Someone else may know for certain the answer to your question, but it used to be they didnt open until Fathers Day..... Along with the opening day of fishing season at Mammoth Pools :)

We were up there 3 weeks ago and they just had opened to stock the place, I would assume they are open by now.

It always makes me smile to see them or their kids sitting in the car along the roadside in one of the few places on Beasore where cell service is available.

What a shame...I had plans to go this weekend. I wonder if they will open between now and then. Wish they had a phone to call and check

It is easy to miss the opening date sign as it is often a piece of notebook paper tacked to the door with one thumb tack!!

Jones Store is open. I was there today (Sunday, 6/28) and had a great cheeseburger. They had just opened yesterday. The temp was in the upper 70's at 1:00 pm.

My dog & I went up there today for a burger and I had forgot how good they were! Meat is double the size of the "tourist places" by the Lake. (Even thought I do like Millers) They are normally closed on Tues., but I was lucky and they were open. 1/2 hr. drive from Bass Lake, the breeze and surroundings were wonderful. Worth the drive guys.

I went up there the other day too, to try and beat the heat. It still amazes me how nice every one is when you are up in the high country. Everyone said hello and smiled and the cheese burgers were as delicous as always!!

Lois makes a great burger, but you should taste her spaghetti! It takes an Italian grandma to make it like she does!

You know I always think it's funny to think of Lois and her husband up there in the summer and then at their condo in is it Pismo?? during the winter. I feel like they fit so well up there in the mountains and can barley imagine them at the beach!!

Four of us rode up to Jones store today. Got there about 10:45 a.m. The lady there said they don't start making hamburgers until about 12:00 noon because she makes pies in the mornings. So we ordered pie instead. Two had cherry-berry and I had peach. It came ala mode with whipped cream on it. Let me tell you it was the best pie I have ever had. The pie crust was so good !!!!! So if you go and have room for the pie I suggest you try it. It was also so cool up there. Had a great time.

Are you all going Monday or Tuesday?
It looks like Monday.
Tomorrow I have to go to Castro Valley to pick up one, maybe two, new llamas. Pictures will be posted.
Tuesday I might have to go to the VA hospital in Fresno if my arm (pulled muscle I think) doesn't feel better.
Someone mentioned they're closed on Tuesdays, but they were open that Tuesday.

I mentioned they are usually closed on Tues. Vern told me they try go to Fresno to pick up supplies after their weekend. However, a friend of mine told me she went up there on a Wedns. about 11 A.M. & they were closed. Hum............. I'd bet on Monday.

Went there today for lunch... burgers & pie! (we shared a chocolate cream and an apple-peach). It was a little cool, but we sat outside on the patio anyway & it was perfect. Hope I can make it up there again before they close for the season.

He said they would be up there till it snows so the deer hunters have a place to eat...so we are going back before end of season to try the Chocolate Chip Pie ;)

I want to go before the snow hits and the store closes, but I am not getting a clear idea of which day of the week will guarantee a chance to get my burger fix!
So far, I have read posts that indicated the store was closed on a Tuesday, and a Wednesday and a Friday, too. I guess I could try a Thursday.

To be on the safe side --- you need to go this next week; because I think they close around Labor Day. So far, it looks Monday's and Thursday's are you best bet.

He said the only reason they are ever closed on a friday is if they run out of burgers....so that friday I went...that had happened and he told me today they would be there till it snows....but their sign says something like "Were are open if we are here and closed if we ain't" LOL....Best bets are weekends when there is likely to be more customers around :)

Do they not have a phone or a website so you can get info?? Since I've never been there before I have no idea where it is or what it's like so that's why I'm asking.

No phone, no website, no electricity. Everything up there works off of propane. They have a solar powered pump for their well. You just got to go.

Only takes a half hour from Bass Lake to get there....is nice and cool and beautiful up there....they are nice people.....and even if they happen to be closed to go get supplies....the drive is nice.

Hmmm. looks like a small window. So even if you can't get a burger, the pie would be great! If nothing, well, just bring a little lunch with you. Like everyone says, the drive up there is worth anything! But to have one of Lois's burgers or pie - ummmmm!

LOL What part of "They told me they would be open until it snows" don't ya'll get? hehehehe. they told me this 2 days ago so I think it is reliable information ;)
Even in peak summer they are closed sometimes but he says they seldom ever close on a friday....as I stated before...it was because they had run out of Hamburger and they had to go for supplies...
so one should be able to go up there for a burger or pie for at least a few more weeks :)

Now I can hope for a late snow!?! I am use to the store closing around Sept. 15th. I have found Tioga Pass Closed due to snow in early Sept, even though it did reopen...

Aug 31, 2009, 08:30 AM
Yep...last year ..tried to go over Tioga in Sept and it was temp closed due to a very light snow.....they don't take any chances with that pass.
anyway....as far as the store goes...he said they like to be up there for the hunters (isn't that into Oct? weather permitting). He said "Hunters buy beer and of course they like to eat" LOL.....

I was once snowed on going over Tioga in late August. The only reason it bothered me is that I was riding a bike and I certainly didn't carry chains! Yup, we shouldn't get too certain about the weather.
