I found the food terrible. Guess you can't call it a greasy spoon, perhaps greasy chop sticks.

Don't know about the food yet, but I'm gonna try it soon. And can't wait to try out the Karaoke! With Tocools running the show, it's GOTTA be good!

I used to work at the Jade and let me tell you after that I will NEVER eat there again. I saw how they stored the meats and other perishables... namely out in the open, not in the fridge http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sick2.gif. I do not know how they are still open. The only thing the Jade has going for it is the Bar http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/bigcry.gif

The restaurant is better now, but I don't think that it was ever bad. I had some very good meals on occasion.

I wasn't going to bring this up, with all the negatives involved in 'restaurant bashing', but here goes. My son & I went to the gazebo a few weeks ago & had a really good meal, he's kinda picky (he's 15) but we were accomodated by a very nice man who I believe to be an owner/partner? So, last Sunday after an outing on the lake, my husband & I decided to stop in for a late lunch (2pm)
When we walked in the door I was met by a hostile (grumpy) young lady. She seemed upset at me when I replied "two" for lunch. I walked to the table, which pissed her off, apparently she was suppossed to 'lead' us into the dining area...it's only about five steps....Me, being who I am kinda shrugged it off, figuring she must of had a rough lunch crowd, (my husband was still close to the entrance way, this took only a minute or so)
I went to the designated table (there was only one other diner) and started to pull out my chair when the server made some abstract comment about 'going to a particular table' & my husband said maybe we should go, still I started to sit (I was hungry) and as she turned away she said something deragatory about me....except she said it right to my husbands face...he was still coming into the room. Guess it was pretty bad, because he said, we're outta here. I stopped & looked at her, and when I said that this wasn't an acceptable way to treat customers, especially locals (I know...I know... not really appropriate) she just rolled her eyes and turned her back to me. After we went into the parking lot Jack went back in to ask her name, which apparently was Susan.
Anybody know what's up with this???
Not to say I won't go back, but when I do I will let the owners know about this unfortunate incident.

All I hope is that the bugs are gone, the restrooms are disinfected (not just cleaned) and that the food isn't sat out all night.
I say all of this because this is what I had to deal with when I worked there... insects, restrooms that no one would sanitize, they refused to buy anything other than deordarizers. And they would sit meats, as well as other foods out all night long.
If that is all changed I may think about going back.

Wow I'm Surprized they just got new owners, and I was thinking about trying it out, but I remember how bad it was before and the food was the worst and I also heard about how dirty it was and also the workers and the bugs everywhere. ok ya talk me out of it.

I think they use MSG, which gives Jack a terrible headache, (t just makes my hands & feet swell). I originally went to the Jade gazebo because of their ads ststing no MSG.
I've fed Jack food with MSG in it w/o him knowing, only to have him complain of a terrible headache later...(I know it's evil, but I really didn't think it was that big of a deal, I was wrong)

I ate at the Jade last night with my husband, and the food was pretty good. We had a fly that kept bothering us, but it appeared the place was clean. That is until I went into the Ladies Bathroom... No toilet paper and the toilet wouldn't flush. I told the man working about it, but he didn't seem to suprised. I hope the kitchen is cleaner than in the past. Again, the food was good and we enjoyed our dinner.

Actually they do use MSG. That sign outside is a lie, many chinese restaurants dont understand that MSG is bad for some people. Its really sad.

I had lunch there last Sunday and was pleased with the food and the prices. My only peeve is that the cashew chicken comes with ground up cashews in it but other than that it was 100% better than before. I didn't use the restroom and probably won't in the future-thanks for the warning!

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/no.gif Aw, shoot...I never collected on my two free dinners that I won....~sigh~ (I know their Spring Rolls were pretty good, though...but after a couple of drinks, most things taste alright...)
Are they still doing Karaoke?
(And yeh, the bathrooms weren't kept up...but I know where they hid the extra toilet tissue! ~grin~)

I think the food at the Jade is much improved over what it was before. I just have a problem with the way they serve it. Dozens of plates and no combos like they had before.
They did some major cleaning when the new owners took over, so I think the kitchen is better than it was.
As for the bad waitress...they did have a woman who was awful. They lost a crowd of 13 to the place across the street because of her attitude one night. I haven't seen her there since then. I think they wised up and let her go!!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/grin2.gif

Before tonight, I had never even been in the Jade.
First of all though, I would like to say that "the place across the street", namely Szechuan, does not use MSG. The sign is not a lie, I worked there for a couple years back in high school, and I will swear by my words.
I am incredibly picky about my Chinese food, infact the best Chinese food I ever ate was in Winnepeg, but back on topic.
Ok, the Jade. The "New" Jade Gazebo. There were only us, and another table of two. The service, was ok, could of been better, but hey I am really not complaining. No bitchy people, just sort of lacksadasical. We ordered Egg Rolls (my standard) and teryaki beef sticks for appetizers. Both were hot, and excellent. I mean excellent. If you have never tried the teryaki beef sticks you are surely missing out.
For entrees we ordered Hunan Beef, Schezuan Chicken and Chicken Chow Mein. The Hunan Beef was good and spicy, with lots of veggies, and good beef. Both chicken platters were so suberb in quality and not in the least greasy (unlike across the street). Has to be the best Chicken Chow Mein I have eaten since I ate at the Chinese place in Winnepeg back in 1994. Absolutely suberb! The Schezuan Chicken could of been spicier.. but the overall taste and quality of the prepared dish was hands down the best in town.
I will go to the Jade anyday now over another Chinese restaurant in the area.
Let me say that besides the lazy service, I have one more thing that needs to be worked on. The venetian blinds that cover the windows are disgustingly filthy. They need to be replaced.
Kudos!

We went to to the Jade Gazebo last night. First time, we've ever eaten there. Once a long time ago, we stepped in looked around and left...but after recently hearing from others how the place has been cleaned up and the food better...we gave it a try.
The food was very good. We had the egg foo yung, wonton soup, egg rolls and poo-poo whatever, almond chicken, chicken chow mein, sweet 'n sour pork, fried rice, steamed rice for the kids and tsing tao beer and softdrinks....our little table was covered! Had plenty of take-home food as you can imagine.
The one waitress on was very nice and accomodating too. She handled the dinner rush very well by herself.
The restaurant reminded me of an old-style chinese place you'd run into in any given China Town. It felt old in an original kind of way...but clean and safe. I didn't notice any filthy mini blinds as we weren't sitting near a window...everything seemed fairly clean from my vantage point.
I liked the Jade Gazebo...and am happy we tried it. Will definately go there again.

I know.. the food is great there! I got take out a couple weeks ago. I love it.
We sat right next to the blinds so you could really see the grime. The next time I go in to eat I will mention it to the waitress if they are still dirty.

We always liked the Jade until about 2003 (I think) when Katherine left. It was not good at all so we didn't go back. But with these glowing comments I think we'll try it again. YJ, you got me intriqued with the teryaki beef sticks - will have to try them! I'll try not to look at the filthy blinds. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

Tried the Jade for lunch last week. It was first time I've been there since new owners took over. First of all, they really cleaned up the place - new floors, newly painted - didn't see any dirt or crud anywhere. The food was freshly prepared and everything was delicious. Portions were large and price was very reasonable. Looking forward to going back again soon. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif
