FREE PANCAKES! NO STRINGS ATTACHED!
On February 28, 2006 from 7 AM to 2 PM IHOPs across the country will celebrate National Pancake Day (also known as Shrove Tuesday) by offering our guests a free short stack of pancakes*. This is going to be our biggest one day celebration in our history.

National Pancake Day has a rich history that stretches back centuries and has always been a time of celebration. National Pancake Day always falls on Fat Tuesday and this year it will be a celebration at IHOP.

So gather your friends, family and neighbors and come to your local IHOP and enjoy a short stack of pancakes on us. All we ask is that you consider making a donation to a great charity like First Book or other local, worthy cause. Where else would you celebrate National Pancake Day than IHOP? See you there.

* Limit one free short stack per guest. Valid for dine-in only, no to go orders. Not valid with any other offer, special, coupon, or discount. Valid at participating restaurants only, while supplies last.

That's ONLY if you are going to Fresno for another reason - otherwise your free "short stack" will end up costing about $15 for the gas money to get there and back. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

I like pancakes with beans on top. Not chili beans or pork 'n' beans or even baked beans. I make them with a ham hock or leftover ham bone, a few onions and some garlic, dried (seeds removed) Anaheim chili peppers (take them out after they simmer and soften and scrape the insides) and salt. They simmer till tender and the juice thickens somewhat. Ladle over a stack of tender pancakes and mmmmmmm.

Cat, no offense or anything but that sounds God awful! The beans part sounds good but I can't picture on top of pancakes. You're kidding, right? http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif nope, not kidding! i have liked that since i was a little kid -- not sure who started it but i know other people in the family liked it, too. i don't put syrup or jam or anything like that on the pancakes. As a teen in Gilroy, I remember a Denny's offering beans over pancakes for breakfast.

when you think about it, pancakes aren't all that far removed from indian fry bread or tortillas or italian sciaccia (yeast version of fry bread cooked in olive oil) .. just a bit more tender and maybe somewhat sweeter, depending on how much sugar (if any) a recipe calls for.

people don't mind bacon, sausage or ham on their pancakes ... beans cooked with ham chunks is similar.

I admit it does sound odd, though. I've consumed a lot of strange food combinations. We had a fun thread about that last year.

When I was in Hawaii I fell in love with Macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup...
