easier, and faster than the 11 dimensional string theory can.

5. Untrue, IMHO.
6. I do not know anyhintg about it, nuetral.
