My boys race BMX bikes. Last time we were there a local was telling us there is a BMX track built by volunteers at a church (somewhere near Oakhurst)? Does anyone know where the nearest ABA BMX track is? I went on the ABA website, but I am not sure which city is the closest to the Oakhurst/Coarsegold area. I also noticed there is/was a listing for a BMX shop in Oakhurst? We're hoping there are other BMXers out there

Mountain Christian Center built one on their property but I don't know anything about the usage of it. They're on Hwy. 49 in Oakhurst, well just out of town. Where True Value and the Kaiser office is.

There is a Bike shop in Oakhurst, behind McDonald's and Pizza Factory but I don't know if it's BMX.

I don't know what ABA is so I'm no help there. Not into it.

Where were some of the listings that you saw? How far are you willing to drive? Fresno, Madera are both an hour away, Merced a little farther. Mariposa nearly 1/2 an hour.

This is the CA ABA track list, there are 2 pages (ABA= American Bicycle Association)....
http://www.ababmx.com/index.php?page=default/tracks&search=California&order=&pg=1

Right now, we have a track less than 5 minutes from our house that we practice at 4 nights a week (another about 30 minutes from our house)...but we are willing to travel up to maybe an hour and a half or two for races (my husband is probably willing to travel more than I am). Right now we race twice a week...but obviously, sometimes things have to change. There are a lot of people that travel to different states to race (I'm not one of those people...but we meet them all the time).

Thanks MtnBreeze! That was the one I saw listed in the SuperPages...I am sure they will know where all the closest ABA tracks are.

Oh cool, my boys are 9, 7, 4, and 2. We just found out today that we had an offer accepted on a house in Oakhurst, we are going tomorrow to look at it for the first time. However, we have already backed out of another a few weeks ago upon first look, so we are keeping our fingers crossed on this one.

Do you mind telling us where your possible new place is? Just curious. Totally understand if you don't want to share!

Have a safe trip!!!

Great!!!...Hope this one is the one. I have a 9 year old boy and a 11 year old girl and one of our concerns about moving here is finding stuff to keep them busy in Oakhurst and having good friends. The both have great friends and schools in Hollister, but it looks like the schools here are good and I'm sure they will meet good friends. My wifes entire family is from Ventura and we have spent time in Simi... Nice place but I like Oakhurst even more. Goos luck...

I have a daughter will be 11 the end of August, starting OCI in the fall 6th grade. Would love to meet you when you get here. I also have a daughter going into 3rd grade will be 8 the end of August and a 1st grader, daughter, will be 6 tomorrow. We have discovered the Boys & Girls club this summer and my girls are loving it. We have done dance or gymnastics during the school year (just depends on their moods wether they want to dance or tumble). There is also Ahwahna groups up here, just seems like something going on all the time.

We can't wait to meet people. We have been coming up on weekends for over 3 years now. It definetly seems there is more going up here that where I'm at. And the difference is the people are alot more friendly here. Maybe due to a little slower pace not everyone is stressed out. I'm sure my kids will make good new friends here they're very personable..

Ok, just got back from Oakhurst, and we are going to back out of this one too. The MLS lists it as aprox 1500 sqft, which was on the small side for us anyways...BUT, when we got there, it was clear that it was much smaller. We measured it to be just over 1100 sqft, and with 6 of us, that just isn't going to cut it. We even kicked around the possibility of adding on, but we would only be able to gain space in two bedrooms, and they would have been long and skinny.

As for where it is, it was in broadview terrace area, on Pierce Dr. I can't remember the exact address, but I can look it up for anyone who wants to know. I guess, after talking to all the neighbors (who all seemed very nice), that house was the party house in the neighborhood, and had drug activity. We knew going in that it was going to be a gut job, but we were ok with that (my husband is in construction), I loved the yard being flat and fenced. I also loved that it was near all of the schools....so, we are disappointed today :(

Anyhow, we aren't giving up, we are pressing on, and are investigating another property right now in YLP. Waiting for some info from the realtor. I'm just praying that we find something by the time school starts!

Don't give up, doesn't sound as if you intend to. There are so many homes for sale in Coarsegold and Oakhurst right now, I am sure that you are going to find something that is just perfect for your family. Looks like you will have a little cooler weather for that house hunting too. Good luck to you!!!

I saw in the real estate magazine www.dorstandrive.com This is off road 222 (on the way to the lake) a four bedroom for $165,000.00 and it isn't a foreclosure. Good luck house hunting.

I'm so sorry! So much for truth in advertising! HATE THAT!!

Don't need exact address, I was just wondering aprox. area.

I don't know how much you know about YLP but make sure you really research it. When I lived there (grew up there) they yearly dues were going up every year and the water situation was in dire straights. Just make sure you know what's going on down there before jumping in.

Indian Lakes is a really nice area too. Near the Casino but don't know if that's a pro or a con for you. Con for me but so is the elevation! LOL!! DH and I LOVE snow so where we're at now is too low (3000')!

Keep looking, you'll find what you're looking for!

Shoot, if we were ready to sell, I'd have you come by and look at our place! We want to move higher up so eventually want to unload this house.

Theres a track at the church here on 49. But its a bit small and would not be considered a race track.. Just a "hang out with some friends" track.

Yeah, their dues just went up this year to $841 and there is also a $39 per month water ready to serve fee (in addition to actual consumption). We see the fees as a con and a pro...something we would be willing to deal with anyways. As for water, I don't know for sure, but we were told by more than one person that they seem to be better off water wise than other parts of Coarsegold. Speaking of water, we had gotten another house in YLP about a month ago. Turned out, the house needed a water meter, so we called to find out how much it was...YLP wanted $6000 for the water meter! :o

Yes, we actually found it...I see what you mean. Not sure, but maybe we'd have to be a church member to use it???

YLP is probably including pipe, plumber fees, and the meter in the price. You could find out what brand and size you need and get one at Fresno Distributing or a larger plumbing supply company in the area and pay your own plumber. See if they'd be willing to work with you. I know plumbers make good money, but $6000 is a bit much.

Unfortunately not. All the pipe was there, it was just for "their" water company to come out and put in "their" special gold plated meter. Just by comparison, Indian Lakes charges roughly $3200. I guess that's what happens in a Monopoly.

I happened to catch the Atwater BMX club/team show-off a little bit yesterday and hear the announcer say their next competition was in Oakhurst. I wasn't able to get any more info than that, but I am sure the local BMX shop could be of more help.

The casino doesn't bother me at all but I'm more in the back by the Gun Club. I can still go out at night and gaze at the stars without outside lights from the casino interferring.

ILE also doesn't have any yearly dues. As for water we only pay $72/quarter/$288/year for our water. As for snow...I don't know why but where I'm at I get snow...it's nice enough to have come, look pretty for a couple hours and then poof it's gone...no shoveling here ;) On occassion we will really get a dumping and it will last a couple days but that's not the norm. I prefer it that way because after a couple days all that dirty snow is just ugly
