computer question

okay my father in law was talked into buying a DSL kit from SBC, so he just got out of the hospital yesterday and he DSL kit came while I was there and I tried hooking it up.. and while hooking it up he didn't have a plug in for the cable cord so for 25.00 we got one for him and downloaded the software I let it restart and went to finish the set for the DSL and when the computer turned on i had a window pop up and it says "please insert windows 98 second edition CD in" why i don't know but my question is this.

he doesn't have the windows 98 second edition cd , so can I used another cd from someone elses Window 98 second edition cd in his computer?
