I am getting married in Yosemite Valley in Sept., and am looking for a hairstylist willing to travel to my hotel. Revive Salon wants $250 in just travel fees, and Bellissimo want $150. That's more than it costs to do the actual hairstyle. I only need my hair done, and I don't need an elaborate updo, just something simple.

Any recommendations?

If your hotel is in Yosemite, then travel fees would be reasonable -its about an hour's driveone-way to the Valley floor from Oakhurst (time and gas costs) and they probably have to pay the $20 entrance fee into the park also...

You should give Donna Dozier a call, she's at the hair place next to subway, her number is 559-676-5217

She's very reasonably priced and my daughter just got her hair cut off for locks of love and Donna gave her a beautiful haircut, my daughter loves it!

I'm just a guy and I don't know much about the subject, but that's what I was thinking. Besides losing at least half a day's business and paying for fuel, vehicle upkeep, and adding a premium for special service I thought the $150 was totally valid.

Totally agrees....sometimes we forget the costs involved in travel to do services. Not only is there the expense of travel but someone Like Carol can do 3 or 4 people (or more) in the time spent going to and from Yosemite. (if she was at the salon instead of in her car)

All this young lady wanted was a recommendation, not a lesson in finances. Marchswallowbird, I hope you find the perfect stylist for your day.

We just recently used Revive Salon for a wedding and the bride's make up and hair were highly UNprofessional. I had to redo the bride's hair before the wedding, and because of this, we missed out on taking many of our family photos with the bride. Not to mention we were rushed and completely stressed out. The bride also had Revive Salon apply her make-up. Her eyeliner was applied so "crooked" that she told the lady that she would do it herself and proceeded to do so. It looked as if a fifth grader had put it on. I could not believe that a professional adult had applied it! Her makeup application was very far from professional. It took the lady 3 1/2 hours to perform this "disaster". She also had scheduled our sister in law's hair appointment to take place in the middle of the brides appt. However, there was only one person working/scheduled in the entire salon. So after waiting an hour and a half for her appt., she, also in tears, had to redo her hair, which was absolutely caked with "product" as was the brides hair. The worst part about this is that the woman doing the brides hair had to call the Receptionist in to do my sister-in-laws hair.....! She also told my sister in law, when she complained, that she was doing her a favor! My sister-in-law had to pay for the receptionist to do her hair! Needless to say, the brides hair was horrible, the brides make-up was horrible, and my sister-in-laws hair was horrible. The hairstylist payed no attention to the bride and was very unfriendly...bordering on rude. To make matters worse, this unprofessional hairstylist who offered this terrible service was actually the owner! While the bride was there for 3 1/2 hours... 3 people came in complaining about various issues such as manicures, hair, and etc. I do not believe this is a "one time thing". Please choose a different salon if you would like to have a wonderful, beautiful, wedding experience. I wish I had been given this same advice.

I really like Karen at Mountain Beauty, she gives such a good basic hair cut. Her prices are so reasonable too.

Krissie...So Sorry to hear about your experience. This is the exact reason I will not go there either.
Many of the girls from the high school stay away too after too many of them had the same type of problems with their hair and for Formal and Prom, this year, one poor girl ended up not catching the limo with the others so she could go home and redo her hair, she was in tears!

What a terrible way for a bride to start her day!

I will stick with Carol at Bellissimo

That really is such a terrible thing to have happen on your wedding day, as if your nerves arent already stressed enough~ :(

We really like Karen at Mountain Beauty too.....She's the only one hubby will trust to cut his hair for years now! :)

My husband says "I have gotten my hair cut all over the world, and Karen is the best." My mom and I have also gone to Mountain Beauty for the 5 years we have lived here.

There's a hair shop in Yosemite Village; they are there for the employees. I don't know who is there, but it may save you some stress. If your hotel is in the Park, I'll be the desk people would know who does hair.

:grin:One thing to remember when choosing a stylist for weddings: Not all stylists can do updos! Many years of training gos into it. Please view a stylists previous work before booking! Many people think because some one can cut they can also do upstyling! Not the case! It is a true lost art many schools do not evan teach this any longer. You also need to have a calm personality to make a brides day BEAUTIFUL!

Welcome to the forums UpdoFairy! I didnt know this about the upstyling~ and it brought back a long forgotten memory!

When I was very young my step mom took me in to have an updo done. She took me to one of the beauty colleges there where she lived. Shall we say it was quite an experience?

I must have gotten a relatively new person, because 4 hours later? (very hard to sit for at that age!) I had an updo that could have been given its own postal code! ....it was bigger than I was! :rotflmao: There definately is a talent and an art to it! ;)
