Surfus,
Noticed your countdown ticker on your posts this morning! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cool4.gif Except that the BEARS are in the playoffs and am hoping get deep into contention for the BIG game...January is WORST time of year for this fan! Can only look forward to NASCAR and I sooooooooooo am. Thanks for sharing the anticipation! So many changes this year - All I KNOW for sure with the absence of my #2 right now is that I'll be rooting for ANYBODY who passes Gordon! Looking forward to seeing what Waltrip does with his new ride so maybe we'll be on the same team this year, you and I.
I edited this post to add a space to the title for formatting reasons on the forums. A side to side scroll bar was showing up with the long title. -Sandman

Hey Sheila, This year will sure be different without Rusty. I miss him already. The season can't start soon enough for me. I miss my Sunday race days! We are thinking about either going to Vegas (for my bday in March) or Fontana. I haven't been able to go to a race in a couple of years so I am going through withdrawls - I gotta see my Jr!!! Maybe we can do a caravan to Vegas or Fontana??? We can go and be a part of the I HATE GORDON fanclub!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rofl5.gif

Sounds good to me! Mine is the 6th, when is yours?? I know Tocools is the same day as mine so a March party should be in the works! It is my BIG 40 this year so if we don't go the race, we are going to Morro Bay. But when we get back, a OF get together would be great!

My bday is the 27th...and gotta laugh - Rima turning 30, Nascar8 turning 40 and I'll be holding off the BIG 5-0 for a couple more bdays...

No offense to drag strip fans intended but to me drag racing is 10 second ***. Isn't it better when it lasts, and lasts???? And the unexpected can happen at ANY moment?

Waltrip And Jasper Team Up
President and CEO of Michael Waltrip Racing, Inc., Michael Waltrip and President of JASPER, Doug Bawel, announced today they have formed Waltrip-Jasper Racing Company, LLC. Waltrip-Jasper Racing will field the #55 NAPA AUTO PARTS NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Dodge in 2006, driven by Waltrip. Bawel has been in racing for over 15 years, previously as an owner of Penske-Jasper Racing Companyâs #77 Kodak Dodge. Bawel will serve on the Board of Directors and will be active in business management and sanctioning body relationships for the new company.
âI have been in the sport as a driver for 22 years and the logical progression for me was ownership at the highest level, the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series,â Waltrip said. âThis is such a big step, that I wanted to partner with someone who has intimate knowledge about ownership at this level. Doug Bawel and I have been friends for a number of years and I have always respected the way he handled himself in the garage and with NASCAR.â
âI learned quickly that Michael is a goal oriented person,â Bawel stated. âWhen we began talking about the possibilities of teaming up, he started dialing the phone and making things happen immediately. He is a talented driver and a proven NASCAR Busch Series car owner, but most importantly as he moves into NASCARâs premier series, he is a man with a vision that likes to take ideas from paper to reality. I am delighted to lend my experience and management support to Waltrip-Jasper Racing.â
Waltrip-Jasper Racing has contracted Bill Davis Racing to be the source of cars, engines and personnel.
Additionally, Waltrip-Jasper Racing has created their own team of people. The foundation of Waltrip-Jasper Racing is sculpted with experienced people vested in NASCAR. Ty Norris, former EVP of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. will serve as the general manager overseeing the operation. Waltripâs long-time confidant, Bobby Kennedy will serve as the Competition Director and Larry Carter, a veteran crew chief, has also been contracted by Waltrip-Jasper Racing to be a part of the team.
âI know how intense this business is and I am prepared for the challenge,â Waltrip said. âI am committed to being successful as an owner and I think the industry will recognize that when they see the caliber of personnel and sponsors I am bringing into this organization. But, there are a lot of days when I anticipate I will need my sense of humor, so I believe I will keep it.â

Johnson's qualifying run disqualified MORE Burton and Gordon cars also being looked at: on Speed Channel's Victory Lane show, Bob Dilner reported that #48-Jimmie Johnson's Daytona 500 qualifying run has been disqualified due to an illegal traction control adjuster on the right rear of the car. Johnson had qualified 5th on Sunday with a speed of 188.762mph and the rear tires were rubbing and smoking during his run. So Johnson will not have his speed to fall back on if he has a bad run in the Gatorade Duel race on Thursday, but since he is in the top-35 2005 owners points, he is guaranteed a spot in the Daytona 500. Could be a fine and/or points penalty coming.
AND Jimmie Johnson qualified 5th on Sunday in Daytona 500 time trial runs. He has been disqualified. Johnson had an illegal off-set track bar adjuster in the right rear of that car. If you remember during his time trial run, the #48 was smoking out on the racetrack in the left rear. With this illegal adjuster, it boosted up the back glass and actually made the left rear rub a little bit so that time has been disallowed by NASCAR. There are a bunch of other issues in the garage area. In fact, some issues with the #31 team of Jeff Burton. That's right. Your Daytona 500 polesitter. Those issues have to do with the engine, and that's being hotly discussed in the garage area right now. In the media center after the Budweiser Shootout, NASCAR said it is researching several things from post-500 qualifying tech, including Burton's car as well as the #24 car of Jeff Gordon.(FoxSports), see qualifying results on my Daytona 500 Qualifying/Grid page.(2-12-2006)
Side note
The napa 55 car was slow in the shoot out but good O mike worked it to the front. until some dumb a$$ started a wreck in the last few laps and the 55 was to slow for a 3 lap shoot out.

I'm soooooooo disgusted!! Stewart and Kenseth in my opinion should each hafta sit out two races - 1 for the getcha and 1 for the getcha back. The only time I was actually happy and enjoying the race was when Mark Martin was leading and that was way toooooooo short-lived. The rest of the race was pure disappointing to me. Though Jr lifted my heart a little bit...but too little too late. Please don't tell me this is what this season will be like for me without Rusty....
