I went to the Mariposa Art and Wine Festival and decided to spend the night in Mariposa. We chose the 5th St. Inn which had recently been aquired by the Comfort Inn. As we were going to bed we realized there was no remote for the tv. Annoying, but no worries. I attempted to call the front desk to inquire about the lack of remote. The phone did not work. I could not contact the front desk. I even attempted to contact 911 out of curiosity and was unseccussful. I decided to call 411 from my cell phone to reach the front desk but there was not even a pen/pencil and paper to write the number down on and since there is no Verizon tower in Mariposa, they could not text me the number. That was the last straw. I contacted the front desk to express my litany of complaints. Their response was to upgrade us for $14 more to a room with a working phone. We went down to the front desk to check out that very night and from there my husband insisted on calling the GM. The GM did not seem to concerned with the fact that providing us with a non-working phone was illegal. The GM hung up on my husband!!! I drove home to Coarsegold and promptly complained to the BBB, the Comfort Inn corporate website, and the Mariposa County sheriff's department. Very long story not so short... do not ever recommend this hotel to any friends visiting the Yosemite area.

Comfort Inn??? It sounds like the name itself is gross false advertising. Thanks for the tip. Does anyone know if the one in Oakhurst is any better???

I havent stayed at the one in Oakhurst for several years now, but when we did it was fine and to our liking, providing all the features one would expect without the need for an "upgrade"........

I have extended family up her quite a bit...some of them prefer the Oakhurst Comfort Inn over the other motels up here. Don't know anything about lodging in Mariposa.

These hotel/motel chains are franchised out...but in order to have the name "Comfort Inn", they must adhere to company standards and policies. BBB is a great place to direct a complaint...but you should definately complain to the Comfort Inn corporate headquarters/customer service. Corporate will handle the problem. In fact if there are repeated complaints and the franchisees do not rectify the situation, corporate will handle them. Extreme scenario for franchisees who do not follow contractual standards and policies, they could lose their right to do business under their name.

I managed the Comfort Inn in Oakhurst before moving up the hill to the NGI. I'm suprised that Comfort Inn would allow 2 properties in such a small town as Mariposa. There was already a Comfort Inn as you enter Mariposa at 41/49 up on the hill.

We would get unannounced inspections at least once a year and sometimes twice a year. The inspections were tough, they would even check the lightbulbs for dust and weigh the towels to make sure they were thick enough!

If the 5th Street Inn was recently taken over by Comfort Inn, is it possible that they are dealing with left over issues from the previous owners? I know it took me several years to really get the NGI running the way I wanted and I still come across maintenance issues I didn't know existed.

That doesn't explain the indifference of the GM, which is unacceptable. I'm going to ask around and see if I can find out who the new owner is and if it is who I think it may be, I will pass along your complaints. If the GM treats their guests like crap and the owner doesn't know about it, it is hard for them to fix/replace the GM.

We have done business with the Comfort Inn and they never wanted to pay. They complained that their phone system never worked - well went our techs went over there it didn't work because they had some pet chewing through the cords. They were very cheap.
