So do we have any Star Trek fan up in these thar hills? I'm from what many call 'The Next Generation' of Star Trek fans growing up and during the TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT era. I consider Deep Space Nine to be the best series of them all and if you think I've been mean on other threads just try to argue me on that point :fight: :D

Anyways what do we all think of the upcoming reboot movie? I've got some concerns for it but I think it could be the kick in the pants Star Trek has needed to come back to full vigor.

Trailers can be found here

Apple Trailers (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/)

Youtube Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n8qHdG1GLI)

You can also download the full 1080p trailers off of The Pirate Bay or the like. I'd be willing to pass my copy along if someone doesn't know how to use bittorrent or is afraid to.

So thoughts? No matter what happens between now and then I will be at a midnight showing. I think it's going to be 'good' it could be 'great' and I doubt it'll be 'bad'.

Ah what the heck....I'll throw my hat in here.....

Significant other likes Next Generation then Voyager and then DS9.

Other than the original ST, I like Voyager the best..... but they are all pretty good series...( I just never win on the ones we get to watch around here...) ;)

Now whats the new upcoming reboot movie your speaking of? I havent heard of it....( I dont watch a lot of TV....sorry! ) So enlighten me (again ) please? ;)

You dunno about the reboot?! :o

No it's ok I'm just a Trekkie so I will school you...but seriously check out my links. Here is the main Star Trek movie website (http://www.startrekmovie.com/)

Basically they are doing a reboot of the original series, possibly in the style of Battlestar Galactica or James Bond movies. Same characters of TOS with new people playing them. This story is about Kirk and company starting before he takes command of the Enterprise. I don't like spoilers so I don't know anything more than that really. J.J. Abrams of Alias, Armageddon, MI:III and Cloverfield fame is directing.

Most of my knowledge comes from the trailers though I just waltzed over to wikipedia and got spoiled somewhat by some bastage *shakes fist*. Lets just say the spoiler makes some thing make more sense but also raises even more concerns for me.

When I was six I appeared in the original series of Star Trek, in the first season, in an episode called "Miri." I had one line: "Call the police!" and wore a green wig. It was totally fun, as you might imagine! They took us kids on a tour of the spaceship and we were not allowed to touch anything because we might accidentally cause a "blast off!" My agent told me to say the line even though it wasn't in the script, and so I got my SAG card and great billing. Nothing like a great agent! Have fun you crazy Trekkies!

Kellie,

Did you ever meet Yeoman Janice Rand, played by Grace Lee Whitney, who is also one of our local Star Trek stars?

I got to work on the Yosemite Entertainment version of Deep Space 9, before they pulled the rug out from under us. Too bad, it was looking like a real winner. :(

Maugrim,
I've seen the trailers and I think they look good. But, I'll withhold my final opinion until I get to see the final results.

And, yes, did I mention I'm also a bit of a Trekkie.

Could you elaborate on this part of your post? I'm wondering what you are referring to.

I couldn't find a clip of the Star Trek online, but I found this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hkBSO4pZEnA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hkBSO4pZEnA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Wait for it, wait for it, THERE! (about 3:10 in).

Wait, now I found it!!

Yosemite Entertainment was a local computer gaming company that grew out of Sierra On-line. We were working on a new game based on DS9 when we closed up. I sill have a huge poster from DS9 and probably some old code on a computer around here somewhere. Of course, we had their permission and it required a certain amount of interaction between our company and the studio.

But, least I mislead, there were many at our company that were much closer to the studio than I. Mainly, I just sat around and tested the game. And they paid me to do it. :)

OMG, Kellie! I totally remember that episode! There were the "onlies" and the "grups"... (I guess I have seen it too many times :D )
So cool that you were able to meet the cast and to tour the ship! :awe:

Thanks for the link Yosemite Joy! I also found the episode on hulu.com
