Does anyone have a good idea of what types of sports classes are offered for young kids up here? We are sad that soccertots is gone out of Oakhurst (though they are still in Mariposa and Coarsegold I think- they are under haveaball.com if anyone is in those areas...) We are looking for something fun and active. I think my son is too young for karate, just cause he will probably come home not yet able to determine when he can kick and when he can't! I was thinking soccer or pee-wee football or even sand-lot type get togethers for kickball at the park... Seems I find out about some of these things after the signups- darn!

Pee Wee Football will start with sign up in the month of about June. I will keep you in mind when that starts up. we have a outstanding Youth Football family that your son will enjoy and have fun. Our pee wees went 12-0 this last season and they won super bowl, division and mountain bowl. all our trophy's are at Pizza Factory under the big tv in the corner and you can see a picture in the window next to them. but I will be posting sign ups and dates when they are here.

That sounds like it's right up our alley- do you happen to know the minimum age?

I, too, am interested in different youth activities. What are some of the equestrian centered groups/clubs? Is there a gymnastics studio anywhere close, or any private individuals with experience in gymnastics, tumbling, etc? Is there a community directory, other than the phone book, for such organizations? Now that the schools are facing such hard times and thinking of cutting out many activities, what kinds of things can the kids get involved in, but, more importantly, will they?

Gymnastics by Diane - she is in the same building as Yosemite Roasting Company on 41 - she is in the back and has been around a very long time. Right now they are getting ready for their recital in May and have ordered costumes, so don't know if she is taking any new students right at the moment. 683-8828 or 683-0404 All ages

I think the soccertots program is still offered at the community center. My grandson goes to gymnastics with Diane and loves it.

After living here on weekends and vacations for 3+ years, I think (and hope) I've finally talked the wife into making the move from Hollister to Oakhurst. One of her big concerns is things for the kids to do. They are really into the Tae Kwon Do martial arts. I do not see a school other than Mariposa. Any knowledge? My daughter is 11 and my son is 9 what other favorite past times do forum members have. Fortunatly my son loves fishing and hiking so we spend alot of time at Lewis Creek. The daughter...well she's 11 enough said!! Thanks so much. And thanks for the views, wisdom, and knowledge from reading the Forums over the years... thanks Sandman for all the hard work.

Call Gymnastics by Diane - She has a display of Tae Kwon Do materials, so she may have some type of connection or they may have classes there at her place too.
