I hate um, and most people that smoke dont even realize how bad they smell after smoking, and perfume doesnt help cover up the smell, especially to a non smoker...
its very bad habit, I'm glad California made the smoking law... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/grin2.gif

I seen on the news they want to pass a law that you can not smoke in a car if a kid under the age of 6 in in the car with you.
I do not like Smoke but our rights are being taken away.
Places we can not smoke:
first Public building
then it was Bars.
Now LA beaches
soon Cars.

"no smoking in bars and soon no talking and no drinking" - e.i.
i'm all for not smoking with a kid in the car. i don't think it's an OK thing to do, but ditto with smoking in a house w/ kids so... yeah... that gets into the whole rights thing.

I hate Cigarette smoke. I think it stinks and that is one reason why I don't go to the Casino. Also as we know it can kill you and my lungs need all the help they can get anyways. I never let anyone smoke in our house, car boat ect. We moved into a condo once and the walls, celing and blinds were brown from smoke and we had to repaint & have the blinds ultrasonic cleaned and carpet replaced. It's amazing that just walking through the casino from one end to the other and out the other door how your clothes smell when you get home. My mom sokes like a chimney and sometimes I don't even want to go to visit her because of it.

My whole family, in-laws and out-laws are smokers. My DH and I are not. The one thing I don't get is they know what it is doing to there bodys and the people they smoke around.I would vote on no smoking in cars or homes with small kids.Someone needs to stand up for the kids who can not.The cancer rate for kids is going up they need no help.IMHO

I quit 8 years ago. Back then I could never picture myself without one and now I could never imagine myself with one. The old saying is true, I'm only one cigarette away from a pack a day. That fear keeps me honest. I'd hate all that hard work to go to waste. I must say when I see others smoking it looks pretty doggone silly!!

When I was a kid my parents, grandparents and other family members smoked. We would go on road trips and I would be one of those kids in the back with the windows rolled up while everyone smoked. It was a miserable experience.
I've never smoked and don't want it around my kids.

I never smoked, but I believe others have the right to do so if they wish (unless their second-hand smoke is going to bother someone). I also believe in LOTS of health information about smoking being made available to the public, especially teens, so those considering smoking can make their decisions armed with the latest medical knowledge. I am just extra-glad that I do not have to go through "quitting" since I never started.

Well actually this is California and it isnt legal in a lot of places .... Resturants, Bars, elevators, office buildings, state buildings, Federal buildings, there are designated rooms in hotel rooms, Most lines, most amusement parks, soon some beaches and most public places are anti-smoking....
And I am very unlikely to approve of smoking around my kids... I have three who are asthmatic....and smoking near them causes me to have to take them to the Hospital.....
This is America you are right ... and you do have the right to smoke, as long as it does not affect my right to breath.....your rights are no stronger than my rights.... and your rights end when you hurt others....
So I have no problem with you smoking .... if you are considerate and move or stop if you are asked ....
This issue is as simple as this .... you may damage your health ... you will not damage my kid's ....
When any one wants .... ask me about my wife in Disneyworld ....

I was one of the kids stuck in a smoke filled tomb on wheels. It sorta makes me paranoid to get in a vehicle if I don't know it's past history. That smell gives me an instant sick headache, yeah I probably need therapy. Facts are facts and the medical community and my personal experiences lead me to believe smoking is just not good for anyone. If you ever serviced air conditioning equipment, the residue deposited on the duct work and filters will make you think about what our lungs have to contend with. If you smoke, try to stop, your family and friends are going to miss you.

Well .... we were near an Undersea ride...the older kids wanted to see it real bad... we had been there since opening and every one was tired. My youngest was 6 months old... and we had 2 kids asleep in strollers..... and were sitting near a fountian... 3 women walked up ... there were plenty other places to sit ... and all lit up ... DisneyWorld had just implemented smoking areas .... way after DisneyLand had.
My wife walked up and explained that her on child had severe asthma and asked them to move or quit near the kids (all the smoke was passing our way.... they told her they had the right to smoke this is America and they had freedoms.... I went over and said that Disney has smoking areas and this is not one.... they Laughed and said they were from Texas and didnt need to follow Florida's silly rules...
I went to a person working in the park and asked them to please help... they said that since it is a new rule they dont always enforce it ....and was to busy to help....she went on to say that in her opinion it was just smoke....
My wife said so you wont help with this disgusting thing ?? She said no .... my wife said ... well I guess disguting things can't be helped. So if I were to like take a big drink of water and choke and spit it up ... you couldnt do a thing right ??? The Disney person said no ... and so my wife did it on their cigarettes .... they moved....

And the next year we were standing in line at Pirates in DisneyLand.... a couple were smoking ... the smoke was blowing in her face. They laughed and said "make me" then flicked a but at her.... my wife reported it to a attendant who did nothing ... then to a manager who asked them to quit... when they found out about the whole event ... the couple was asked to leave Disney and the attendant was fired ....
Guess smoking isnt "legal" everywhere in the US ...
Oh and don't mess with my wife ... lol

I smoked for 13 years, started at the age of 13, I was stupid and didn't know any better at the time.
As I got older, I knew better, yet felt like it was my right. I figured since I didn't smoke in the house, it wouldnt affect my children either.
At the age of 5, my oldest daughter had to have surgery to put tubes in her ears, due to constant ear infections and hearing problems from it, the doctor told me that my smokeing didn't help the situation at all! I figured it wasnt me, it had to be my EX husband who smoked in his house, I NEVER smoked in the house. Well, a year later, she had to go through the surgery again and we were both told that she was having some very adverse reactions to the cigarrette smoke. I explained to the doctor that I never smoked in the house and that her dad did.
The doctor put me in my place: he told me how by my smoking...even outdoors, the smoke gets on my clothing, I would carry it into the house on my clothes, sit on the couch, or lean against the counter, Lie the the kids bed to read to them, and all of those things would have the smoke transfered from my clothes, so it was really no different than if I had smoked inside. WOW! it was really a wake up call to me, My children are my world.
I started really thinking and then, Just quit 10 years ago. I can't believe to this day that I ever smoked, It is not something that seems like me.
I also am not sure why people who smoke seem to have defensive attitudes a lot of the time, like they know they are doing something hurtful to themselves and others and feel the need to explain why they have the right to do it.
When I did smoke, I was polite and put out my cigarette if someone asked, or if children were around, and I would have NEVER thought of lighting one up at an amusement park, or place of family gatherings.

If you smoke, please try to quit... especially if you have children. It has been very hard to watch my Mom deal with loosing her Mother... and I lost a Grandmother. I thanked my Mother for quitting when I was young. When I was about 5 years old, I walked up to my Mother and Grandmother (Dad's Mom) and told them that I loved them very much and didn't want them to die from smoking. Smart five year old, huh? Anyway, they both quit that week. I am so grateful that they did. As result, my Grandma (Dad's Mom) stopped early enough to make her the healthy person she is today. I expect her to live into the triple digits. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif
The problem is... I told the same thing to my other Grandma (Mom's Mom), but she didn't take the advise until it was too late. It was hard to watch my Grandmother suffer and it was hard to watch my Mom have to deal with it. I'm glad I will not have to go through that with my Mom.
Please quit smoking so that your children do not have to watch you suffer.

I quit 18 years ago, and regret ever starting. I know that if I hadn't stopped then I wouldn't be alive now, and even though I quit it still caught up with me 2 years ago when I was rushed into hospital with breathing problems and spent 3 months there resulting in major heart surgery for a bypass and mechanical valve to replace a damaged one. It probably wasn't smoking alone, a combination of that and junk food, and I am diabetic, but it's certainly made me think and know that if I had my life to live over again there are many changes I would make.

i used to smoke, and i enjoyed it, now i eat...and eat....and eat. it must be that hand to mouth thing, or that addiction thing...
after i quit, i would smoke when i was around smokers, borrowing theirs [why do smokers always share, even with cigs getting so expencive ?]
i finally had to stop smoking, because of all the chemicals in the tobaco, when i became extremly chemically intolerant, and noticed how sick cigs were making me. one cig, and i would wake up with a hangover, later, i would immediatly get a head ache, not able to finish the cig
i can, on the other hand, smoke organic tobacco, very rare, and expencive. so i eat... and eat...

I started smoking as a teen and smoked for 25 years. Thankfully not heavy-maybe 1/2 a pack a day but for years that was my excuse-"I don't smoke very much....just a bit...hardly any...
I finally quit after much nagging from my kid and finally from my boyfriend (now my hubby) Neither of us can imagine going back but I must admit it feels strange to sit at a bar and not light up. That's were the craving comes back worse!

I don't mean to resurrect a dead topic, but I'm still exploring stuff - and I do smoke cigarettes and I don't see me quitting anytime soon. I didn't start until I was over 40 and I never ever imagined I would ever be a smoker. I grew up in a house full of smokers and was disgusted by it on numerous levels. About 4 yrs ago on a day when something "SNAPPED" in response to one of those last drops that finally sunk the shipwreck that was my marriage I got off the phone from my ex in such a heated fury that I was shaking (and I am the most non-angry person in the world as a rule) and in rapidfire succession the thought that I 'could' get a REALLY STRONG adult beverage but I couldn't drive or work, I wasn't prepared to high tail it and run....would SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE ME A CIGARETTE!?!?!? THAT was my first puff in my life and I've smoked since. I'd rather be in therapy but can't afford it and THAT is my sad, but true story.

i am not allergic to smoke. i have been over saturated with chemicals, now i am so intolerant to chemicals of every kind, i am home bound, with liver damage, nervous system damage, respitory problems, immune system problems, severe migrains, fibromyalgia, ect, ect, ect... do you have any idea what is is like to have the flue 2-3 months, and never being truely healthy ? smoke doesn't bother me at all, the recent fires have had little affect on me, but, cigarrettes are loaded with more chemicals than you can count. smog botheres me alot, the thicker it is, the worse i get. pay attention or try doing a little homework befor your insencitivity embarasses you...or worse.
i tried to work with this health issue, i even whent back to school and got a new occupation, then i became self employed, over a fifteen year period, i had that backbone, and tried all kinds of medication, herbs, detox programs, counceling, hypnosis, lifestyle changes, air filters, and on and on and on, still, it nearly killed me. there is a thin line between back bone, and denial.
how about a little common scence ? chemicals can harm human beings, and alot of the damage is irreversable. duh.
attitudes like yours is why this problem is not being addressed, and why people like me have no choice but to leave the work force, and most other aspects of daily life.
i don't like being disabled. i loved my occupation, and took alot of pride being a succesful buisness for almost 15 years, in this town especially !

My body is very intolerent of many chemicals I could never work in an office with people who use perfumes/colognes. It's going to become a more common topic in the near future. We are all being poisoned. People complain about second hand smoke. Well what about second hand chemicals from perfumes. It's instant headache for me. It's so ironic that we use toxic cleaners that damage our immune system to kill germs and we buy into it.

One of my saddest experiences was when a little preschooler in my class came in one morning (she was a beautiful little girl, with long white blonde hair) and sat down next to me on the rug. As I leaned over to help her with something (a puzzle, I think) I smelled the most disgusting odor coming from her. It was stale smoke. yuck. The next morning I watched as she pulled up with her Dad, they were in his work truck with the windows up and Dad puffing smoke. I did talk to him & he never even realized the harm he was doing.
Yes, I'm an ex smoker, yes, I used to smoke in my car, (I didn't believe in smoking in the house) and I'm really glad I quit. (1987)
BUT, do I crave a smoke occasionally? Uh, Yeah. Especially during weeks like this one, I've been hit so many different ways I'm not sure what way to go. Now I understand why Jimi was on line so much a couple weeks ago when he went through his crisis, I'm doing the same thing this week. Mat, maybe you should start a Therapy thread. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/freak.gif

orange blossum oil, is it all natural or mixed with synthetics/petroleum ? that seems to distinguish wheather or not i can tolerate it. old spice original aftershave is o.k., but all there other products are out. patchuli, andamber are alright, but extremly concentrated, most people wear to much
whant to continue this line of discussion ? go to general topic 'chemical intolerance'

I agree that you shouldn't smoke in a car with a child. My father smoked around me all the time and I ended up with asthma and never outgrew it. I can't see doing that to an innocent child, it's so expensive nowadays to pay for the medication or the insurance to cover the medication, treatments, and ER visits.
Now don't take this the wrong way, but I'm a smoker, too (makes sense with asthma, right?), but I've found that most childrens ailments occur within the first 6 months (and up to 6 years, I think).

I smoked from the age of 15 to 33 starting out sneaking cigarettes so my parents wouldn't find out (yeah, right, like they couldn't smell the smoke on me :O) What an idiot I was!)
Anyhow, I managed to get myself up to over a pack a day and really felt like I wasn't going to make it to my next birthday of 34 between constantly breathing smoke and LA smog! Oh, boy, was I disgusted with myself.
I knew I wanted to quit, but no amount of someone telling me to quit or embarassment could make me do it until I was ready to in my own mind.
Luckily for me, I met a wonderful man, now my husband, who didn't smoke. I told myself there was no way I was going to bring cigarettes with me into this relationship so I wouldn't smoke around him. By the time we married, I was able to quit completely. I made the turn in my mind about really being able to kick the habit.
It's been 10 years since quitting, and I've never touched one since. Perfume used to be my best friend, too, but now I only use a little dab now and then.
There is nothing better in this world than the scent of just clean freshness. I wish I could bottle this up and sell it. I know I'd be rich!

I started smoking in High School before legal age as most young people do when experimenting with Cigarette smoking...
I quit after High School during a brain storm.
I honestly asked myself why I had to smoke.
Was it becouse of stress or addiction?
Im understand both are a cause for why most people smoke. But looking at myself and realizing that I was paying for something that harms my body. Makes me ill. Why should I pay for that when the air I breath is harmful anyway...I do know that the first puff of a smoke feels great, but that feeling fades after awile and is replaced by dependency.
I don't condemn people who do smoke, and I am not going to preach that you should quit. I am saying that it is not for me...
Thats my two cents on the matter. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/stretch.gif
