Lately, my favorite thing to do on my days off has been to grab my camera and go explore those roads we drive by all the time and never really knew where they went. You know the roads of which I speak...not paved, hardly if ever maintained.

There are old logging roads all over these mountains just waiting to be explored! I am learning I can get from Mariposa to Merced without seeing hardly asphalt if at all. There are other routes other than Hwy 49 that will take you from Mariposa to Coulterville.

There is more than one old road that will take you into Yosemite.

I am always looking for new places to explore and photograph, and would love to hear about your favorite "Are you sure this is a road?" story.

The roads up by Miami Motorcycle trails going into Wawona.
Up through Summit.

I did a version of that a week or so ago! I made the left turn and had fun trying to see how close to Mariposa I could drive with out using hwy 49 instead of heading to Wawona!!

I like all the back roads leading into Yosemite.

If you picture a wagon wheel with Fish Camp being the hub, thier are alot of dirt roads leading into fishcamp.

I still wonder if there are any dirt roads leading into Mammoth...

I've explored a few on my motorcycle, like Central Camp Road, but I'm worried about getting too adventurous and getting eaten by a bear http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/anxious.gif
