I just wanted to say that we have always had a good experience at the Oakhurst Best Western Gateway to Yosemite. We have stayed there many times, in fact it is the only hotel we have stayed in there. All the rooms are nestled back, and off the 41, so no highway noise. The rooms have always been clean. They even have family suites that comfortably sleep 6. Their pools (they have both indoor and outdoor heated pools) have always been sparkling clean. I can't speak for all the rooms, but all the rooms we have ever stayed in have had a patio off of them with chairs. We were also happy to find out that all of their rooms are now designated non-smoking rooms (once we arrived to find out that the room we had was a smoking room, we have an asthmatic child, so we opted to drive into Fresno since we were technically done with our business anyways). They also have at least 1 exercise room that I noticed (although exercise is never on my to do list while on vacation:grin:) While it is not a 5 star resort, we have always been comfy there, the grounds and rooms are very nicely maintained!

My in laws have stayed at the Best Western a couple of times when they come to visit from Southern CA and we have used the outdoor pool - very nice and they like the place a lot.

Ditto on the Best Western - stayed there many a moon while the wife and I were building a cabin up the hill...actually...waaaayyyy up the hill.

Dog friendly which helps when you have a 70 Aussie Shepherd for a shadow.

Tip of the day - ask for rooms "at the top of the hill" - you are well away from any highway noise - and you get to see squirrels and deer!

The secret hot tub is nice too!!!!

Cheers on the Best Western.

Before we lived here, this was our choice of stay especially with small kids. Besides the pools...there's plenty of room for the kids to run and play with the Inn's own playground and grassy area. The private balconies and patios. More than one pool...and an indoor one at that. The grounds there are something you just can't get at most budget friendly motels. How boring it is to step out your motel room's door to your car....having nothing but a parking lot for the outdoors. The Best Western here is definately special...if I were visiting, I'd stay there again.

I stopped in there for a beer the other night after work. I didn't eat, but I saw the new menu. It looked pretty good, and the prices were reasonable. Has anybody tried it yet?

They do have a restaurant there. I tried to get lunch there the other day but they only serve dinner rolleyes:

I wish that us locals could use their indoor pool...that would be a great place to continue with the Water Aerobics class in the Winter time when I know I become more couch-potatoish :o

I've been to the restaurant a couple of times for lunch (last time was about a month and a half ago). Liked the food, not "special", but good, not a real big menu, prices were reasonable. They sure weren't busy either time, never more than 3 other tables. Service really needs to improve. I don't remember what day of the week I was there either time, but seems to me it was like a Sunday, definitely was for lunch though. (as you get older, the memory fails at times, LOL)

When I called this last Wednesday I was told they were only open for dinner so maybe on the weekends they have different hours...not sure. Ended up going to Katies instead.

Could just be they have reduced their hours too since I was last there, due to lack of business.

I was in there for dinner recently. I had the snapper Veracruz. It was very good, and served with an unusual, but delicious chile relleno. I had a huge glass of beer from their tap selections. Chef Dana and his crew are serving good food there now. The place is clean and pretty. The bar is nice, with a large selection of beer wine and spirits. My wife and I had a great evening and the prices are good. The place is worth giving another try.
