A friend and I went to The Mountain House for dinner last night and the place was busy. It's busy for a reason... the food is great! I had a burger this time and loved it.

Well we went to the Mountain House the other night and it was GREAT. My girlfriend works there but was off due to sickness. But the service was great and the food was perfect. We had a client with us and he is a picky eater and he was very happy with his meal. Hubby and I had prime rib and he has new york steak and it was just perfect. I haven't been to the mountain house in years and was there for lunch never dinner and for what we ate it was a 80.00 dinner for three of us for steak and extra's..
That place gets the #1 best place to eat in Oakhurst. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/tongue2.gif http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/yes.gif

I agree. Oakhurst Online is going to host a poll for the best restaurant in the mountains. I have a feeling that The Mountain House would win. Who else would be nominated? We can only have 5 nominees, so I will pick the top 5 based upon your feedback. Nominate a restaurant here (http://oakhurstforums.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=7666078441&f=5616031741&m=729105414&r=729105414#729105414)

Their food is pretty good except for two things:
The smoked bacon tastes like plastic/imitation smoke flavoring. Been that way for years...
The ketchup bottles are dirty & refilled over and over. I nearly died from food poisoning from this after eating there in 1998. I went back for the first time since recently, and this is still being done.

I have heard a rumor that it is no longer u p for sale. That the wife bought out the husband. Remember folks, it is only a rumor.

Are they divorcing?
The last time I was there, early October, the owner(husband) was walking around the front of the building with a photographer/real estate agent? taking pics.
There is a billboard on the upper parking area advertizing the property for sale, and I've seen the place listed in the "real estate guide" around town.

With no offence toward Monkey,Ilex (SSR),Oakhurstleaf...or any other of the eating establishments in Oakhurst, When someone asks me about a place to eat, family style..I usually send them to Mountain House. I know they will get good service, good food, and good prices. Not that others don't have those. But mountain House is more a family- tourist oriented place than ...well...others. Most don't want to drive back even the 4 miles to Mountain House. And I know when they stop serving.

I believe the sign was for the 6 acres adjoining. But I'm not in MLS at the moment so can't look it up.

No offense taken. We often send people to the Mountain House for the same reason. We usually ask them what type of food they feel like having and refer accordingly. I have always been happy with my food, service and prices at the Mountain House

I'm inclined to refer others to the Mountain House too...also El Cid and Crab Cakes. It just depends on what they're interested in as far as cuisine and if they're looking for full-service. But of course...I always recommend going to Todd's Cookhouse first for great food and very family-friendly! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif Don't listen to Surfus...we are not like Hooters!
I'm glad Mountain House is no longer for sale and will stay (that's what I've heard, anyway)...I heard a few weeks ago that some restaurant group from the San Jose area was interested and close to buying, but apparently that fell through. Good.

I think it's a big year for flies. Just about every restaurant I've been in lately has them.

Was in the mountain house yesterday for lunch. Sad to say it was the worst experience I've ever had there. Salad was so over dressed it looked like soup, when I told the server I had ordered the dressing on the side, she just shrugged.
The sandwich wasn't as well prepared as usual (I say usual because I go there at least once a week & always order the same thing)
Got overcharged on another person at the tables order..
BUT, I will go back & blame this on a bad day for the restaurant, or maybe a bad time to go. ( a bit later than usual, after the lunch rush...)
I always have loved the Mountain House, and yes, there was a pesky fly there, but as Monkey says, tis the season...

Flies were a big problem there last week when I went. I think restaurants should do something about this problem and hope Mtn. House coreects the problem. Otherwise, I'll get takeout.... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/lol.gif Still gotta have my Mtn. House fix.

Maybe has something to do with the chicken coop in the back?

There were a lot of flies the last time I ate there a couple of years ago. Had a table by the window and we had tons of flies hanging around by the window and getting on our food. I thought it was gross and irritating.

Flies go hand-in-hand with the hot weather...kind of reminds me of Chino (cow country) where it's just part 'n parcel of the locale.
Even at Raley's coffee counter, flies were hovering the counter and cash register. Every restaurant has them on their windows (they're trying to get back out).
Because of our experience with flies last summer, we invested in the "Terminator"...a commercial ultra-violet fly trap/zapper. It's been helpful...along with fly sticky-strips and spraying the entries but it doesn't keep them out completely. They are attracted to dumpsters and maybe they, too, are wanting to cool down in the AC. Flies are just a plain nuisance...once the weather cools down, so should the fly population.
