Jack FM 105.9 went away this past weekend. I hate say it but even with that annoying voice of JACK I miss the music. Looks like it's oldies (1960s) music and currnent news now 60's but I like a lot of the 60's musics so it may not be that bad. Plus Glenn Beck is now on in the mornings at 10AM :)

I noticed that yesterday, too..., except every time I was in the car it seemed like there was only talking going on... you mean they have music, too?

KFJK 105.9 will have '60 and '70 music on the weekends. Here is the article from the Fresno Bee...
"Talk Radio Format Takes Over KFJK"
Wednesday, Mar. 25, 2009 By Rick Bentley / The Fresno Bee
Local talk radio is expanding again — this time on the FM side of the dial.
The FM broadcast of KMJ (FM 105.9) will go on the air at 5 a.m. Thursday.
It takes over the radio spot previously home for the Jack format, KFJK (FM 105.9) that played a variety of popular music.
“There is so much good material out there, and we just could not get it all on AM,” says Todd Lawley, president and chief operating officer of Peak Broadcasting of Fresno.
The company also owns local talk/news radio powerhouse KMJ (AM 580). The new station will have no effect on the lineup currently on KMJ (AM 580).
Another reason for the format change is that KFJK has struggled in the ratings.
In the last three Arbitron ratings surveys, the station had shares, which are percentages of local listeners, of 3.2.2.1 and 2.1. It ranks 15th out of 38 local radio stations.
KMJ is the No. 1-rated station in the Fresno market. It collected a 9.3 share in the latest ratings.
The new talk radio station means more competition for KYNO (AM 1300), the local talk/news radio station that launched in September. KYNO owner John Ostlund says it will be more interesting to see how this move affects KMJ’s ratings than those for his station.
“They have the most [in] ratings to lose,” Ostlund says. KYNO tied for 36th place in the most recent ratings with a 0.1 share.
The launch of the FM talk station comes after Peak implemented a reduction in salaries on March 1.
Lawley says the new format will launch with the hiring of one new part-time employee and no loss of jobs by those who previously worked on KFJK. The few KJFK staff members will be absorbed into Peak Broadcasting’s other radio stations: KWYE (FM 101.1); KSKS (FM 93.7); and KMGV (FM 97.9).
The new FM KMJ will feature news, local and national talk shows and a local sports chat program. The “California Ag Net with Roy Isom" will air 5-6 a.m. weekdays, followed by a three hour local newscast featuring Ray Appleton, Blake Taylor, Christine Mathias. Bill Woodward and Doug Collins.
Glenn Beck’s nationally syndicated talk show will air 9 a.m. to noon, followed by Dave Ramsey from noon-3 p.m. Chris Daniel, who was added to the KMJ talk lineup in October, will host a two-hour program from 3 to 5 p.m.
“Then he will go across the hall and do his KMJ show for two hours. We plan for the shows to be different in tone, aimed at the 25-54 age group,” Lawley said.
Former KSEE (Channel 24) sportscaster Alexan Balekian will host “No Static Sports, On the FM KMJ @ 105.9” from 5 to 7 p.m. Lawley says there are no plans to move the broadcast of Fresno State University football and basketball to the FM channel.
The remainder of the lineup includes: “The Michael Savage Show,” 7-10 p.m.; “The KMJ Replay,” 10 p.m. to midnight; and “The Third Shift with John & Jeff,” midnight to 5 a.m.
FM KMJ will broadcast music from the ’60s and ’70s on the weekend.

Bleh! I loved that station, admittedly, I don't listen to the radio often.
I can't stand Savage, give me Limbaugh any day!

Last Thursday while driving home it was a Sports Radio type of show and I thought that was odd now I know why it wasn't music.

Try 107.1
It's a new "oldies" station that plays a lot of 60's through 80's much like Jack FM

Since I have a pretty decent music selection on my iPod, I very rarely listen to the radio. I have Sirius for Howard Stern but I don't even listen to music on my Sirius. I prefer iPod! I have a 160GB iPod full of my favorites. I usually have it on random shuffle. I think radio stations are doing as well as newspapers these days. Technology seems to be leaving them in the dust.

Now I know why I heard a right wing talk program when I expected music. I guess I can change that preset. But, it makes me wonder...
I'm sure they establish ratings based on some sort of telephone sampling. But, neither I or anyone I know has ever been asked what radio stations we listen to in our cars. Has anyone else here ever been asked?

Earlier this month, one of my favorite non-music stations, 97.7, canned all their 'talk show hosts' and went to, IMHO, very crappy music! "The Triplets: Heidi, Frosty and Frank" Tom Lykis, Adam Karola and a score of others are now silent in our area, and your station went to a talk format! Who'd a thunk?

No, I don't think they were in your area, I was talking about the Los Angeles/Orange County airwaves! Yes, it used to be Frosty, Jamie and Frank, but they replaced Jamie with Heidi a few years back. They were good. I miss them.
