We are going to be moving to Oakhurst before the new school year. My daughter is going into the 7th grade. Can you tell me about the school she will be going too?? Thanks

Unless you homeschool, most likely she will be going to Oak Creek Intermediate School. My daughter just graduated from 8th grade there this month. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif

Here is the website so you can check it out a bit. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gifNot sure what you'd like to know.

I found this old post and wondered if anyone can add to it... We will be moving to the mountains and my daughter will be going to OCI. Are there any parents on the forum with kids that go there or have gone there. What was your experience with the school. Pros and cons. She is in a great middle school here in Hollister and my wife and I are petrified to move but the gang violence in our little town is getting out of hand. We have owned a house in Oakhurst for years and it feels like time to move. Does anyone know if they have a music program? Also from everything else I see YHS seems to be a great High School. Anyone have any comments on that? Thanks. I really want to make sure were making the right decision for the kids in moving..

My daughter will be entering into 6th grade and going to OCI this year. I am nervous, I think just because she is growing up and probably just like any other parent, no matter where you are.
The principal is newish I think this will be his 3rd year at OCI and has done a great job as I understand from friends that already have kids there.
The parents are very involved here at the schools. There is a band program, but as usuall who knows what will happen with budget cuts.
This past year OCI has also had some refurbishing done too. It is a nice little campus.
I don't know much about the high school as my 6th grader is the oldest.
Hope to meet you when you get here.

I know that Ca does not have a budget yet and that is hard on all of the schools because w/o a budget- they can't budget. I know that music was a heated topic at the BLUSD board meetings. If it does get cut there are some wonderful teachers that don't charge too much living up here. We take piano for a good price. I guess what I am saying is where there is a will- there is a way. Good luck with the move. The best to you.

PS. Off topic but did anyone go to the BLUSD school board meeting last night and can you fill me in? I missed it.

I really think it is going to be a bit of time untill our state gets back on its feet. It is really to bad that our children are the ones that have to suffer. Speaking of music lessons my son really wants to learn acoustic guitar anybody know of someone who teaches it... Thanks for the replies. So far it sure sounds like relocating up here is the best decision.

I attended OES, and OCI as a child. I thought enough of the schools in Oakhurst to return here before my 4 y/o son needed to start school and uproot our family from Socal and move back where it is safe.
I cannot say enough about the school system here, vs. big cities. I won't even go into the MASS program, that i still cannot believe exists even after all these years since i took part.

good luck!

Ditto! I hate to say it but private school looks like it might be a nice option for a few years until this budget mess gets cleared up. I know OLC is trying to open its doors up to 4th grade just because of the recent budget crisis. I love the teachers and the parents at our school but, let’s face it sooner or later the cuts will trickle down to our kids.

I know that Sue Moore teaches guitar/piano and tutors as well. Pm me with your info and I will ask her if it’s ok to give out her number.

The Principal at OCI is really an amazing instructor. He has made some changes and is a great guy to work under... (hmm, that sounds weird) Anyway, he has some interesting experiences (ask him about the Amazon Rainforest where he lived for quite some time) which he shares with the kids and is very fair in dealing with parents, teachers and students as well... My only caution is dealing with a couple of the teachers there, but if your child is into sports, you'll have no problem, if not, listen when they talk about the attitude of the teachers.... and take any concerns to Mr Huckabone (the Principal)
