Last night KK noticed that the Ice Cream place next to Round Table Pizza was gone and a new place called "Rice Man" Asian Food was there.

What happened to the Rumors of the Deli? I guess the pipeline was wrong http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif

It's not a rumor, it is there. The signs are up. I don't know if he's opened yet.

I talking about the Deli rumor. I've seen the signs for the Rice Man too, I'm curious about what they will be serving. Hope it's good!

I sure am glad that there is going to be another choice of lunch this summer other than pizza and Von's in that shopping center.

I noticed the Kyoto Cafe was closed yesterday...They were closed for a few weeks, reopened for about a week and closed again. I heard there's a partnership dispute at the root of all this....whatever the case, they're losing a lot of money being closed.

So is the Rice Man actually open yet? I don't go through Oakhurst much these days...

There is brown butcher type paper covering the windows. So I doubt they are open. I did also notice the white copy of the Liquor licence App. also posted. Their sign on the building says something like: Rice Man Fine Asian Food To Go. Makes me think there will be no sit down dining, but the liquor licence app. tells me different. Perhaps it will be set up along the lines of Panda Express???

You are right about the 'tropical' in the title...which is why I said "something like" http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif I hardly ever look over there when driving through that area. Shoot had it not been mentioned here...I may have never noticed!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/blush.gif

I also find it interesting that Oakhurstleaf said way back on March 30th I heard a rumor today that counters the Italian deli rumor....

I got word that a Chinese take-out place will be going in the Braun's location. I heard that it's the former owners of Oka who'll be operating this business

How does she always seem to have the juicy info!!!!

And, to add to these little tidbits she so lovingly lets us in on....John@3300ft, I believe Oakhurstleaf had said the place behind Todd's will be a sausage making establishment, that the owner was finally able to move his business from his home into a shop. I bet she can tell us more by now though!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif

The shop two spaces behind Todd's is NOT a deli...it's a sausage manufacturing kitchen. It is not yet open to the public...and the date of opening is still up in the air. The purpose of the place is for Tom Vrab to have a legitimate facility to manufacture and cold-smoke his sausage (German, Polish, and Italian) for his fair business. The reason why this shop is not "open" is because he is working various fairs up and down the state (even at this moment). In his down time, when he will be at the shop, he will be selling his sausage and other charcuterie items wholesale/retail. He will likely be closed a couple days per week and while he is doing the fair circuit which he has invested much. There will be no ready-to serve/eat products. The sausage will not be sold fully cooked. Items will be sold cold and in bulk to walk-ins and via mail-order. This is not a deli/cafe/restaurant by any means.

So there's the story behind that.

The Rice man is owned by the old owners of the sushi bar "OKA" that is in the Sears parking lot .
They plan on having take-out, buffet type of food.
Should be good and also reasonable.

Hah! I cannot take the credit - 49er is the one who relayed this info to me - and believe me, he is a "picky eater"!

OK, we had Rice Man tonight for dinner. I had the chicken teriyaki rice bowl. Was surprised that it also had salad and a few veggies (broccoli, carrot) in it and the rice was steamed, not fried. The chicken was grilled and it looked to be a pretty healthy meal. I liked it but don't know if I love it yet. It takes me a few trys before I love stuff - like Lucy's and El Cid. But I definitely did not dislike it! Rest of the family pretty much liked it. Also, the portion was big - great for the hearty appetite yet would make two meals for the lighter eater. All in all I gave it a "B". Oh, also learned the owners are the previous owners of Oka.

I went there last night about 7:30p.m..

The employees are very friendly.
I noticed one table next to the enterance that was small chairs and low table hight, don't know if it was a kiddy table or for the employees families http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/goofy.gif

The bowls that we ordered were all good, had the Korean BBQ, Chicken Mango, and fried rice.

The food was fresh and hot,and as summer said good portions with a little bit of steamed garden veggies added to the rice and main meat.

I think that this business will be a welcomed choice for us up hear, Great Take Out, just phone in and by the time you arrive it will be ready. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif
The prices were reasonable, dinner plate with 8 shrimp, was under $8.00 and the bowls under $6.00. They serve beer in the bottle and by the picture too.

Good food, I had the tofu bowl. Was very good. However, my husband spotted one of the cooks stirring something (soup perhaps?) in a large pot and taste it with the spoon he was stirring with, then put the spoon right back into the soup.

Yukky. But the food was great.

Pops and I went there for lunch. I had the Tropical Shrimp bowl and she had the Orange Chicken bowl. Both were very good and very filling.
